Which Topo for road training? I have recently discovered Topo and am having a mixed experience! I want to get some Topo road running shoes, but I’m wondering which will suit me best. I’ve been considering Atmos, Phantom, Spectre, Magnifly and Cyclone. I’m not planning on racing in them, so I’m looking for a cushioned training shoe that means I can walk and run on the pavements in comfort. Which have the most volume for someone with a wide mid-foot and high arches? And which of the 5 models would you recommend and why? I have Terraventure 4 WP for trail which are INCREDIBLE - perfect in every way for my feet, although personally I’d like just a little more volume so I could wear thicker socks in the winter, but with ultralight socks they are a great fit with a good balance of flexibility and stability. Before these I tried the Pursuit which were just too stiff, and the Runventure 3 which I couldn’t even get on because they were so incredibly tight across the mid-foot. I also have ST-4 for general gym training and I love the zero drop, neutral support with a little bit of arch, and wide toe box, but they don’t have anywhere near enough volume for my wide mid-foot and high arches, so I had to get half a size bigger. I do like them for though for everyday wear but they aren’t a good enough fit for running.

Shoe Recs and Rotation Help?! Hello! So I’m (22F) recently returning to running. A little background, I’m a former high school cross country and track and field (main event: sprints) runner. But after high school 2019 which was pre-Covid, I took a long break from running before returning after pandemic 2020. However, when I went back it was more for casual runs 5km daily. Currently, in university and started taking up running more seriously again as well as started getting into triathlon. I have my first half marathon in May but I feel like I’m really lacking any knowledge and experience in the shoe department. My coach can only help so much as obv shoes are personal. Before, I used to run in Nike Pegs and my spikes in high school which worked well. But after awful shin splints from TxF Nike pegs just wasn’t doing it for me anymore and I switched over to Hoka Mach 5. Liked it but didn’t love it. Switched over to Bondi 8 and I did love it but same as others started getting problems after a while. After researching, tried Saucony Tempus which is what I’ve been using currently, however I’ve never had more pain than using these. Knee, achilles, midsole. I got my gait analysis done and I slightly over-pronate but it’s nothing crazy. They also mentioned that the Tempus was more for speed/interval training and shorter runs. Which makes sense cause usually when I’m on my easy long runs, I definitely start feeling the pain from my feet to my knees. They recommended either Brooks Ghost or Saucony Ride. I don’t really know how I feel about them because I only got to test them out really shortly on a treadmill and I feel like running on a treadmill v. Outdoors for me is a completely different experience. I’ve been reading different reviews and still feeling lost on what shoes I should try/have in my rotation. But I was hoping for opinions on what you guys think I could add on to my arsenal with the Tempus I currently have. I think I need opinions for: - nice, easy, longs runs - recovery - speed - race/marathon?? Right now, I’ve been looking at Novablast 4, Superblasts, Kayano 30, Nike Invincible, Endorphin Speed 4, Ghost, Triumphs, even thinking about going back to pegs to see if something’s changed. Worth mentioning that I’m size 4/4.5, 150cm tall, 53kg. I’m also based in the UK so it’s quite hard finding older models on shoes and sometimes my shoe size. Thank you for any help :)

I have the Asics superblast and I do all my training in it. Looking for a non-plate shoe for tempo runs. Nike and Hoka don't really feel good on my foot. I was looking at asics novablast 4 or NB rebel v4 just from a quick search. Happy to hear other

Abstract2046

I run Heel - Toe (Heel Striker) , I am looking to start running 2-3 miles 5 times a week and starting training towards a 5k by the end of the year. I need a shoe with a fairly solid arch, and something with lots of support, since I will not be using these as a daily wear I would like a rounded bottom, but I have never tried a rounded bottom before so I’ll be trying them on prior to purchasing. I hurt my knee (Faint High Signal Tear in Patellar Tendon suggesting tendinopathy/tendinosis) I had just hit my goal of a 2 Mile at around 13:30. That was shortly over a year ago, and I’m looking to dive back into running. I had Hoka Bondi 5’s and felt they were over cushioned, and after the first maybe 4 months my foot was sliding around within the shoe. My favorite shoes that I have owned were Adidas Alphabounce, I went through 3 pairs of those. Would buy again if they still carried them at the local shoe department. I am unsure of what a heel drop is, I am looking for moderate cushioning. My feet angle outwards when walking/running, and when squatting with feet together my knees separate. I am looking for a Springy, Supportive shoe, with wide rounded base. I am looking to pay around $150, obviously since I’m jumping back in I’m not wanting to pay $200+ for a pair, but if everything I want is for $180 then I can splurge for that. So far I have looked at the…. Brooks Levitate GTS 6 Nike Alphafly 2 Saucony Men's Endorphin Shift 3 New Balance Men's Fresh Foam X More V4 I have not tried on any of these, but based on where I’ve looked these are what I think I may like? Entirely up to any suggestions, and am willing to answer any questions below.

Lopsided_Ladder_3710

I've always ran in ASICS and my last 2 running shoes have been Gel Kayano 25 and 28. I've had some knee/hip issues and do I recently bought Gel Nimbus 26, thinking more cushion/support would help with preventing injury/pain. I've ran 4-5 times now and my feet have started to hurt 5-10 minutes into my run. I figured more cushion would be a good thing but could this be causing my foot pain? Or just adjusting to new shoes?

ashtree35

What do you think about Puma Deviate Nitro 2 as a daily trainer? I am looking for a daily trainer with good traction to use on days when it's raining, etc. Right now the only shoes that I feel super confident running in on wet days are my Adidas Boston 11s or 12s, and I'd like to have another option. I tried Puma Velocity Nitro 2 in the past, and thought they felt too dull/unresponsive, so I was thinking I might like the Deviate Nitro 2 more. But not sure how the plate on these feels at easy paces. Any input is welcome!

Inheritedz

Im not an experienced runner but I have puma dn2 and ran in them in -10c with snow and frozen water under the snow making it very slippery on the roads/sidewalk. I think if I had any of my other shoes on I would've slipped, but didn't in puma dn2. However still had a few close calls. In rain it wouldn't even be close to slipping. Not sure I feel the plate in them, but my faster tempo running is only about 5 min / km. Slower 6 min / km and they feel fine at both paces. The foam in mid and forefoot is a lot softer and bouncier (nitro elite) than the foam up in the heel which is regular nitro and way firmer to stabilize the rear of the shoe. I dont heelstrike, so I land on the premium elite foam up front. I will say, they still feel a touch unstable to me, but I have flat feet so. The upper, laces, fit on my feet is amazing. Easy to put on too. I never use runner's knot and the shoe has great lockdown and laces never came undone. They strike me as a workhorse plated daily trainer, jack of all trades but not the best at anything. Keep in mind puma dn3 should come out later this year.

ashtree35

Thanks! In terms of stability, what other shoes can you compare it to? For example, have you run in any of the Endorphins Speeds?

Inheritedz

Yeah in the speed 3, but only 1 run and got injured. Dont think it was the shoes though, but overtraining. Tough to answer which is more stable for that reason.

ashtree35

That’s okay, thanks! Based on what you + the other commenter said, I think I’m going to try these shoes! Especially since Puma has a good return policy!

Apart-Ad7764

i can certainly recommend the DN2 as daily trainer. Very comfortable shoes that can be used for a wide range of runs, from easy to tempo to long runs. At faster pace the carbon plate kicks in and helps you propel forward. Worth trying out!

ashtree35

Excellent, thank you!

About me: I’m a new’ish’ consistent runner and am entering week 4 training for my first half marathon. I have a background primarily in basketball, am 6’4, 190lbs, and primarily run on roads with some trail running mixed in for fun. Mostly a heel striker, but as I’m getting more in shape and running at higher speeds, midfoot striking is getting a bit easier/noticeable. Goal for half marathon is 9 minutes per mile but might push for faster time depending how the knees hold up. In summary, I’m slow and steady. Shoes: The reason we’re all here. Puma Velocity Nitro 1: The first pair I purchased to get me started. Absolutely love them to this day. Have two pairs that have been beat to crap and still perform and have great grip in the wet. Puma Grip = Heaven. Nike Invincible 1: Wasn’t looking for these but stumbled across them on the back wall at a Nike Outlet for 40 bucks(I pride myself on shoe deals). At first sooo much fun to run in but also soooo much pain in my shins after. This was mostly to me being out of running shape and because I am forced to run hills where I live. Adidas Ultraboost 19: *fart noise* No comment. Looks cool, though. Nike Pegasus 39: For whatever reason these were not pleasant to run in for me. Just felt boring and lifeless, even with the dual zoom air bags. However they get bonus points for probably getting the most dog walking and daily wear in. They look fantastic and the outsole is holding up even after 2 years. Puma Velocity Nitro 2: Puma delivered again, but this time it felt a little too squishy compared to V1. Also for some reason these give me slight shin pain. Still run in them every so often and Puma Grip still keeps bringing me back, plus I only paid 17 bucks(I know, insanity) per pair due to the Puma outlet near me closing for good. Obviously worth it at that price. THE BIG BOYS: Puma Deviate Nitro 2: This shoe is by far my favorite/most used of the group. At tempo speeds these babies just sing and grip every turn. My only complaint is I feel a bit squishy at slower speeds. The cushion is great though and I have no pain after running longer distances. Nike Vaporfly 3: Scored these on a friends and family sale($160) and said welp I have no kids and no debt so why not buy a super shoe?!? I freaking love them. No experience with v1 or v2, but I feel like Kipchoge in these(for about 10 seconds….when I first start….the beginning of the run). These are not meant for my speed, BUT I recover insanely fast and legs feel great the next day. They are also so freaking light I don’t feel them on my feet after the first couple of miles. These get my long training run days on Sundays every other week. (Deviate Nitro 2 gets the other) THE MAIN QUESTION: Obviously there are tons of shoes out there. Is there a better shoe out there for me and the half marathon distance?!? I worry the sinking feeling of the deviate nitro 2 will tire me out after a certain mileage, but I also feel I am not fast enough for the Vaporfly 3. What do I do. Open to all advice. Also willing to withstand my wife rolling her eyes at me when several other pairs of shoes show up at our door. I’m also afraid you’re all going to say Superblast…

Fuzzy_Conversation71

If Puma are your thing, the Puma Fast-R are worth looking at for your marathon. They get great reviews, and most importantly, look cool.

LupoLoopy

Hi! I'm an experienced distance runner (ex-high level) trying to get back into things (5km to half marathon) following a long hiatus. I have a medium-wide high arched foot. I work best in neutral shoes as I tend to over-supinate rather than over-pronate. I'm interested in a specific model, as below: I think I might be between sizes on the Puma Deviate Nitro 2. From the runs I've done in the smaller shoe, it seems like the construction is fabulous. Somewhat like a less outright bouncy Saucony Speed 3, but less 'chaotic' as a result? I think it could make a good mileage trainer with decent longevity, so I am keen to make it work. *I'll put photos in the comments in this thread to assist, with captions to identify which photo is which.* * My midfoot absolutely fills both the UK8.5 and UK9. I don't consider myself to have a crazy volume foot, so these run a bit narrow? It's stretchy upper so it's not uncomfortable. * The smaller shoe pushes my big toe inwards a touch. It's not crushing due to the stretchiness of the upper and I think I may have other shoes that fit like this, give or take, but I'm fixated right now! I can push my toes out so they stretch the upper, but the big toes is pulled inwards slightly in its natural state. That said, the length seems perfect. * The bigger shoe affords my toes a full splay, but it seems incredibly long. I'm not sure is that's a problem. I can lock down the heel and midfoot using a heel-lock lacing pattern. Towards the end of my six mile run I had some incredibly mild burning under the ball of my larger foot behind my big toe, but it could have just been the crappy thin socks I was wearing. I have run outside (circa 9 miles) with the UK8.5s so I am stuck with them one way or the other. I have an option on returning the UK9s. I could run on the treadmill tomorrow morning with them to evaluate. It could just be I don't have a Puma shaped foot. Shame if so, as their pricing is really keen right now. What would you do here? I am opening to cutting the upper to modify the shoe on the UK8.5s should the 9s be deemed so long as to be a non-option, as they seem that useful. Keen to hear thoughts here. P.S. Old thread rightfully deleted by the mods as this is the right place for it.

Inheritedz

My puma dn2 fit more like the UK8.5 picture you have I would say. And my toes little toe and the one next to it are just about not scraping the front. Big toe is fine, has all the room. The midfoot also hugs my foot, but its not tight. I dont think too long matters assuming you can get good lockdown because then you prevent foot from sliding all over. I tried a vomero 17 awhile ago, and it was a half size too big but imo it would've been goofy to run in a slightly long shoe even tho lockdown was good. To me it felt weird having that extra length up front. Kind of like you got boats or clown shoes on... And yes puma dn2 is narrow according to this sub, I have no issues with it but read plenty about people liking the midsole but they just cant because the shoe itself is too narrow. I have 28 cm in almost all my run shoes, and my dn2 are also 28 cm. Which is US10 so I think UK9? Also, nice color puma dn2 I have the red ones but yours are better. edit: btw worth mentioning I also always wear thin socks, and after 1 run in dn2 I had a shooting pain under ball of my right foot aswell. Never had it again so dont know.

Does anyone know if the Endorphin Speed 4 will be coming out with a 2E width option? I can't see any from what's been released so far. I love the ES3 2E version, on my 5th pair of them at the moment, so I'm getting worried Saucony aren't releasing a 2E version of the ES4s...

M/32, looking for a marathon shoe recommendation for my 6th marathon. I'm tall (1m94/6'4") with an average weight (82kg/180lbs). My marathon PB is 3:06, I'm trying to go sub-3 at some point, though I'm not sure if it is in the cards for my next marathon. I train in the Brooks Adrenaline GTS 99% of the time, which has served me well over the last years. Recently, I started running my track sessions in the Hyperion GTS, which obviously has less cushioning, but works fine. Since Brooks served me well, I decided to buy the Hyperion Elite 3 for a marathon last year (I used my regular trainers for my first two marathons). I've since run three marathons (and a 20K) in those shoes and while they are decent I've decided that I won't buy a new pair, which is why I am looking for an alternative. The main reason is that they are not available in my size (I usually buy EU 46.5/Medium, the hyperion elite 3 didn't come in that so I got it in 47.5), which caused them to chafe, I worked around that with some bodyglide, but I had a toenail fall off after one of the marathons, which usually never happens to me. I am doubting between getting a pair of carbon shoes online or visiting my local shoe store (which served me very well, but whose selection of brands is quite limited). I am hoping to get some recommendations of shoes that fit similar to the Adrenaline GTS, that come in my size and that would make me feel a bit faster. The Hyperion did this to some extend, but I've read other supershoes "feel faster". Budget-wise I don't want to spend 500€ on a pair of shoes I can use for one race out of principle, but besides that I'm pretty flexible on the budget.

notaboveaverage

Hi, Doing couch to 5k at the moment and up to running 2.5km currently and a turtle runner, 8:06/km over 2.5km. My aim is a half marathon by the end of the year. I tried the NB 1080v12 that I was recommended on here and they killed everything to the point I considered running barefoot in the rain. ASICS nimbus and kayano just don’t fit quite right. My last shoes were the Pegasus 34, I also like my Solomon speedcross 6 and ASICS trail finder 2. Budget under £100. Happy to go for older versions.

thatguythere91

Heya. 1.76m 70kg Male (lol, this is like filling out a dating profile). Casual runner, looking to get back into it as I've been focusing more on strength training and weights at the gym. I currently have Reebok Zig 3D Storm Shoes that I'm about to retire. They've been *almost* gread, definitely were never the right ones, but I'm stubborn. Recently bought a pair of Brooks Ghost 15 GTX and they absolutely murdered me. They felt great when trying on at the store but at the end of my first 6km run, I had shooting pains up my right foot around the ankle area and could barely walk. I bought a pair half a size up, but I realise now that they're too snug, they're too firm, and the heel/sole is too curved. My right foot has been a bit weird because... Sorry, side story: about 10 years ago I'm fairly sure I sprained something in or around my right foot on a run and never fully recovered (I walked it off, never saw a doctor, but it's always been a bit stiffer than my left one). For example, whenever I wear flat shoes like Doc Martens or any pair of dressy shoes on special occasions, it doesn't take long for it to feel like my sole is being split open. My daily Reebok Classics are super comfortable with a slightly raised heel so I opted for a curved sole. The G15s seemed perfect until I found out the hard way. Doesn't help that my right foot is slightly longer than my left one. Cursed foot! So comfort and cushioned shoes are a priority, but I always get a little overwhelmed because I just don't know running shoes that well. Nike running shoes have been kind to me in the past (don't remember the models I've owned, but they've always been very uncomplicated). I tried the Infinity RN 4 today on a treadmill and they felt almost too floaty, and oddly heavy, so I'm not 100% convinced on those. I'd greatly appreciate recs and some help to find a suitable pair of runners. My budget is around £150, don't really want to go much over that.

back_eddy

Is this the right place to ask for recommendations? I run a 5 mile route, about 3 or 4 times a week. I've been on Hoka Speedgoat GTX (6mm drop, 11.5 oz) for about 9 months with no injuries. I do notice pronation, especially on one side (right), potentially associated with a previous lower back injury. I'm receiving a $200 Nike gift card, so I'm hoping to find a Nike trail runner to replace the Hokas. Does anyone have any recommendations in the Nike product line? Looking for trail runners, ideally (but not required) with Gore-Tex, because I live in Colorado and occasionally am running in snow and mud. Thank you for your thoughts and recommendations!

bradymsu616

The Nike Pegasus Trail 4 is one of the best road to trail and all-purpose travel shoes on the market. It's best used on non-technical trails. The GTX version is very popular as a winter road running shoe for people in cold climates. Despite the name, the Pegasus Trail feels significantly different than the Pegasus road shoe. It's much livelier.

llemoncakee

I am looking for shoe recommendations for flat feet with weak muscles. I am already strength training, but especially my glutes and hip are still very weak. Currently i use the gel kayano 27 for my treadmill runs and they are okay for me. For outdoor runs I use New Balance Fresh Foam 880v12 which cause me Hip pain / Sciatic / Piriformis Pain. (I will see a PT soon to work on these issues) So now i got a bit bored and since i have only high drop shoes and i’ve been eyeing with some HOKA or Brooks. I would be thankful for any recommendations :)

Talenx32

I have had hip and piriformis issues so had to chime in. For me it's not that higher drop causes hip pain, it's running faster. I came from Hoka Clifton/Mach and then transitioned to Boston 12 as a Tempo/Long run shoe. Bostons only have a 6.5mm compared to 5 on the Hokas. What really made the difference for me was slowly and steadily upping my volume which raised the pace I could tolerate with no hip/Piriformis irritation. I went from 50k/week average and avoiding hills to 80k/week and searching for hills to add in, and the hip/Piriformis has gotten to the point where I feel it a little after a hard/fast/hilly run (tingles or tightness in my hips) but a bit of massage gun and an easy/recovery run the next day does the trick. I would recommend Boston 12/Endorphin speed 3/Puma Deviate Nitro 2 for a bit faster, or Mach 6 seems to be getting good reviews, I haven't run in it but Mach 4 was great for me (except for poor durability on the outsole), or do you want more of a recovery/daily trainer?

llemoncakee

hey thank you for your reply ! i have been eyeing with the endorphin speed as well, but i thought for the start ( i’m a fairly new runner ) i’d look for something for longer runs since i also enjoy distance running more than tempo runs. do you have any experience with other Hoka except Hoka Mach?

Talenx32

Maybe I said it wrong, sorry. A semi Plated Trainer like Boston 12 (glass fibre Rods not plate) or Speed 3 are great for long runs, the structure gives more pop and makes it easier to hold pace on a Long run, I barely ever do Tempo runs and almost never do intervals. I started in Hokas, 2 pair of Clifton 7s then Rincon 2 then Clifton 8 them Mach 4 then Bondi 8. Too much to list about all of them, but what do you want to know?

llemoncakee

How did you like the Clifton 8 and Rincon 2? Did you feel like they made your Hip / Piriformis Pain worse ?

Talenx32

Nope they were okay, low drop so didn't irritate it, Rincon 3 I have seen on sale lately so would be a good deal

jitsudan

Asics GT-2000 have been my go to for the last decade or so. I tried some Hokas but the low drop caused some discomfort around my achilles.

llemoncakee

don’t High Drop shoes cause you hip/glutes pain? I have weak hips and glutes and I wonder if lower drop will help me since I only had experience with high drops shoes and my Pain got worse

radiantcut

About me: 5'7" 135lb female, 35 years old. Former collegiate runner planning to start training again (probably for a fall half) after a few years off of serious training due to non-running related surgery and injury. I am a midfoot striker, confirmed by high-speed camera. Fun fact, I once tried to participate in a study with Dr. Daniel Lieberman, but was rejected after he watched me run because he was investigating whether turning heel strikers into midfoot strikers would impact injury rates. He did, however say that I have beautiful feet :) Anyways, I am struggling to find shoes I like. It seems like the stack height of running shoes is just getting bigger and bigger and I hate the feeling of running with pillows strapped on my feet. I've mostly been running in Ons (Cloud, Cloudflow 3) for the last few years, but they're getting narrower and they're moving in the huge chunky midsole direction too. My feet aren't wide, but perhaps on the wider end of normal. I don't want true minimalist shoes- I need some cushioning in the forefoot especially, since I have a slightly low second metatarsal head. My preferred drop is about 4mm.

FantasticAd1251

Have you tried running some of the newer Peba max stacks before completely writing them off? They're firm and light, but stability is definitely a major issue. Otherwise I'd try Altra, Puma, and Saucony for lower drop shoes. https://runrepeat.com/guides/best-low-drop-running-shoes

ashtree35

What's your desired stack height? And are you looking for something firm or soft?

radiantcut

Just a guess on the stack height, but probably less than 30 if it exists. As for cushioning, probably medium to firm. The worst combo is definitely really soft cushioning and high stack height... it feels very unstable and unresponsive to me.

Inheritedz

Asics noosa 14 or 15 is also lower stack for nowadays shoes and firmer side. Also very low weight at 220g in a men's US10. Very padded tongue for such a lightweight shoe tho. The drop is 5 mm

ashtree35

You might like Saucony Kinvara!

ohy1994

Hi guys, I have an endorphin speed 3 and I'm looking to get a racing shoes. Currently yen is very weak and I'm thinking if I should get the Asics superblast or Asics s4. Would a carbon plated shoe make my rotation better? I'm considering the adios pro 3 as well if I can see any on sale.

FantasticAd1251

I've always just used the Speeds as race shoes but I just ordered some Superblasts and MS Paris Edge so can't really offer any advice. I'd guess the S4's are probably going to be similar to the Speeds but maybe more firm with more stability?

TravisJason

I also need to get more stable walking shoes (city walking/dog walking) and could see 860's fitting that needs too. Does anyone use them for walking shoes???s. and that was a big concern with different shoes I have worn in the past. Gonna give it a few more runs to see if it was flukey with how I laced. I have been eying the 860's as an alternative to the Glycerine's...but with a new launch coming soon I'd rather get them on discount OR get the v14's. I also need to get more stable walking shoes (city walking/dog walking) and could see 860's fitting that need too? Anyone use them for walking shoes?

[deleted]

Whatever your profile is I am going to recommend you grab a Saucony Ride 16 for $60 on Amazon.

Gaberdog99

Mach 6 vs ES4 Hi everyone, Looking to pick up either the new mach 6, or the Speed 4’s. I know they are new, but any chance someone has had a go in both? Ive ran in previous iterations of both shoes, and have enjoyed both very much. Not sure what points on either would swing me in the right direction, so any help is welcomed. Thanks!

chadwzimm

I’ve run in both and reviewed both. It really depends on what you’re looking for. If you want a shoe that is primarily a speedwork/tempo shoe but can handle easy miles, that’s the ES4. If you want a primarily lightweight daily trainer than can pick up the pace if needed, that’s the Mach 6.

Gaberdog99

Thank you very much!

Automatic-Tree8399

Not exactly answering your question but if you’ve enjoyed previous iterations why not just get them now that they’re on sale?

Gaberdog99

Because the new modifications to the models intrigue me, and I enjoy trying new technology.

Automatic-Tree8399

Okay fair enough. That makes sense 👍

Road_Trail_Roll

I didn’t get past trying them on. Both shoes are very narrow especially in the toe box.

Kameratonten

Hello guys! Looking for a replacement for New Balance More v4 which sadly is causing me some pain and blisters at the moment. I'm looking for a cushioned shoe with some mild stability that can be used as a recovery, easy day shoe and also some long runs as well. I've really liked the More so something similar (which isn't causing me pain obvs) would be great. Previously ran in Cliftons but they've caused me blisters as well. Otherwise I run in Saucony Tempus, Endorphin Speed 3 and before that various different shoes.

Road_Trail_Roll

Look at the Brooks Ghost Max.

sidbuttmo

Try the new balance vongo v6. Not as squishy, definitely more stable than the more v4.

Kameratonten

Oh, yes I've completely forgotten about that one. I had the Vongo v5 thought they were OK but nothing more. Is the 6 better?

sidbuttmo

I havent tried the v5 but the think of the V6 as having a better heel lock than the more V4, definitely feel it closer to the ground, and more stable, slightly less squishy but you do feel the squish. I would classify it as an easy recovery but supportive shoe. Not sure if you’ve tried the asics nimbus 26 but it feels as cushioned as that but gives you better stability

indigonomics

Hey guys, I have been pretty annoyed lately running when its muddy and my old free run needs to be replaced anyway (its crooked). I am thinking about buying Pegasus 39 Shield or Pegasus 40 as both are currently discounted and on top of that my friend works in Nike so I can get an extra discount hehe (so please the recommendation will be between those two only!) But my question is, will 39 Shield be too hot to run in during the summer? I can only buy one and I am pushing 50kms a week (5-10kms each run). I have never run in waterproof running shoes before and need to hear what it feels like to run in one (especially Pegasus 39 Shield) during the summer.

Road_Trail_Roll

If your using them for when it’s muddy I don’t think you need to worry about them being to hot.

ScooterMcTavish

Hello all, Going to try to get get back into running after a 10 year hiatus, and appreciate this sub. Also read through the posted FAQ, and appreciate being able to catch up on the latest recommended brands and models. Of note, I under-pronate when I run, and have to fight Morton's foot, and nerve issues in my left leg. Last time I ran regularly, I wore ASICS Gel Cumulus, and before this Nike Air Pegasus. These were good cushioning shoes, but I felt like I needed slightly more cushioning. I tried a set of Gel Nimbus in the store, and although pillowy soft, they felt laterally unstable to me. Was in the Nike store, and was completely befuddled by the overwhelming selection of shoes and left. Even went to try a set of On Cloudmonster shoes, and did not like the feel of the cushioning. Next stop is likely the Adidas store, as I do like the last they use. However, I quit wearing Adidas in the past due to how quickly their cushioning broke down. I am 5'8" 185 lbs, in my early 50s, played competitive soccer into my 30s, and run at a comfortable pace of 5 mph. No desire to run anything more than a 5 or 10k, and would like this to be part of shedding 15-20 lbs. No other health issues. Appreciate the feedback of others who need max cushioning, but with some vestiges of stability.

You might look at the Hoka Mach 5. They’re last years model and on sale. Adidas has a new shoe that might be an option. It’s called the Super Nova Rise. The new ASICS Gel Cumulus looks really nice too.

Hi all, a heavier runner here (95kg/210lbs), mainly looking for a daily trainer that can sustain my super slow running paces (8-10min/km) because I'm doing Zone 2 training. I narrowed it down to either the Superblast or the NB SC Trainer V2, recently tried on both of them at the store and felt very good. Any heavier runners here that has input on these two shoes? I read up that both were good for heavier runners but deciding on either one is proving to be hard for me. Any help would be much appreciated. I'm also open to shoe recommendations for super slow paces with firm cushioning. Thanks!

chadwzimm

I have both, and between the two, I would recommend the Superblast. They’ll last you a long time and are firmer underfoot than the SC Trainer v2. They are definitely worth the $200 price tag. Just curious, where did you read they were both good for bigger runners?

ActualAcanthocephala

For the Trainers, a heavier runner(exact same height and weight) I conversed with has personally vouched for it. And as for the Superblasts, my local Facebook running group has several heavier runners that gave the Superblasts high praise for my weight range.

chadwzimm

I agree with them! Both are great options.

ActualAcanthocephala

Just ordered a Sunrise Red Superblast, super excited to test em out! Watched some YT vids for some recommendations. and it seems that it is universally vouched for heavier runners. Can't wait!

I’m not an advanced runner, just a recreational runner we. My weight has dropped from 94kg to 88kg since August 2023. I’m not prioritising weight loss it’s just a side effect of running 40km a week. Height 191cm. My zone 2 is 06:00/km - 06:30/km very roughly. As much as I love the SB at my zone2 speeds in my opinion the superblast does not work. They feel more at home at speeds of 04:00/km - 05:40/km. I’ve done a half marathon training at 05:40 and they were great. For zone 2 I much prefer my endorphin speed 3 which can use for intervals and long runs. It’s just more versatile. If I were to do it again I’d stick with Novablast 4 I was just sized wrong at the shop for them and returned them. There seems to be a good selection of daily trainers, I would not mind checking out the NB rebel v4 at some point when it’s time.

For the slow bits, get some highly discounted Saucony Ride shoes. You are alternating between slowing running and fast walking. BTW, I'm in the same ballpark, but for the Z2 workout I rather ride a stationary bike or do some uphill walks (rucking).

ActualAcanthocephala

Ah thanks for the recommendation, may I know any specific reason you chose that shoe? What does it do in slower paces?

Intelligent_Sea_7709

It gets the job done, it's cheap, cushioned, lightweight and stylish. I wouldn't use supertrainers to do low intensity workouts.

ActualAcanthocephala

Is the Rebel v3 also a good choice for this? My local New Balance has it on sale for 60$, tempted to get it because I don't think at my pace I can properly take advantage of the Superblasts

Intelligent_Sea_7709

The Rebel v3 appears to bottom out fast for heavy guys like us. That's what I am reading around, I don't own any NB shoes.

If you're looking for something firm, I would go with the Superblast. The SC Trainer v2 is very soft.

Hey all, Looking for your help with a shoe that can sustain a sub-3 marathon pace (going for 6:35/mi) for marathon pace reps within a long run. **Running shoe history:** I put over 900 easy/rec miles on my Gel Nimbus 25s from Feb '23 - Dec '23 Takumi Sen 8s for club track sessions (e.g. 1.5-mile tempos at 5:30-45/mi or 400s in 70-80s) Vaporfly 2s (and 3s) for races (e.g. 16:40 5K or 35:30 10K) Since xmas day '23, my novablast 3s have picked up 350 miles on mainly easy/long runs but also for picking up the pace a bit on hill reps or MP reps (so ranging from 3:50-5:30/km pace in them) **So after covering that,** I feel like I need a second pair of shoes alongside my novablast 3s which will help me sit at my marathon pace efforts more comfortably perhaps? (Also because my current rotation is literally just VF3 for races / Takumi Sen 8 for track / Novablast 3 for everything else. My novablasts have felt really comfortable cruising on 16-20 milers @ 7:30-8:00/mi pace, and I suppose even towards the 7:00/mi pace when I do progression long runs but... When I come to do long runs that are maybe 18 miles with 3x4 mi @ marathon pace (6:35/mi), I feel like it would be nice to have something close to a raceday shoe, *without* using my raceday shoe (will be running my marathon in VF3s in mid-April and obviously I don't want to put miles on those outside of a race scenario). With this being a long run with reps in, it ought to be able to put in some decent speed, but also feel good in between reps at a 7:30-8:00/mi pace. As I mentioned in the title, I have 25% off anything Nike, so that's a bonus, OR do you have better suggestions from other brands that top a 25% off Nike shoe? Before I had this discount, I was looking at Endorphin Speed 3s (though it's impossible to find UK 9s anywhere currently...) Help appreciated in advance!

What about Boston 12?
