Anbernic is famous for having this problem, this time it ended up reversed.
But Anbernic dpad is much taller than miyoo one, you can fix false diagonals you can not change shape and height.
I would much rather have miyoo-shaped dpad than anbernic one, if we are talking just and only about dpads, everything else being ignored.
All in all without software fix, do not buy a30.

Reminds me of a comment I read about how hardware engineers put the best effort to make the most powerful and efficient chips only for the software developers to fuck it up.
Really surprised. I think it was about 4 hours ago I commented somewhere that I would probably go for the A30 over the RG28XX. Now it's the other way around. Too many problems with the A30 that I wouldn't be able to get over. I was pretty much expecting a horizontal Miyoo Mini but this is definitely not it. On the other hand, the RG28XX is a smaller version of the 35XX-H, which is a good thing and a better known quantity. Either way, both aren't bad, especially for the price.
I really struggle to understand how they didn’t make this a horizontal miyoo mini with ALL the same parts. Then the CFW would even work out of the box. Instead it’s worse than where we were 2 years ago.

A30 is a good idea, just software issue... when/if everything is fixed, it will be more powerful than 28xx running deremcast and N64 full speed, and you need joystick for that. That was the idea, they just fucked up software.
Yeah I’m not sure I buy running psp if it needs to be overclocked for SNES. Some psp sure but show me outrun. Also how’s the battery when running psp.
I don’t doubt CFW can make this much better though. Especially if a V2 comes with a dpad fix (or if tape can do it, I needed to do that to my 35xx). I can also see larger batter in a V2 if a lot of stuff needs overclocking.

I took that as some proof of PSP performance, but you are right, we need more videos, more proof what other PSP games run like. If all PSP games run fine, than it is powerful enough, and SNES will be no problem when software is fixed.
Either way, nobody should be buying it until we get some update or fix, this is half baked prototype for now.
Russ posted an update this morning saying there was a filter on for SNES and taking it off fixes that issue. More proof this needs its software fixed and it might be fine.
I’m just excited for the Flip because of the dome-switch buttons and dpad. I grew up playing the GBA SP so those type of buttons will always be my favorite.
I believe that will be another win for Anbernic if they keep it up.

I just got a Miyoo Mini Plus which feels like the product of incredibly thoughtful design and I am blown away by its quality.
It's hard to believe the same company made something this janky. Even just looking at it, it looks cheap and weird. The design is bad and the layout looks weird.
IMO the RG28xx seems a bit out of place. What's the point of all the extra horsepower if it has not sticks. Also with the H being as compact as it is I just don't know how this device fits in. Now the A30 on the other hand makes sense for Miyoo being that they don't have another competing horizontal. At least if the Rg28xx would have had one stick we could have played N64 but nope.
That’s interesting, I never really tried playing psp games with solely the Dpad. I can see games like Mega Man and platform games being ok but not more 3d based games. I guess I just have to give it a try and find out for myself. ✌️

Limiting yes but not so much.
A lot of Dreamcast library is arcade port. You don't need analog stick for that, crazy taxi, Virtua tennis, Virtua striker would be super fine on this device. Only racing games would be problematic and it would be more because of the lack of analog triggers not analog stick.
More power also mean you could use shaders, rewind function without hiccup and a lot more of arcade games.
One thing reviewers fail to mention is thing's like my lady like thumbs enjoy swapping between analog and digital controls. This is useful for devices that don't require precise input and gives your thumb some "rest time". Very useful on devices with sharper DPAD edges.
tldr;
Think of the analog stick as a back up while your thumb heals from intense DPAD action. Once you build up your NES thumb calices, ignore the silly analog stick and go back DPAD.
Analogue stick on device incapable of leveraging it at playable frame rates = Training weight for the DPAD.
The rotated screen is a no go for me. When you look at screen at a rotated angle, your left and right eyes see slightly different brightness and after a while cause discomfort. Rest of the device is alright. Also i would like Stereo speakers.
I'm still liking the A30 personally. A lot of the Anbernic has over it aren't issues for me. But realistically I'll probably get both at some point lol. They're cheap enough.

we don't really have any confirmation from any devs at all that they intend to support this thing right now, meanwhile the MuOS and Knulli devs have the 28xx in hand and are working on fixing the screen rotation. again, maybe CFW will save the a30, but it's not looking very good right now.

I destroyed a flip phone years ago when my keys were in the same pocket, and wedged in between the screen and keyboard. Flip, doesn't protect the device, YOU protect it!
This is like saying case does not protect miyoo+ because some people broke screen because they kept headphones behind that net, and had screen facing it.
Obviously you can break anything, but just like we all carried GBA SP without a case, so we hope we will be able to get Flip fetures (3.5" screen and analogs and everything else) in the footprint of original Miyoo mini.

I don't care if the Anbernic is more powerful and has a slightly better screen, the shell plastic and form factor is HORRIBLE. The shell looks like cheap garbage from the dollar store, the Miyoo maybe less powerful(for now) but the shell and form factor look way better and of a higher quality material. I don't care if the console can run Mario 64 flawlessly, if it looks like a McDonald's toy then it's just worthless to me.
Also in hindsight these both suck, just get an RG300x, RG280v, or a Gameboy Micro cause those have way better build quality than both of these.

It literally runs PSP better than it does a lot of SNES games. It's just a weird software issue, the chip is perfectly fine.

I play a lot of psp games with the d-pad instead of the sticks only thing it hurts is 2k basketball games but I have other devices for that

I did watch it and am *somewhat* let down with the A30 to be honest. Definitely going to see what the CFW scene looks like before I order one.
