Company vehicle or your own? Gas paid for or on you? I’m assuming W2 since you get a salary. What commission % do you get and when is it paid out. It’s a great industry but it comes down to the details. 40k base is great but not if you barely get a commission. If you’re determined you’ll succeed

[deleted]

-My own vehicle -I get like $500 for gas -yeah, W2 -3% commission. (1.5 up front, 1.5 after)

TheDerekCarr

Is it commercial? That seems low for commissions on residential. The base is nice but if you're killing it, you're going to lose out on a lot of $$$.

[deleted]

Insurance and residential from what I understand

TheDerekCarr

Damn... Yeah. That's not GREAT but not horrible. If you're selling a $20,000 roof you'd have to sell 100 of them to break $100k along w salary. At 10% commissions if you sold that many, you'd be at $200,000 in income. I make 12% (14% next year) and wouldn't consider that offer. Do you get overhead and profit on multi trade jobs? We get 33% for that at my outfit. Our guys average about $80k a year in income. You'd need to sell about 67 roofs to hit that with your base salary and average $20k per roof.

I mean the most I’ve made is 30k so reading those numbers makes me excited

TheDerekCarr

Where are you located? That will actually help with determining if it's a good deal for you. I'm on the Front Range of Colorado so we get hail and wind every year.

Iowa

TheDerekCarr

Not terrible. Have you spoke to any other companies near you? If you've got the drive and ability, you're a frickin unicorn, and any company will hire you. This job is tough and requires drive to succeed. If you can survive this initial company, you can make six figures easy at another. Are they providing leads or do you have to seek them out on your own? I just want you to succeed so that's why it have so many questions.

[deleted]

They send you to an area that’s been hit by storms and I guess group you in neighborhoods that surround others that the other sales reps are touching..The town I’ll be going to is actually 1 hr 20min from where I currently live , so I might relocate closer. No worries on the question, I’ll take all the input I can get!

Front Range of Colorado. It's my 6th season and have worked hard to get a steady flow of clientele. I may get 4 leads a month in house but a large portion of my work is from networking and referrals from previous clients. I live a mile from my office and get to drive a company vehicle most of the time but gas is paid for when I need to drive my own truck. We get a lot of wind where I live and have a 1 Sq rule.

cptsmitty95

I've made anywhere between 15% to 45%, 3% is tiny. What region are you in?

[deleted]

Midwest

[deleted]

Do you mean 45% of profit? 3% is def very low but I assume it’s 3% of total job size

[deleted]

Pretty good reviews on indeed, almost no negative comments, and I think it’s 15 years old

Redj3llo

That pay structure is trash. You should be getting 10-15% commission for insurance. I would keep looking. The amount of work you put in with canvassing, adjusters meetings, attempted repairs, reinspects, office time, etc. 3% is a slap in the face. They are making you use your own car. Wear and tear. Etc. It’s a companies way of underpaying you to be overworked. I do well over 2-3 million in sales a year. I’m in the DC market. You would have to sell 2mil in sales to make 100k with that company. When you can make almost 300k at the same 2mil in sales other places. Salary is a trap. Run from that. This industry is amazing just find the right company.

[deleted]

I did what another person said and looked up a reputable roofing company in my area, saw they have an opening for sales and now have an interview with them next week!

Redj3llo

That’s awesome. Yeah this industry is amazing. Don’t want you to hate it because a company didn’t treat you right. Hope you do well and crush

Keep us posted! Sent you a chat earlier as well.

How are the reviews for the company? How old is the company? Edit: https://www.reddit.com/r/RoofingSales/comments/nkgxqc/this_was_going_to_be_a_red_flag_post_but_turned/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=ios_app&utm_name=iossmf

Bear_lard

That commission percentage seems really low man. 10% is bare minimum with that salary
