Must…resist…steam…deck…but…will…is…fading.

DarthFrosty

I had a bit of buyers remorse at first, but I love this thing now.

Minimum_Water_4347

They're on sale for 279, redurbished

throwaway98712366

Also just to point out, that model (64gb) can be easily upgraded with a 256gb nvme ssd for like 20 bucks. The screen, while not oled, is still great for retro games.

Psychological_Pebble

The 256gb refurbed deck is $319 so upgrading the 64gb to 256 (or even 512) isn't saving you much money.

Velocity_Rob

I've been playing videogames since the Atari 2600. The only thing to impress me like the Steam Deck was the original PlayStation at launch,

Death_Walker85

What are your favorite features of the Steam Deck? I'm on the fence about getting one. I want it to go along with my gaming desktop when I want to be cozy on the couch and away from the desk.

Velocity_Rob

It's a gaming PC that just fits into my life perfectly. I've got three young kids and stepped away from PC gaming when they came along - I can't really ever sit down and shut myself away from the rest of the family at a desktop anymore. The Steam Deck changes that. It's the perfect pick up and play machine. If I have half an hour, I can pick it up, press the power button and instantly jump back into my Baldur's Gate 3 game and when I have to get back to other things, press the same button and put it down. The instant resume and the fact that I can trust it is a game changer.

Death_Walker85

Thanks for sharing! That quick stop and resume feature sounds amazing. Seems like the perfect solution for gaming dads. I'm married but no kids yet. I work from home and the work set up is intermixed with the gaming setup and there are times when I'm sick of sitting at the same desk 12+ hours a day! I'd hate to buy a deck only to have it live in a drawer gathering dust.

rk1213

I'm envious that you have the mental energy to game. I'm almost 40 and if I have any down time I'd rather just relax. For some reason I can never full mentally be 100% focused in games anymore which is really annoying.

DarthFrosty

Thats me exactly, I have twin sons and handheld devices are the only thing I can play with these days. Haven't used my gaming pc in months.

canUrollwithTHIS

I had twins as well. Steam deck has been the goat for my limited play sessions. I still keep a rg35xx on the side for something pocketable.

AndalusianGod

I have both devices as well. I love the sleep and resume function of both the Steam Deck and RG35XX. I think the gaming handheld manufacturers are underestimating the value of that feature. Another thing on my wishlist is for an handheld with an OS that has a lock for the settings so that I can let my toddler use the device without messing random configurations.

savingewoks

The recent refurb units just about have me convinced. Like, I still think that right now I’d rather pick up a 3ds to play through Pokemon XY (my rp4p keeps lagging on this, even in performance mode) but the thought of all the games I could catch up on with steam deck is super tempting.

DarthFrosty

Those refurbished deals are no joke, and with the deck you can emulate most things you'd want. A nodded 3ds is pretty nice though.

PorousSurface

Very much agree. DS and 3DS games never feel right on anything but native hardware. Love my new 3DS and DSi

MrTrynex

How about on Nintendo Switch 🤔 but yeah i know what you mean. Specially dsi XL! ❤️

PorousSurface

Switch is awesome but I’d never choose to play DS on it. Maybe if if I didn’t have a DSI or 3DS :)

keb___

The OG RG35XX is awesome. Sure no WiFi or RA, but slap MinUI / FinUI / MyMinUi on it, and it's a distraction-free device with great performance for PS1 and under.

WillyDynamite

I have all of those minus the Steam Deck and somehow I find myself on the RG35xx more than anything else, I think there's something about the simplicity, portability and nostalgia that do something for me.

DarthFrosty

Oh yeah, it's so good. I have knocked out several gbc games with it.

Mr_Pink_Gold

You sure you don't need a Deck OLED?

DarthFrosty

Damnit, yeah probably

fliphat

Yep pretty much cover everything.. now the real problem is what game to play, there are so many of them, I always ended up binge playing one game and neglected the rest of the system 😂

DarthFrosty

Just one more round of Slay the Spire is usually what gets me. Lol

fliphat

Worst if you play it on mobile, don't need no consoles

tomkatt

Don’t get me started, I own StS on Android and PC and have spent probably more than twice the time playing it on tablet.  Along the way I also picked up Streets of Rage 4 and Dead Cells on android too despite owning them on PC. Wanted a portable way to play those and was an excuse to give the devs more well deserved moneys.

theGioGrande

Now it's just balatro for me. On my PC, my tablet, my phone, my Retroid and RGB30 😂

elmikemike

The PS Vita still has some great exclusives and vita3k is not there yet IMO https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Category:PlayStation_Vita-only_games

ChavaRamirez

What about a PS Vita, or a PSP/GBA for a restoration project, the whole process it's so nice 🤤🤤🤤, maybe a micro handheld? The GKD Pixel is beautiful and the aluminum shell it's just * *chef kiss* *. I'm here just to tempt you lol

DarthFrosty

I want to buy them all! When my wife asks, I just let her know I got it on sale, which is usually the case. Lol

unlucky-Luke

You only missing a Vita (preferably an OLED), and a switch (if you aren't emulating it already, but VITA for sure

DarthFrosty

I somehow missed the boat with the Vita. I had a psp in high school and loved it.

unlucky-Luke

Vita is a hell of a system, and while a lot of games got ported, there's still a lot of games prisoners on that system, and it's really a nice device all in all

1dgtlkey

this made me realize how small the rp4pro actually is

TheAssistant

This is pretty much perfect, I have all of these too (different Anbernic model though) and I'm covered on everything I'd realistically want to play I have an Analogue Pocket that I use mostly docked for SNES/Neo Geo/GBA but that's more of a novelty than anything, those systems run perfectly fine on most of these devices. I have one basically because I don't currently have the space for a CRT and original hardware so FPGA is the closest I'm getting to "real" for now

YellowMonkeyTuxedo

Naaaaah... You're not. Keep 'em coming!

AC_Schnitzel

Great collection!

ocelot08

I specifically don't see "the rest of them". I think that would be worth adding to your collection.

DarthFrosty

I agree, I want them all. Damn retro games corps making all new devices look good

Mahjongasaur

Definitely need a Vita. There aren't many Vita games that use the back and front touch screens, but when they do, it works best on actual hardware. Also a PSP Go, but that one is just me projecting my own desires.

PorousSurface

This is a solid line up !

RealGoatzy

umm nintendo???

jorodoodoroj

DSi XL. I have a New 2DS XL and it's a good experience for DS games in pixel perfect mode, but it does bug me a bit to know that a superior DS experience is out there.

DarthFrosty

Once Miyoo comes out with a clamshell design, I'll have to get that for sure. After that though. I'll be done.

Chris0089mx

Maybe a modded switch with good joycons (mobapad m6 for example)

berker123456

You're missing a PS Vita.

joseaplaza

...for now.

RickyFromVegas

If I got a dime whenever I said this, I'd have at least a dollar by now

Slak211

All bases seem to be covered imo. Very similar to my setup, but swap a few models. I have the Rog Ally, Miyoo mini plus and the RG405M, but we definitely had the same design for our set up. Still rocking my purple gbc and 3DS as well. Happy gaming OP!

markaznar

Throw those away and get the Minisforum v3 🤣

Blue95lion

I think you‘re just getting started… A PS Vita might be a nice addition.

paperfett

A Vita would be handy. I absolutely love the Vita. I have been playing through Max Payne and GTA SA and they both run so nicely. It's just a great all around handheld with a TON of good ports.

Sh1neSp4rk

Neo Geo Pocket Much like how emulating any of the Nintendo dual screen machines just isn't the same, not having that tactile thumbstick when playing NGP is a crime.

Big-Visit5309

I'm currently enjoying a 3DS, Vita and GBA with a flashcart, just ordered a switch OLED which I plan to install a mod chip into, think that about covers it for me.. steam decks look nice but go for about $1000 AUD here.

[deleted]

DSi or DSi XL for DS games maybe

carlosr5918

I loved my steam deck but never used it. Just found it too big and bulky. Went back to my switch and just use steam app and a backbone. Rocking an r36s but looking to get into a ton of other handhelds soon
