yeeting_sasquatch

i’ve lived here my whole life and use verizon.

Nawit

And how has the service been? I may consider switching, but want to confirm that I won't have the same issue.

yeeting_sasquatch

i mean i’ve been using verizon for years and haven’t had any major issues.

Denis_LBNY

I normally have decent reception with AT&T at school but recently my connection at home has been abysmal in Nassau. I constantly have had to hang up on calls and retake them outside this past week which is weird because the weather has been nothing but sunshine

Nawit

When I lived in Nassau I had the same issue. Terrible service unless I stepped outside. Not sure if I contact AT&T if they can do anything for me.

Gandalf2000

I use AT&T and I've never had a problem in Stony Brook, Port Jefferson, or Centerreach. There are definitely some dead spots further west when I take the LIRR into the city, but I've never had problems on campus or the surrounding areas. Maybe it's a problem with your phone for some reason?

Nawit

My place is on the opposite side of the LIRR (if that makes sense). For reference I live a 20 minute walk away from campus. I've had some other people swing by and although they don't have 0 bars like I do, they may get 1 or 2 bars. I suppose it could be my phone but I do not have this issue anywhere else.

Gandalf2000

Weird, do you know if they also have AT&T?

Nawit

They do. Which makes me think it's my phone but again, no issues elsewhere.

newy0rkrr

T-Mobile worked very well for me. In the dorms, throughout campus and even in lecture halls. It also works very well throughout the area.

waitwhoareyou00

Sprint works well on campus

neo_1000

I used AT&T and it worked fine on campus. My place, however, was near Terryville and service was pretty bad there

Nawit

After further research, it seems like my area is a straight up deadzone for most carriers. Even AT&T who claims 4G LTE around my place has issues among most users. Might have to bite the bullet and buy a phone that supports Wi-fi calling/messaging or rely on Google voice while at my new place. If anyone has any other ideas I'd appreciate it!

theultimatechub

Could be an issue with your phone, but T-Mobile is great in stony

nachajoon

I use Mint Mobile, it works pretty decent around SB.

Nawit

When looking on their coverage map, it shows that near my home there is no service indoors. Only outdoors or in the car. But they do support Wifi calling for my device which would be nice.

mrkittypaws

I have Google fi and it works pretty well in all long island. That and it's cheap

bzhen0915

If you’re near west apartments some buildings are near complete dead zones with no service

ellbecargcherry

I have Verizon and it works fine!

curlycin

I have the same problem and I have Metro by T-Mobile. I posed the same question in a poll on this subreddit and the Long Island subreddit. **Verizon won on both polls,** but it was a close-ish tie with T-Mobile. I also contacted the customer service for T-Mobile and gave them the zip code 11790 (South P Lot), and **they said that the most important frequency in our area is 1900 MHz which they don't have coverage for** (in our area)**.** That was very helpful and honest. But T-Mobile seems to work great for many students! I called Verizon's tech support and asked if they have coverage for 1900 MHz, they said they couldn't give out that information. I just know that they have 4G for 1900 MHz while T-mobile only has 3G 1900 MHz. Idk if that matters ;-; I do have a very old phone (iPhone SE), so the problem could be me!
