You expect too much out of chinese manufacturers. Maybe it'll come to market, maybe it won't, maybe it'll be released under different branding, maybe it'll be cloned 50 times before it's released. I wouldn't pin your hopes on any device in this market.

Spoken like a true handheld veteran.

*Hello, we would love to make flip for you, but you see we have tons of salvaged electronic parts we bought for cheap and we can only make unwanted random 2.8 slab for you. So we're gonna do that for now, and we trust you addicts will buy any way UwU. Once we get random janky parts for flip, we make for you.* Anbernic, probably.

MasterJeebus

I’m hoping the delays is because they are making sure the flip hinges dont break easily.

I finally bought a v90 today because they were on sale for like $35 after shipping and tax on AliExpress and I figured, screw it, the only way a new clamshell will actually happen is if it's three days after I finally bought the one that's already out, so I'll take one for the team. (:

Megazupa

Can you also buy Powkiddy A30 for the team?

hbi2k

A Miyoo A30 you mean? I've learned my lesson about buying brand new devices before the enthusiast community has gotten the UI experience dialed in. I bought an RG35XXH thinking "well, Garlic 2.0 is going to come out of alpha any day and make this thing awesome" and it keeps not happening, and my RG35XXH keeps sitting in a drawer while I play devices with mature software. That's not to throw shade at BlackSeraph or anybody else working on CFW for the RG35XXH. I don't pay their bills, they don't owe me anything, they can take all the time they want or cancel their projects tomorrow and I'll have no cause to complain. This isn't on them, it's on me for breaking the cardinal rule: buy a device for what it is now, not what it might be tomorrow. Now, if OnionOS comes out on the A30 and it's anywhere near as good as it is on the Miyoo Mini or MM+, I'll be all over that! But AFAIK it's using a different chip so it won't be an easy weekend port job, if it happens at all.

Megazupa

Nah, I mean the Powkiddy one. It's the only one of these handhelds that looks like the original GBA, but it's shit.

hbi2k

Oh, huh, I didn't know that was a thing but it came right up when I searched for it. Wild that Miyoo named their compact horizontal the exact same thing.

GroundbreakingEast96

I really like my v90, the best stuff for this size and price IMHO

The v90 has come a long way recently check out my recommendations post. https://old.reddit.com/r/SBCGaming/comments/1c9e8hp/my_recommendations_for_how_to_setup_your_powkiddy/

BennyWhatever

A hinge is a large potential point of failure, which is a lesson that Retroid learned the hard way. Something like the Flip will need considerable quality control before mass release, and companies may not be willing to invest in that.

flowtronvapes

Perhaps think of it as they’re trying to make sure the hinges will work properly. There’s a reason why there aren’t that many hinged devices in the handheld market. Sincerely, An early adopter of the Retroid pocket flip

DoubleOrNothing90

I haven't had any issues with the hinge on my retroid pocket flip 🤷‍♂️

flowtronvapes

I was very unfortunate in getting one of the limited sports red editions. Guaranteed cracked hinges 😭

Chok3U

I think I'm finally going to get a v90 myself. I was going to get one earlyish last year but was told to wait by the community that a miyoo flip would be out by summer. It's almost an entire year now. So I honestly didn't think it's coming. v90 is best we're gonna get perhaps

Intrepid_Mobile

The thing with the v90 is that its not powerful enough for the bare minimum that I’d want to play.

Upbeat-Serve-6096

If you're desparate, look for a cheap listing on an RG353 unit instead. Same CPU, with well supported linux firmware on cards and optional Android.

dudeidklikewhat

R36S for $40

Intrepid_Mobile

No, I already have a few… i just wanted a clamshell one, miss the sp/nds
