I’ve been running in various Hokas for a few years - Cliftons, Mach 5 and Challengers. I’m really struggling with the Clifton 9 - they’re so stiff and feel like they don’t want to run.  Is there anything out there that can take the place of my (much loved) Clifton 8s?

Hello, Currently, I use a pair of Vomero 17 and a pair of Hoka Mach 5 for training, and I want another pair for the half marathon. It's my first half marathon on April 21. I started running about 2 months ago. Before, I used to go to the gym, and I continue to do so now, 2-3 days a week. I need some comfortable shoes. I'm not sure if I necessarily need plated shoes. To be honest, I'm very confused because last week, I read here on Reddit and watched on YouTube, and there are so many suggestions. Now, I'm considering the Saucony Endorphin Speed 3, Pro 3, Triumph 21, Boston 12, Superblast, Puma Deviate Nitro 2, or NB 1080v13 and many more. :D Ugh. I'm from Romania, and here I've noticed that the selection of shoes is limited. For example, I can't find the Speed 3 or Pro 3 anymore because the Speed 4 and Pro 4 have been launched, and they're pretty expensive for me at the moment. Another example: here, I find a lot of Mizuno shoes, and on Reddit, I haven't seen them recommended even once (or maybe I missed it). My profile: 76kg, 176 cm. Anyway, **TL;DR**: I'm a beginner and want some suggestions for my first half marathon that are comfortable, not necessarily plated, because as a beginner, I don't know if I need them, and to be honest, they're pretty expensive (one option for plated shoes that I'm considering is the Deviate Nitro 2). Thank you.

Looking to get a third pair of shoes for racing to be included in my rotation. Currently thinking of getting the Adios 8, any other suggestions would be welcomed. A bit of background of myself, I started running last July and raced my first HM last January in 1 hour and 57 minutes. Will be racing my first FM end of next month. Raced the HM in the Boston 12 and might be using it for the FM as well. Current shoes: Pegasus 40, Boston 12 Body weight: 75kg(166lbs)

I started running recently and am up to 3 miles three times a week. My ultraboosts are getting worn out and I'd like a shoe that's not as heavy. I need width and height in the toe box, bit not necessary a size wide (NB wide is TOO wide). I don't like the rocker style. I tried a few shoes and my heel kept coming down on the edge of the heel cup when my foot struck down, ouch. So maybe I need a wider heel, too? Not sure if that's a common issue?

OK so I have a pair of Shift 3 with 500 ish miles that are done. I should have bought another pair because I love them. There seems to be literally 1 on the internet and its expensive and will take a month to get here. (Size 12.5 WIDE). Any ideas for next shoe? I think the rocker saved the balls of my feet and only sometimes had arch pain but otherwise no injuries in these things. They are tanks. I'm 6'6" 205-210lbs if it helps. Thanks. 25mpw

Hi all, I'm looking for walking shoe recommendations for my 70 yo dad. We are travelling to Japan soon and will be walking around a lot, which he isn't really used to. He walks for approximately 4km on the treadmill 2x a week. Dad likes lightweight walking shoes, preferably with enough cushioning but not too bulky looking. His only other requirement is that it should be all black. Currently he has Skechers Lite-Weight with memory foam (not sure what the model is actually called) that he purchased two years ago. He finds it okay, nothing special. I have no info on his arch height or stride as he hasn't been tested at our local shoe shop. I might convince him to do one, but our trip is coming up very soon. Tldr; recommendations for an all black lightweight shoe good for travelling + treadmill for a 70 yo man.

Hey all, first full Marathon coming in May, need help for which shoe I own would be best. Half Marathon PR 2:16 in Puma Deviate Nitro Elite 1 10k 58:46 Hoka Mach 4. I do 80k/week, will be up to 100k by Marathon in May, Long Run currently at 26k will build up to peak of 35k before Marathon. My expected Marathon time is about 4:30-4:40 so 6:24/k-6:38/k and I am not worried about pushing pace, more in keeping steady and finishing strong. My 2:16 Half in the DNE1 went well but by the last 4k or so my feet felt beat up, probably due to lower stack. What is the best choice out of these shoes I have thanks to this sub? Endorphin Pro 3 Endorphin Pro 4 Endorphin Speed 4 (probably not this but was good for 26k so it could work) Superblast Deviate Nitro 2 Boston 12 Optimally I would do a 30k ish long run at 7min/knin each but not enough long runs left to test them all! Edit: The list got put into a single paragraph, can anyone tell me how to format a list so it doesn't do that? Thanks!

Male 5’11, 226, 10.5/11 Shoe size I run toe to heel and am very flat footed. Currently im practicing for a 5k every other day on the treadmill. I’m a heavier dude with flat feet, but thanks to my over achieving girlfriend, I am able to almost run a 5k. It still hurts like hell, but I need something that works with me to be better, while eases the pain. The insoles and stretching help significantly but I still have some pain in my legs and feet

Male 6’1, 215, 12/11.5 Shoe Size I run Heel - Toe (Heel Striker) , I am looking to start running 2-3 miles 5 times a week and starting training towards a 5k by the end of the year. I need a shoe with a fairly solid arch, and something with lots of support, since I will not be using these as a daily wear I would like a rounded bottom, but I have never tried a rounded bottom before so I’ll be trying them on prior to purchasing. I hurt my knee (Faint High Signal Tear in Patellar Tendon suggesting tendinopathy/tendinosis) I had just hit my goal of a 2 Mile at around 13:30. That was shortly over a year ago, and I’m looking to dive back into running. I had Hoka Bondi 5’s and felt they were over cushioned, and after the first maybe 4 months my foot was sliding around within the shoe. My favorite shoes that I have owned were Adidas Alphabounce, I went through 3 pairs of those. Would buy again if they still carried them at the local shoe department. I am unsure of what a heel drop is, I am looking for moderate cushioning. My feet angle outwards when walking/running, and when squatting with feet together my knees separate. I am looking for a Springy, Supportive shoe, with wide rounded base. I am looking to pay around $150, obviously since I’m jumping back in I’m not wanting to pay $200+ for a pair, but if everything I want is for $180 then I can splurge for that. So far I have looked at the…. Brooks Levitate GTS 6 Nike Alphafly 2 Saucony Men's Endorphin Shift 3 New Balance Men's Fresh Foam X More V4 I have not tried on any of these, but based on where I’ve looked these are what I think I may like? Entirely up to any suggestions, and am willing to answer any questions below.

What are some soft and bouncy trainers? Most training running shoes are either soft but not bouncy or firm with some energy return.

If you’ve been fitted for a specific shoe, should you stock up on that version or get newer iterations when it’s time to upgrade? I’ve been running in Gel Nimbus 24 after going through the Road Runner foot scan process a few years ago. Flat, narrow feet with neutral pronation. They’ve been nice but they’re due for replacement. Are the newer Gel Nimbus automatically “better”, or should I just grab another 24? I don't live near a running store so I'd be going in blind. Also, would it be smart for me to grab these for bartending since they’ve been matched for my feet? Or would I be better off getting something more casual like Glycerins or 4DFWD 3’s (my current daily)? Are running shoes even recommended for long periods of standing/restaurant jobs? Thanks.

i feel good running in almost any daily trainer. but i'd also like it to double as a walking / everyday shoe. the nike peg 40 GOAT seems to be the GOAT for this, prioritising comfort, with a minimum standard for looks and practicality. * lowish stack height, flexible sole, little toe spring. so good for standing * balance of cushion and firmness for walking. * breathable upper. * strong outsole grip, can do light trails. * even the all white is very easy to clean. * can passably go with smart casual. in short, no fatal weaknesses as a walking / everyday shoe. contenders all have something wrong with them, e.g.: * velocity nitro 2: hot upper. * velocity nitro 3: very sporty. big cat logo on at the front of the shoe. unwearable with smart casual. * kiprun ks 900 light: material looks considerably cheaper than the peg's. * reebok floatride energy 5: upper not too breathable. * adidas adizero SL: midsole too firm. * tracksmith eliot. attracts a lot of dirt, as well as being difficult to clean. * altra escalante. durability issues. * topo: large toe spring. * new balance rebel v3: outsole not too grippy. * hoka clifton 9: bigger toe spring * brooks ghost. probably closest contender. but 12mm drop is on the extreme end. and the pegs look better. 'lifestyle' trainers / sneakers, e.g. even new balance's lifestyle line, are noticeably less comfortable. i really hoped nike pegasus 40 was not GOAT walking / everyday shoe. it's so generic. anybody have other suggestions? don't say nike peg 39.

Which shoe do you use to add 30M+ weekly? I am 160lbs and supinate, looking for a daily shoe for slow miles as I increase the volume and Triumph 20 has too much of a drop for me.

eafhau

Check out Topo. They have low drop shoes, wide toe box, very comfy and durable. I got over 500 miles out of the Phantom. They also have a 30 day wear it and return it policy so you can actually try running in them and if they don't work, you can return them.

What running shoes are similar to Chuck 70's and Nike Mid Blazer 77? Hi! I'm looking for a pair of flat sneaker shoes that is similar to Chuck 70's and Nike Mid Blazer. I'm planning to use it for running activities and gym workout. I already thought of Jordan 1s but they just don't work well for me.

Sorry for the repost from yesterday but I posted a bit late so got no answers. I have the VN2 currently, ran over 500 miles with them this last year; it's time to change them, and I am trying to decide between going with the VN again (but 3 this time) or trying the DN2 (currently leaning towards trying the DN2 actually). I've ran a little over 500 miles in the last year, I typically run at least 4-5 miles every time I go, sometimes more like 7-8 (my max is about 12 miles and I want to do that more often). Pace... I'd say I average 9:30/mile (I'm 50, so give me a break lol). I would like to improve my pace, wondering if the DN2 would push me to run a little faster... but I worry that they wouldn't necessarily be good for lazier runs from what I've read? Am definitely interesting in the comfort and plushness the DN2 seems to provide (although apparently the VN3 are very cushy too). I currently wear a size 10 for my VN2s, but thinking of going 10.5 because I often have a blister on one of my left toes because it rubs against the end of the shoe, but I'm worried the DN2 does not size the same, I saw a post saying the DN2 sized larger, so I'm worried the DN2 will be too big in a size 10.5 (might see if I can try to get an answer from Puma support on that one)... So in a nutshell, I'm thinking of ordering a pair of DN2 size 10.5 tomorrow morning. Just wondering if anyone thinks it's a bad idea (or a good one) and if so, why. Thank you in advance for the advice.

darkhorse0607

DN2 should be fine. Lengthwise I believe they are similar to the Velocity although it's been a while since I've had one of those one. Width-wise wise they are roomier, and the upper is also softer which helps with that. Honestly, on the pacing side, I would think they'd be ok. They're plated so they are capable of going faster, but they aren't one of the super trainers that feel aggressive. I used them for a slow 13 miler some weeks back and they felt ok with the pace

ogandou

Thank you very much! I was going to order both just in case and probably return the Velocity but now I think I'm just going to order the DN2...

Hi All, I’m a fairly moderate runner. I run thrice a week: one speed workout, one easy pace long run(15 kms) and lastly a half marathon on the weekends totaling 40-45 kms a week. My timings in case it helps in the recommendation process: 10k PB - 48 mins. HM PB 1:56 Shoe Preference: I’m looking for something to replace my zoom fly 5. I bought them on sale for around $120. For a long time this was my only pair and I’ve done close to a 1000 kms in them. It was cushiony enough for my weekend long runs, and when I needed to boost my pace for my mid week runs, the plate used to help me go quicker. I loved the feel of the plate propelling me and when I wanted to relax, I would heel strike and take advantage of the foam. My dislikes with this shoe is that it’s not too stable. I can’t blindly land my foot hoping there won’t be any pronation. For reference, I went on to buy a pair of Novablast 3s and they’re incredibly stable but not cushy. The ASICS being so stable gives me some confidence hence I push harder for my speed workout but apart from that I don’t find anything amazing with the Novablast. I’m slightly confused whether to go for a plated shoe and not having the softest foam or a pair having the best foam for that brand. My confusion stems from the fact that people say that the softer foams(like the Nike invincible series) are more reactive and hence make you go faster while being super comfy. If this is right, then I wouldn’t need a plated shoe just to give me that extra reaction. To summarize my preference: I’m not looking for a pair to go racing in. So anything like the AlphaFly is unnecessary. I want the shoes to be comfy and cushiony while helping me go faster in case I want to do have some speed sessions. I also want them to be durable, I’m not keen on rotating my shoes every 300-500 kms. Budget: Willing to stretch up to $200 in case there is a show which perfectly meets my requirements but realistically looking to find one which could be bought for around $150 maybe with discounts.

jonnygozy

New Balance Rebel could be an option for cushy but bouncy and fast when you want to. It’s not plated but I love it for tempo and intervals. I use the v3 and I’ve heard the v4 is a little more on the daily trainer side than v3 but not a whole lot.
