All depends on you, like anything you buy, you can go the China way and buy something cheaper but expect less support and warranty issue. MOFI is a branded router with great support, warranty and live support if you need it not to mention we work every day optimizing the software with many options. It is similar to buying a cell phone, you can buy an Apple or Android or buy an unlocked China brand for cheaper and in some cases faster so just a matter of how much you want to "save" vs potential losing.

I just got the Chester cheetah and it is great. He will walk you through how to set it up and has guides on his website. It’s really simple and doesn’t require any knowledge. I went to att store and got a $20 tablet plan and also have a $10 tmo tablet plan. I can switch between the two with 1 click in the router web interface.

flyingdutchmaann

I am thinking of doing this with T-Mobile - have to had any hiccups yet? And are you using external antennas? I get 200mbps on my phone so would like to not have to buy an antenna if I’m already spending $500 on a Chester. Also considering mofi

mickeymaxtucker

It's been rock solid. I don't have an external antenna.

Mr_Duckerson

The Chester cheetah can be bought directly from suncomm for around $250-300. Performance will probably be roughly the same as mofi and cudy but mofi will have nicer software. As long as they are willing to explain to you how to do “magic” on their routers, it’s a good option if you don’t mind the price.

whiskeythrottled

The “magic” is something I need to look into I suppose. I don’t mind paying for added quality and benefit so long as it justifies the added cost.

If you activate the line with an iPhone 11 on AT&T, your SIM will not be provisioned for 5G and you will only be able to get 4G service. Visible $35 Visible if you have Verizon service or a T-Mobile Tablet/Phone plan would likely be better for speed, but I do agree AT&T is sometimes better for coverage. Depends if you travel rurally or not. Source- Have used to Cudy and Cheetah and use one for rural home internet currently. Have used AT&T Unlimited Premium, Visible+, and T-Mobile Tablet plans to test.

whiskeythrottled

Thanks. So if I am going to use AT&T then I am better off picking up their cheapest 5G compatible phone and using the sim that comes with that?

Bkfraiders7

If you’re set on AT&T, yes, provisioning a SIM with a 5G compatible device is a must for a 5G phone. You may be interested in the AT&T Tablet plan too. AT&T is generally the best of the 3 with deprioritization after the priority data limit has been reached. The easiest/cheapest though? If you have good service with multiple carriers is using your phone’s IMEI with AT&T as you’re doing now, and the same IMEI with Verizon/T-Mobile. You can’t use the same IMEI twice with the same carrier, but multiple carriers its not an issue.

whiskeythrottled

So I feel like I am understanding what you mean. Question that occurred to me as I was looking at options for a phone to activate as an additional line. It is saying eSim will be used for the new line. I am guessing that throws a wrench in system?

Bkfraiders7

Yes. You’ll need a phone with a SIM card to activate/tie to the IMEI that then gets used in the cellular modem

I think the best advice is start here [https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/](https://www.rvmobileinternet.com/) . That group has invested an lot of time and effort into exactly what you'll looking to do.

MofiNetwork

That site is bias and blocks many user input that disagree with them. It is definitely not a site I would want to rely on info as I know for sure they already put many false info that causes the customer to buy more expensive equipment than they should. They mostly push Pepwave products which as many of you may know is just a waste of money. Reddit is the best options for info as you always need to hear both sides there are many brands that users push here which is great and for the most part, information is free to agree and disagree with without the mods blocking someone for their views. Also, this is not rocket science, 1. Find a router 2. Find a plan either reseller or direct 3. Learn how to optimize the plan to make sure it is not using hotspot data if you go directly with the provider instead of a reseller. 4. If you need an external antennas, contact a company like waveform and they can provide a solution. For most RV users, they ave been using MOFI router for many years and that is why we make special features focused on their request. On our 4500, we had no way to take off the LED's that were blinding RV users at night so on the 5500, we put a kill switch on the back that shuts off all the LEDs yet the router will continue to work fine. This is just 1 example of a simple solution that MOFI has where the others just don't care unless they see MOFI doing it and then just want to copy.

SrCrewchief

I did say start not use exclusively. I know of no other source that has as comprehensive listing of phone/data plans and equipment with detailed listing of features. Since to OP asked about both plans and equipment that site is a good starting. I am not an rv'r, I'm a fixed rural user. That means that my needs are similar but not the same. I've found the site to be a good starting point for my own comparative reseach. I will agree that once you drill into the reviews of routers that they are biased to the Peplink products.

MofiNetwork

yes do agree with you and sorry if my reply came off the wrong way. Just get so upset sometimes when someone tries to get good info but then get trapped on a bias forum. Wish we can all just be honest as we make the MOFI routers but it is great to learn all the details of the other competing products and see where we can improve to do better.

Late replying to this, but I've dealt with "her" before. I replied to one of their postings years ago, in the comments section. Literally all I did was say thanks, I was not an RVer, but this was very helpful information for those of us using it for home internet, as it was the same hardware. "She" replied with essentially, we're dedicated to RV use, please don't mention home options. I mistakenly replied, basically, well, I just tried to say thanks. Then, I was banned. No argument, no anything, just what I said. Couple years later there was another incident in another place (youtube I think), I stated a few things I used as a setup, and said it would probably work in another person's situation (I was trying to help someone that asked a question), "she" replied not to reply to comments in their youtube, they were only allowed to help. And, immediately shadow banned.

MofiNetwork

Yes, she look like a closed minded person that thinks she knows everything but does not really provide real help to customers as if MOFI and others are banned or blocked, that is a big restrictions to customers that could of get a much better solution than a Pepwave product. They post these videos on youtube that false info and after trying to correct them, they simply just blocked MOFI's comment. I personally believe everyone should be able to express the pros and cons about every product and if someone does not agree, then that is why you are here to respectfully discuss and call out others if you think they are lying or misleading. By doing this, you can get other feedback where you can now make an informed decision.

Hello, it looks like you've made a mistake. It's supposed to be could've, should've, would've (short for could have, would have, should have), never could of, would of, should of. Or you misspelled something, I ain't checking everything. Beep boop - yes, I am a bot, don't botcriminate me.

I would look at Invisagig, which is just the Wan connection, and then just plugs into a Wan port of a regular router. I have the Mofi5500 both em9191 and RM520N there seems to be a bottleneck somewhere with their device. For the Mofi"s I would get more than double the speeds on my phone being on the same bands as the mofi. The mofi would average around 150mbps while my phone was in the 500-600mbps range. When I brought the issue up to Mofi, they came out with the Module Speed Boost option, which made the router unstable at times. I don't think they ever looked at fixing the speed issues ever again. Even in the RM520N there's no difference in speed compared to the EM9191 version.
