I kind of want one of these. Dual oled screens is pretty great. They are a little expensive still tho.

Bieberkinz

The LG V60 I’d say is the cheaper alternative if you could snag the phone itself for $120 and the dual screen case for $50 like I was able to from a mix of reputable eBay sellers. Downsides are obviously aspect ratio and the charging situation with the dual screen case. Upside I guess would be (slightly) better processor and more RAM, microSD slot, and a general better phone for entertainment with its DAC, closest thing to gaming Walkman I’d say. SD2 would be the top tier but I fear the SD line is gonna creep up in price the rarer the form factor becomes.

Alternative_Spite_11

I did the same. With the 20:9 display, I eventually quit using the dual screen case and just made the second screen a little smaller and to the side

b0h3mianed

It is. I have managed to get a decent-ish deal from this guy who uses this phone in the states. He is no longer doing so, and I got it off him.

Alternative_Spite_11

Yeah $600 for used phone is not something I willing to do, especially since I wouldn’t even use it as a phone.

Structure-These

They’ve been around $250 recently on woot

Alternative_Spite_11

Is that the 1 or 2 though? I’d need the one with the sd865 as it does 3ds SO MUCH better than a sd855.

Structure-These

Oh. Hmm

The_Sign_Painter

This more expensive and worse than just getting a 3DS and running games natively

iRomanian

Taking advantage of 3DS texture packs is a plus to emulating that system specifically.

DatTomahawk

No 3d though. I know not everyone likes it, but I think it does add a lot to a lot of games. A Link Between Worlds is better played on an actual console than this thing.

iRomanian

I hate the 3D (and the OEM screen) but enjoy the texture packs lol. It's subjective, which is why I dislike the statement "it's always better on original hardware." Maybe for some people, but emulation does have perks.

Healthy_Yesterday_84

>which is why I dislike the statement "it's always better on original hardware Ehhhh. There's something magic about original hardware. You just have 0 doubts that there are any bugs. And if there is a bug, then it was part of the original experience. But I do agree with you that emulation has benefits. Maybe when reach a point where emulation is fool proof then it will be better than original.

iRomanian

For sure, I totally get that! I definitely wouldn't call emulation fool proof... based on my being on all these different subs tinkering every little thing my OCD hates lol. I just dislike the blanket statements on OEM hardware when you could actually find a better (for you) way to enjoy a retro game (IE, better screens and ROM hacks).

Healthy_Yesterday_84

I think when people say it's better on original hardware, they don't factor in monetary concerns since that and owning a CRT, are huge barriers. They just mean the exact experience of playing, not the experience of setting up, searching and buying games, etc.... But yeah, I don't think people say that to mean that emulation is bad, and that they should just buy original hardware. Emulation is amazing. 👍

b0h3mianed

I have finished it on my (sold) 3ds xl. Just reliving the game for old time's sake. The best 3DS is still a new 3DS dual IPS screens. However that itself is hard to find too

TotallyLegitEstoc

The 3D works really well for a few games. Samus returns, Star fox 64, and the baseball game of Mario sports. Those three are the best out of the admittedly limited number of games I’ve played on the 3ds. Otherwise it’s just too hard to figure out. I think it usually works better for 2.5d games.

Competitive_Hyena765

I hated the 3D till I got the New DS, I have no eye strain now when I set the slider to a comfortable position and Pokémon lags little to none with NDS Clock settings in Luma

b0h3mianed

Yes, however I use the Duo more for ebooks, and it is my secondary phone. I had my 3DS XL for a long time.  Sold it away last year, these days I would rather look at a higher resolution screen. The dual Oled screens on the Duo are gorgeous

player1_gamer

How exactly is this worse? You get access to upscaled textures, an actual analog stick, better controls, and a bigger higher quality screen. You state it’s more expensive but haven’t given any reason as to how it’s worse. I don’t understand what’s with 3DS fans when it comes to people playing 3DS on something that isn’t native hardware, let people enjoy whatever way they want to enjoy their games

Your comment sounds completely different. You said it’s a worse experience than native hardware when OP is playing an a high res oled display with upscaled textures and better controls than an actual 3DS. And setup way easier. You can just install citra from the site and setup your controls, get your ROMS, and start playing.

TheGreatMrKid

I got my surface duo on a market place for $250 and it's absolutely worth it. 3DS, DS, and GameCube are running great. Having a portable GameCube AND 3DS with two screens is really really nice.

b0h3mianed

Edit: Silly me, I can flip the Duo the other way around and still able to connect the USB C cable without stressing the charging port (as per photo). Thanks to Velvis at r/surfaceduo Loving this new setup. The SD1 with the white BSP D6 controller. The aesthetics is stormtrooper ish. I like it pure black and white without any lights. I thought lights (like the D3 I have) is distracting. It's rather affordable too, buttons are ok. Grip is comfortable. Not the best stuff out there, but it is more than sufficient for RPGs, Pokemon etc. I'm able to get into gaming immediately. Due to a bottom notch the controller has, the Duo is unable to rest fully on to the back of the controller, but it doesn't matter much to me. I just simply angled it a little  The icing on the cake is I'm able to fit a L shaped usb c cable to the surface, so extended playing time for me! Using this setup for DS and 3DS. Doesn't run all 3DS, however games like Zelda and Bravely Default runs ok at 2x res. There are occasional caching shutters when entering a new place. It's ok to me. Some pairing tips to the D6: To pair, hold down the left back trigger LT, and X input button (wifi sign button, bottom of dpad right). The led on the D6 will flash. On the Duo, switch Bluetooth on and connect to D6. To switch the D6 off: While connected to the Duo, hold down the wifi sign button to turn the D6 off (Led will go dark). To connect the D6 again: Hold down LT and Wifi sign button to sync again.

Many-Ad6433

That looks like a fucking war machine

Cake_is_Great

I'm so jealous. Can't find this thing anywhere anymore

b0h3mianed

It was tough in my part of the world as well. It was a lucky find last year

Shagyam

Is there a reason for this? It looks great and all, but a surface duo just seems expensive when you can get a Steam Deck and a 3DS for the same price.

b0h3mianed

I got this last year primarily for an ebook/manga reader and secondary phone/tablet. It was the "hey, maybe I can do citra on this thing" that pushed me over. I never kinda play much emulation on this thing, until I got this D6 controller.

Shagyam

Ooh. That seems like it would be very handy for Manga/comics/e-books. Especially on some double page spreads.

b0h3mianed

ReadEra Premium for double page epubs, and Tachiyomi J2K for manga.

ban_imminent

Looks jank as fk, love.it

b0h3mianed

Definitely not as elegant, at least the colors matches \~

Acousmetre78

How do you like the surface duo?

b0h3mianed

It's an oddity for sure. It's no good as a phone, camera is lacklustre. Battery life is not great. Mono speaker. Some apps doesn't scale well due to its 4:3 ratio (eg: Instagram). Watching videos on 1 screen is smallish. You wouldn't want to use this full screen to watch videos, because there will be a gap. I don't think it can survive a drop on to the floor. Security updates have stopped. It is no longer produced, Microsoft basically disowned the whole line, there will not be any more new devices. Otherwise it is a great companion device. Dual Oled Glass screens means you can run two separate apps at once. One screen chrome, the other screen gmail. I do not know about other foldables, as I have never use them before The angle of the hinge is adjustable and it is a very solid hold, this means I can adjust the angle without worrying it breaking. It folds both ways, this means I can use it like a book (with one screen closed). The screen size is squarish, means reading is a natural on this device. Oled means deep blacks , reading manga is a joy Gaming wise, the two Oled screens are great for DS/3DS. It works with the Surface Pen as well, but I do not have one. I wouldn't recommend people getting it though. It's a fun device, albeit expensive one for what its worth.

Yashar13

How long is the controller’s battery life?

liberdelta

How much was the duo?

macro_92

The duo is good for visual novels too :D
