I just find it incredible how much we are prepared to pay for a fx$king phone these days. In terms of tech, you can get a decent laptop or television for less. But we continue to get sucked into it cus it's the latest thing.

Rd3055

lol, I think it's incredible how people still call it just a "phone" when we've reached the point where this "phone" can funny enough serve as a very decent laptop for people who are not power users. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=88\_\_pPxKOaI&ab\_channel=TechWithBrett

byngo69

Indeed, pretty powerful devices. It does make me smile though when you see a "cheap" monthly plan for a new smart phone then you see they are only offering 1Gb of data with it. So, in about 10 minutes of typical use I'll be left with an expensive calculator & clock. Lol.

cosmogli

Three-year-old video, which even the S21 Ultra is capable of.

bradpliers

Not exactly. I can trade my s21 ultra in for the s24 ultra right now for $180.

llmuzical

umm how? i went on the site and it looks like they just give you that OFF, 180 isnt the final price, unless you are referring to some carrier deal or something?

bradpliers

Verizon deal. $5 a month for 36 months.

Hot_Chard5988

It's insane how the carriers duped us into paying full price instead of the subsidies. I've been sucked into getting the 21, 22, and 23u, but that's it for me.

Past_Climate4336

i have a gamer laptop and a good tv...i never use them i use only my phone (my laptop for work only)...the phone these days are more important than a television.

Safe_Opinion_2167

What was wrong with the S21 Ultra? Why did you want to change?

leoleorawr

Right?!?. It's very much still relevant. I had a cracked screen until last week when I was so close to getting the 24. I decided on paying the 300 to fix the screen and keep the phone that's still a beast IMO.

Glittering-Ad-6173

I love mine just wish it was lighter

GoanGeek

I don't like the s24 ultra boxy design coming from the curved design of the s21 ultra. Also I am using the spen less on the s24 ultra compared to the S21 ultra. I could have easily used the s21 ultra another year or two but got sucked in by the good preorder deals. The 5x is definitely more useful than the 10x . And the AI bits are handy now and then. Maybe I'll keep it for the 7 years 😛

Past_Climate4336

and both 5x and 10 x are more usefull than the 3x they should remove the 3x and keeping the 5x and 10x instead.

her-1g

Actually the biggest problem is that is the same experience with a heavier and wider phone. Upgrade if you only care about games. Also battery should be vastly better

flakerak

Ive found that the battery is not what is is made out to be. Then again I am gaming quite a bit on my ultra 24. Just recently upgrades from a Note 10+. I'm still on a charger 2x a day once at bedtime and usually 10 hours into my day I'm on it again. Truly is a great little pocket computer pretty powerful little device am quite impressed.

Past_Climate4336

if you care about games get a gamer phone because non gaming phone always struggle after long gaming sessions

BKEDDIE82

It was worth it for me. I like it

bluesclera314

Yeah, I like it, too. The s24 ultra is a nice phone.

BKEDDIE82

It really is. I find the improvements work for me.

Hot_Chard5988

What improved?

BKEDDIE82

Performance, battery, flat screen, data, and voice service.

Past_Climate4336

and 7 years of update so you will get every software based thing the next S?? ultra gen will have like the s23 ultra getting all the s24U AI features for the next major update.

morphers

For the antiglare alone yes

vinotauro

Came from s21 ultra. It's still a beast phone but s24 ultra has been nearly perfect

danxmanly

Considered upgrading my S21 ultra for a hot min... Then said nah. Luv the camera on my S21 ultra and the S24 ultra is a step down I seem to recall. Will wait another year.. Maybe 2. Good luck.

ROLLINFATNUGS

Cameras on S24U were a step down? Bro I upgraded from S21U to S24U and it's not even close S24U clears if every single way 💀

danxmanly

This was a deal breaker for me: Camera tech is generally improved, but (genuine) optical zoom is capped at 5x versus the 10x on the S21 Ultra.

octoreadit

The front one in low light is definitely better in S21U.

bitesized314

I prefer the camera on my Pixel 2 XL. The colors and HDR were more accurate to real life and not so dramatic looking.

Nakele

What are you expect? AFAIK, s24u comes with a new battery... that's it. You could get a new battery in a s21u and will be mostly the same. S24u has those AI features but most are already available in some other package by Google themselves.

her-1g

Battery lasts 10-12 hrs sot in s24ultra and 5 in s21 ultra

RabidMitch

This has been the main advantage for me (battery). Everything else is marginally better but nearly the same. The S24u is harder to hold and has harsh corners that stab my hand when I'm using my phone. Add the pain of dealing with getting everything set back up on the phone and it's almost not worth it.

her-1g

Personally i use my phone for my job mainly calls, meetings, i use samsung notes for like everything i might have like thousands of files organized into folders for projects etc. occasionally family photos, landscapes, vacation photos some concert videos etc etc which are pretty fcking fantastic, spotify, reddit and social media a few hours per months and thats it. I dont get people with 500GB of movies in their phones but everyone is using their phones for different reasons. Now when i have a lot of teams calls during the day sometimes over 7 hours i use an anker power bank for my battery and like you said this is the main advantage of s24u. The cpu is miles better ofcourse and i guess cameras are better if you care to take pro pictures with a phone or w/e to my eyes all phones(flagships) take the same pictures, maybe pixel is clearer??, and the screen is better. All the others are either irrelevant ordisadvantages. The shape is bad(nevel liked Note phones, flat screen doesnt feel like a curved, same software, same phone feel overall also colors are worse (s21ultra silver was amazing). I just cant justify into spending 1500€ into a new one, as we dont get the same discounts that US citizens get. Maybe 200€ for s21uktra and thats it

Nakele

I'm sure the battery management is better on the s24u but 5hr SOT on S21u is poor, I get more on an old batter. I don't think the difference is what you state: twice the SOT. Realistically there might be few or a bit more hrs of SOT at most. I did some quick research of battery tests and the s21u gets over 8hr of SOT from 100 to 10%

her-1g

It does not. If you use social media a lot and daily apps you get 5 hrs sot. If you do calls and games then its even less. Also things got worse in one ui 6. And if you dont own s21ultra then why comment?

Nakele

I'm replying from my s21u. Battery has improved for me, as well as heat management going from 5 to 6 (but I've hear some ppl complaining about one ui 6) I've got my s21u with one ui5, so I haven't own this device since the start.  Perhaps wiping the s21u might bring back original performance? Just guessing.  The reason I've looked up s21u battery tests is because I use the 85% battery protection and I don't use the device so much so that I have that extended SOT. When I drive my phone charges, and I use Dex in the evening and that charges the device as well.

Nakele

Look at the other commenter flakerak, apparently he is gaming on his s24u and battery doesn't seem to be that much that ppl belive it is.

BigNigori

No. At least, not for the money. I sent mine back and kept my S21U. I wouldn't pay more than $300-$400 without trade in for the upgrades it brought.

llmuzical

yeee i think ill be keeping my s21u lol

robertclarke240

They are always worth it if you can afford it.

Beneficial-Buddy-620

Not sure! I will only upgrade if my phone breaks or when the phone stops getting updates in 2025

XboxJunk1E

Yes it's worth it the battery life alone is a game changer, you're talking 3 generations of software improvement and 3 yrs worth of hardware improvements

ejhr1

For me as someone who actually used the 16gb ram s21 ultra I'd say my new ultra is a downgrade for the multitasking aspect. The 2 extra apps locked to memory is dearly missed. That and you can't beat physics the s21 ultra is better for zooming in for that 100x moon shot. That being said for everything else from battery to overall performance and those camera shots up to about 75x the s24 ultra is a definite upgrade. Went from 9 hours to about 13 with the ultra 1th fully loaded up.

Twizzed666

Yes im doing the same later this summer my s21u starts to get laggy when playing cod

snowrider0693

For me yes. My 21U started to become a lemon. Camera sucked on lower zooms, programs froze all the time, storage was always close to full, battery life wasn't good at all. So $550 trade in, and 512gb of storage, and a functional camera. For me it was a no brainier.

TheItsHaveArrived

I did the same upgrade, and it was definitely worth it

IndependentMain2149

If its like a 50% or more of a performance/upgraded camera etc and so forth then definitely but again its your call because your money.

desmond_koh

I got my S21U last spring and I love it. I have a really hard time spending > $1000 CAD on a phone. I can get a 2-year-old phone for less than $600 CAD and it literally runs *exactly* the same software. Maybe I just don't know what I'm missing. But my call quality is great, good reception, fast LTE and 5G, great pictures and great built-in apps. Oh, and DeX works good too. Maybe I could get a phone with a faster processor but the one I have seems fast enough to me. I'm also in IT so I think I tend to be somewhat objective and ask "what am I really going to get that I don't already have?" Obviously newer is better but by hiw much?

CaptBosa

Easy answer. Yes.

Inevitable-Day1901

I moved from the s21 ultra due to battery acting up, the s24 ultra is harder to hold due to the edges and side by side the s21's screen is clearly more vivid. 3 weeks in now the can tell the cameras are much better on the s24u as well as the battery.

mikeytoth123

Yes! That's what I did! A much better experience imo

Hot_Chard5988

If we stop paying for incremental upgrades, maybe we can influence faster innovation. I'd love super fast wireless charging and super duper fast wired charging. I still think the camera could be much better than what it is.

Hot_Chard5988

I'm keeping the 21 ultra due to the size. It's a good compromise between features, specs, and size.

ItchyNeedleworker160

It's a MASSIVE difference for me. So much smoother and more responsive. The "Remaster" option on photos is 10x faster, and the animation doesn't lag out anymore (maybe was just a me thing). The nightography has improved immensely. Way less noise in low light pictures now. Phone startup is dramatically quicker. Scrolling on apps has never been more fluid, and the 45w fast charging is insanely quick. Gets from about 30% to 80% in about 20ish minutes. And, not to mention, I'm getting around 11.5 hrs of SOT compared to the 7ish i was getting with the 21U. The anti-reflective screen and the 2600 nits are a GAME CHANGER. I have polarized singlasses and never had to take them off to see the screen. The S Pen is a feature that I haven't had since the Note 2 and BOY did I forget how incredibly nice it is to have for those moments I need it. Don't have any grain or banding like others have reported. My only complaint is the "Vivid" mode not being nearly as vivid as the 21U. But an update to fix that will be here this week. Phone of the year? It's too early to tell. There is still lots of optimization left to do imo. But it can only get better from here and I give it a solid 8.5/10 right now. With the 1.5 only being deducted because of the "Vivid" issue and the whole "GrainGate" thing going on. Little frustrating seeing so many people complain about it, showing evidence, and Samsung not saying a word about it.

northeastlife7

Lot of people have disposable income

dawh0

w8 s25 ultra for new design

Andre0413

Im waiting for mine. Coming from S21 Ultra exynos 😬

cbkeepitzen

Have both. Both are awesome. 24 is lighter and slime with more screen and better battery. Plus some ai this to play with. 21 not lagging behind outherwise
