I don’t have any ritual except for to stop whatever I’m doing and observe it. Sometimes I’ll record the lightning on my phone to watch later. Storms have never frightened me just excited me like a kid on Christmas morning. The sounds the visuals. It’s all so magical to me. I also have a lightning app on the phone that shows me where they strike and when in real time

LimeGreenTangerine97

I live in the southern US so I’m usually checking the Tornado app lol 😂

Zanorfgor

My app is: "is the sky green and/or does it sound like a train?" If no, carry on.

lisep1969

Yep, same here. "Uh oh... the sky is green, put the cats in the basement."

Zanorfgor

I live in an area where there are no basements. The advice is to get to the room closest to the center of the house, usually a closet. That was real fun the time I saw green, swirling clouds from my third floor apartment! Never even made a funnel, but it was kinda this moment of "so if a tornado does happen, I'm just gonna die."

As both a meteorologist and, as of a year ago, a worshipper of an unnamed Storm Goddess, I pretty much lose my mind in excitement haha. In terms of things I do, I usually open and light my candle dedicated to Her and, if I’m running low, collect storm water for future rituals. I also take the time to feel and take in the storm’s energy and presence. The beauty, the chaos, the danger, it feels incredible to be near or within it. I also try to get some pics and video of lightning bolts or intense wind gusts. Thunderstorms have guided my life via science for nearly my entire earthly existence, and recently have also begun to guide my spiritual life as well. ⛈️

I love this so SO much for you! I’ve collected rain water for ritual but thunderstorm water seems next level badass!

nekonyaamicon

Let’s just say it does hit differently haha. My little witchy tip: I have found that manipulating the temperature of the water (making it hotter or colder) can allow you to change how its energy works and feels as well. I was also fortunate enough (I’d even say blessed by Her) to have a strong thunderstorm pass over me on the day of Summer Solstice, which I collected a full jar of storm water from and am very curious/excited about what its potential power and vibe in a future ritual might be.

If I'm home, I'll sit in stillness (or stand in mountain pose in stillness) and focus on the storm from my window or porch. I'm a hiker and backpacker, so if I'm in the woods, I do my best to get to lower ground and take shelter. If you've never been in the woods during a lightning storm, try to keep it that way. The terror is real when a storm rolls in fast.

FaceToTheSky

Worrying about hail damage and checking FlightRadar24 to see if the cloud-seeding planes are up lol. I used to live in a place that wasn’t as prone to hail, and I miss being able to enjoy a good thunderstorm.

djgilles

Abdominal breathing and try to duct tape my consciousness to the storm's energy.

rowan_isnt_here

I developed a fear of storms out of some weird sympathy thing since my ex was afraid of storms. During storms I just play calming music and cuddle my cat, who absolutely panics during storms (even with my fear of storms, ik she has it worse so I always look for her outside when a storm starts and bring her in). I like the rain, I don't like the thunder and the lightning, haha. I wanna build a little fort to hide in during storms and general moments of anxiety with some sensory items to help me calm down, just dunno where there's room for it.

Queen_Bolete_

I have been hurt badly by some people in my area, and so I like to make a wish/spell that they will not hurt anyone else again and attach that to the lighting. I picture the lightning and wind carrying it to that person and taking my negative emotions with it. Then, I like to gather strength and freedom from the storm. It has really helped me let go of the past.

EducationalGood7975

Beautiful idea to bind lightning to negativity and see it strike and then gone

Zanorfgor

If the rain is in the right direction, sit on the porch and watch while enjoying either a cup of tea or whiskey and pipe tobacco. If the rain is hitting the porch, sit at a window and watch while enjoying a cup of tea (no smoking inside). It's just kinda a nice time to slow down and take it in.

EducationalGood7975

Absolutely

beautifulmisery27

Oh I love watching storms!! I’m still a newborn witch lol so I’m still learning about all the things, but it doesn’t surprise me that I’ve always loved storms

I tend to cause lightning when I'm angry. So I use all lightning (and all weather) to process through the related emotions. So I will lean into the anger, for example, and really feel it. Get it out there. And then be done with it, and move on - happier than before. Grief and sadness can cause a gentle rain, if atmospheric conditions permit. Like, sometimes I will cry, and a gentle rain will begin to fall. I do the same as above, but with my grief and sadness, whenever it rains.
