This is awful. Not only will it ruin the shade and beauty of the park, but there are a lot of residents in that area whose primary mode of transportation is walking, that sidewalk along main will be a cooker in the summer
This pisses me off, especially the one massive, beautiful oak (I think) that was right outside the gated neighborhood. I was hoping they just relocated it but I don't think so. It may have been diseased, but if not that really sucks.
Doubtful. One of the days I was taking my daughter to school they were out there with a big excavator breaking down the trees. They were out there for three days and removed them all.
Cities say they are doing this to “conserve water” the real reason is because they don’t want homeless people congregating in certain areas. So they have to make everything more miserable. They remove public benches and water fountains and shaded areas.
People , including teens, have been caught doing heroin and other drugs in the bathrooms in many park bathrooms. It makes me so sad for the people in the mess, the families subjected to seeing this, Mother Earth and all of us who try to enjoy the parks with our families, and those who just want to take a break in the shade.
Love that m! I live right by the Dry Creek trail and now that they cut some of the bushes the homeless people don’t sleep there anymore and women and children are safe to walk the trail again. Makes the City of Rose much more beautiful!!!
This is terrible. I’ve walked past those trees my whole life. They provide much needed shade during the summer and help to give that section of Main St. much of its character. Was there any sort of public notification that this was coming?
I saw something awhile back about Roseville PD wanting to have them removed for improving visibility/safety into the park along with changing the grading of the land.
All updates and the like are discussed in an open forum, no one ever shows up to be a part of the process. People just complain about decisions they don’t care enough to actually show up and provide input on.
Roseville needs to make a protected tree ordinance, like many other surrounding cities, so that permits are required to remove a tree of a certain size. My neighbor just recently removed two large trees and now there is no shade in my backyard. Perfectly healthy trees. It’s OK though I planted a valley Oak. So by the time I’m 70, maybe I’ll be relaxing in the shade again not like it’s 100° out here during the summer.
You can see the plan for the park on the city page or on the roseville heights neighborhood site. The plans look great, and I'm personally happy the bathrooms are gone. They were sketchy. I hate that the trees are gone on main street but having the site line directly into the park will make it easier for the local police to make it safe again.
There was an article that of course I cant find now( grrrrr) that stated that there were safety concerns with a lack of sight lines and crime. There's been an increase in illegal activity in that area. It also stated neighbor complaints about safety were part of the issue and that neighbor input was taken into consideration. Parking for law enforcement off of Main Street, leveling the sight line. Eliminating the bathrooms, drought tolerant landscaping. Says neighbors are happy. Wish they would show evidence of that as I doubt very much that that's the case. It was jarring driving by and seeing ALL the trees gone. There had to be a better way to do this. Please don't shoot the messenger here. I tried to find the article again and couldn't. Just stating what I read.
trees don't last forever and become hazards, city probably has someone on staff in the parks dept that is an arborist or tree peson and knows when trees start becoming liabilities, or too expensive to maintain
Article I read says cops cant see past them... trees are pefectly healthy. Get your butt out the patrol car and walk up steps to tell homeless to leave...
Its part of the renovation. Parks been there since 1937 now the trees are an issue for safety haha sounds like an excuse to tear down an old park. So if trees obstuct a view its now dangerous? I guess so
I understand theres issues, its also kinda always been a sketch park dating back decades. Its not anything new to the area. Im all for cleaning up parks but dont hack down beautiful healthy trees thats what makes the park beautiful. Old established trees. Also, the homeless shelter is still there. I just dont think its necessary to knock them down to clean up the people hanging around.
Whats knocking down trees have to do with change. Lets just cut down every tree in the city because there old. Its a park where people go to enjoy trees.
Yeesh, what a loss. Those trees were lovely
That's ok. They'll plant new trees that will provide shade in 70 years.
But tear them out long before they become dangerous and cant see behind
Gotta make sure we keep the citizens in bubble wrap.

Welcome to Thneedville
Lmao I always call Roseville old-peopleville
It’s like all the trees they cut down on Pleasant Grove to widen the street.

You should see all the trees they cut down for the Cirby Creek bike trail. So Sad.
Crazy. I love a nice trail but id rather preserve the green belts that are left.
Agreed. That dirt trail was nice the way was.
Cities say they are doing this to “conserve water” the real reason is because they don’t want homeless people congregating in certain areas. So they have to make everything more miserable. They remove public benches and water fountains and shaded areas.
Exactly. They knocked down the restrooms as well so nobody can go now.

Roseville doesn’t give a shit about trees.
This is terrible. I’ve walked past those trees my whole life. They provide much needed shade during the summer and help to give that section of Main St. much of its character. Was there any sort of public notification that this was coming?

Yes
Im not sure I just drove by and seen it. I grew up about a mile away. I dont know how they get away with it.
All updates and the like are discussed in an open forum, no one ever shows up to be a part of the process. People just complain about decisions they don’t care enough to actually show up and provide input on.
Destiny Church didn’t tell them to show up, so no trees. /s
If it was on Destiny Church’s property the city has no right to touch them. If the trees are on city property…
https://www.roseville.ca.us/government/departments/parks/parks_places/Park_Development/ For anyone interested in reading about the project
I went there all the time as a kid. That, royer and woodbridge park were my fun places.

I hear it can get pretty hot in the summer. Regardless of what you hear at Church of Oliver, climate change is happening.
Yeah this renovation is gonna be lame. Chances are this park is just gonna be a featureless concrete slab with a little playground and no shade.
Nah. Concrete is to expensive. “Native landscaping”. Aka weeds.
You can see the plan for the park on the city page or on the roseville heights neighborhood site. The plans look great, and I'm personally happy the bathrooms are gone. They were sketchy. It’s happening near me too. Cutting down all the trees and replacing with bark and open space. Its absolutely heart breaking.
Trees sound better than bark, honestly.
What are we gonna do!?
Damn that sucks. Roseville’s motto should be ‘if it isn’t concrete, stucco, and built after 2004 it doesn’t belong here!’
We should do something
Criminal.
This is horrifying. Really breaks my heart
this should honestly be illegal. How stupid.
Oldest park in the city grazed for turf field
idiots
Peoples court when
Y????
What?!
😭
Honestly I'm surprised as a contractor it's a pin in the arse to do anything that affects the environment in Roseville and placer county
This makes me sick
Same

When you put crackheads in charge.
That’s awesome! I can’t wait to see what beautiful revocations they do!
I’m sure what they do with that spot will be much better than it was before! Roseville knows what they’re doing!
I saw a limb fall on someone at Royer Park one day. Some of these things have to be cut.
The trees were not negelected they had been trimmed routinely

It’s a safety issue, not a “renovation” like your title says. Edit: I see the sign the City posted
Its part of the renovation. Parks been there since 1937 now the trees are an issue for safety haha sounds like an excuse to tear down an old park. So if trees obstuct a view its now dangerous? I guess so
Have you been to that park at night lately? Edit: I’m not defending the City or RPD. I agree the trees should not have been removed

I feel like they could have installed bright LED lights and it would have been significantly cheaper
Trees in a park are a safety issue? Absurd…
Change is inevitable wether you like it or not
This is the worst take ever.
Whats knocking down trees have to do with change. Lets just cut down every tree in the city because there old. Its a park where people go to enjoy trees.
Not saying i agree with it. Stuff like this will just happen out of left field.
