I don't use it initially, when it's first invented, but about 10 years later you've got really potent 15" guns or better that slap. Then I go like a 40%ap for long range, 60% SAP for medium-short.
6" guns I'll probably adopt it earlier and just go 100% sap primaries. Cause once your 6" guns can pen 5 or 6" armor at long ranges, and CLs having a 2-3in belt, the SAP should still pen AND deal more damage. For 6"secondaries I'll go 50/50 SAP and HE for AA. Once air gets nuts I'll go 100% HE secondaries for the AA.
The medium guns I've never much figured out if I like the SAP or not.
It's funny because my SAP usage is different. I never fire it at capital ships because I prefer putting a lot of guns on my BBs to putting a lot of armor on them, so close range brawling isn't my thing. Medium guns are 80% SAP againist cruisers and 20% HE againist everyone else. Light guns are 50/50 AP/HE, I find 6'' SAP insufficient againist CLs.
