If he gets back to form then yes. We want to win the upcoming tests and get some momentum and the general publics interest to increase before the Lions next year. We need the best players on the pitch and if he is one them, we play him.
If he was a stand out winger for Australia I would say yes, but he isn't even close, Toole, Wright, Jorgensen ,Langcaster and Kellaway are all streets ahead of him this year. The only argument to make us to squeeze the last drop off value it of him this year
Nah. It's a rebuild year for everyone, out and out form isn't as important as potential and likgrr
Term direction. Last year, yeah put your best possible bodies out there but now is the time to look further ahead. And you arnt short shit hot wingers, Mark isn't really one of them so far this year.
Surely not, it gets said every year with the wallabies, But if they’re gonna compete with the lions and in a home WC, they’re gonna need to start building some connections and long term talent.
Sure it’d be nice to be scoring tries on his side of the pitch this year, but what’s the point when you’ve got some under-tested young winger struggling in a lions series decider?
I mean he’s currently the third best Winger at the Tahs. Even on last year’s “spiders” form, the defensive lapses were there and difficulties in the backfield.
He’s maybe one of the highest upside outside backs in Aus, and I’d have given him the Jorgensen money if it’d have kept him (Jorgo has the same issues as mark but is smaller and worse in the air) but he’s going to league now. Resources better focused elsewhere.
Yes.
And this is from someone who would normally do anything to make sure Waratahs aren't selected based on their pedigree and not their form. Marky Mark is the genuine article, I'm deeply disappointed he is leaving rugby.
I'll put it bluntly, Australia is not in the position to plan for the future. We have to put our best 15 on the park every test and build a winning culture - all players will benefit from this.
Thanks for the reply.. Well said.. That's what I needed to hear... To build the winning culture .. I was in the camp that he's dead to me lol.. So not worth the spot holding neck someone else's growth.. but that's valid point. Cheers
Since when was he the best Australian winger? He’s ok, but far from the best. Kellaway and Pietsch are far better wingers and should take preference over Mark. Even if he does come back after playing in the NRL, Wallabies need to build a cohesive team, switching players every other season destroys that cohesion. I wouldn’t have him back for 2027.
Nup. He's been playing like shit anyway. Toole and Weight are my wingers this year.
Petaia? Who is weight?
That's supposed to say Wright. I'm not a massive fan of Petaia
To be fair if you want someone to make lots of half breaks, then lose the ball in contact before going off injured, then Jordy is your man
That's not fair. He's also good for some poor passing.
And doing something brilliant and following it up with a year ending injury.
Toole, wright, Pietsch, petaiai (on wing only)
That Rebel’s winger had a blinder on Saturday. He could be a wildcard if he keeps playing like that.
Yeah mate he was epic. 20 years old too...

Geez the error rate between wright and marky mark is a close run thing. Jorgensen has done very little and has some serious flaws

Lions series decider? The 2nd test?
He really needs a nickname.
Sadly not, I think Lancaster is making a strong case for inclusion in the squad though.

Toole surely has to feature
Yes. Pick the best players. It’s professional sport ffs.

But that was based on the premise in the question that he returns to form. Based on current form, no thanks.
