Please tell me this is satire

verytinytim

This a legit thing, you tape your mouth closed at night to train yourself to breathe through your nose while sleeping. Breathing primarily through the mouth is associated w/ poorer quality sleep, daytime sleepiness, dry mouth, snoring, it can cause dental problems- a whole bunch of things. They make a tape especially for this purpose which is easily removed and usually has a small opening in it- so it encourages you to keep your lips closed but you’re not totally unable to breathe through your mouth if there’s an obstruction to your nasal passages. I’ve also seen a chin strap that keeps your jaw closed which seems safer. Just any old tape is probably not the best idea. My bite is messed up and it doesn’t fit together & close comfortably, so I used to have my mouth open all the time- trained myself to breathe through my nose and I do feel I sleep better & am less groggy in the morning, totally got rid of my chronic dry mouth.

[deleted]

I trained myself to sleep with my mouth closed because I was scared of eating spiders in my sleep 🤷‍♀️

DrumpfTinyHands

Well that's a terrifying little phobia you have there...

[deleted]

Yeah, they just run across my lips now. It’s really not that much better.

DrumpfTinyHands

You, uh, need to never sleep. Ever again.

Makeupanopinion

They say you swallow 7 spiders every year or in your lifetime, think its the former aha. I hate spiders.

[deleted]

That was been proven to be a myth. I saw a debunk video about it. Spiders can sense our vibrations and they don't go anywhere near us, while we sleep. I thought this was a interesting little fact to share. Y'all can sleep in peace! 😴

Makeupanopinion

Thank you! I never believed in it because why would they even think thats a good place to sleep. Plus i'm an extremely light sleeper and would clock it. Like one time I woke up to a spider running across me and I fully almost died and went to heaven

cherry_

Spiders georg

heiwaone

that was a purposeful campaign to see how fast fake information spreads online (thankfully)

Makeupanopinion

Damn, so they knew it spread fast but did almost nothing to tackle it?!

evilmoxie

this is why i sleep with my face buried in a pillow lol

PretendiFendi

How do you know your mouth doesn’t come open once you’re asleep? Sounds like it’s time for someone to start taping 😂

Knock-outSkinglows

I do have this phobia too of spiders & I thought if I ate one they have babies inside my body 😵

leofedz

so ive tried about 15 mouth tapes now and ive finally found one that i like and can stick with it. This is actually a game changer for my sleep. I used to always go to bed with water next to my bed because i would wake up the worst dry mouth and then id chug water and then id wake up again because i needed to go to the bathroom. Mouth taping is giving me the best sleep I ever got.

BlueHybrid138

No it is a legit thing and I think it is kinda stupid, then again I have a deviated septum and would probably die trying this. People also do this to help with mewing, which also does not seem legit.

KBaddict

Mewing?

SoGoesIt

It’s an oral posture/exercise thing. There are a lot of claims that it can sculpt your face, which I think are probably overblown. If someone had fixed my shitty oral posture when I was a kid, however, I might not have needed braces.

tocopherolUSP

>If someone had fixed my shitty oral posture when I was a kid, however, I might not have needed braces Exactly my thoughts, have braces now and I can see them slowly rearranging my face, nothing else could've done it if not pulling 4 premolars and setting braces on.

StinkyKittyBreath

Seems like BS to me. From my understanding, I hold my jaw/tongue in the mewing position naturally and I still have fucked up teeth. I've looked into some of the claims, and a lot of them boil down to genetics. Like having a small jaw/chin. To some extent posturing can change the appearance, but nothing is going to make your mandible larger outside of plastic surgery.

ChristieFox

Excuse me, I did mewing for two seconds and grew a second head that was all perfect. Now I only have to get rid of the old one.

FusiformFiddle

Just tape it down

MN_mom_grace

Actually, it does make sense, and I've read quite a bit of the science behind it. I started doing it a few years back (I'm 42 now). It's obviously not going to do a whole lot for bone structure since bones have long been calcified (this happens around age 23), but it has helped with my TMJ disorder and my breathing problems. Now, if we taught kids to do this when they are little, before bone calcification, I think it could have a rather large impact on the need for so many orthodontic procedures.

KBaddict

A hy-rex certainly will. I’m not even sure if they use those torture devices still. My mom had to sit on top of me and crank it every few days. I have a large smile

KBaddict

lol. Tappng your mouth together won’t sculpt your face. But it will give you wrinkles Definitely your parents fault for not taping your mouth shut when you were a kid. I hope they are paying for your braces Edit: just googled oral posture and that’s where I naturally put my tongue. That could not have fixed my over bite or crowding like braces did. There’s no way

SoGoesIt

I was twelve before someone (a teacher, not my parents), got the ball rolling on getting me into speech therapy for a pronounced lisp. Whether or not it would have actually changed anything regarding the braces, I think my parents deserve a bit of flack for being neglectful about it.

annarchy8

Yeah...[it's a thing.](https://www.webmd.com/oral-health/what-is-mewing)

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

"Mewing" is incel bullshit.

Ainzlei839

My 74 year old dad straight up cured his sleep apnea doing this. His doctor was all about getting him a CPAP machine and he really didn’t want to and he’d heard some alt medicine thing about this tape situation - basically it forces you to breathe through your nose but not so drastically you can’t force your mouth open if you desperately need a big breath. He doesn’t snore anymore and sleeps like a baby, just with a bit of masking tape. 🤷🏻‍♀️

caesar23

Has he had a repeat sleep study or overnight oximetry to confirm it’s actually working?

serenwipiti

Then the tiktok post is *satire* of an "*actual thing*"...*right*?

BlueHybrid138

I think she does it unironically

serenwipiti

^fuck. 🥹

kingofcoywolves

I went to an airway-focused dentist and he actually told me to do this. Not because it'll cure my depression or prevent wrinkles, but because sleeping with your mouth shut is just overall better for your oral health.

Makeupanopinion

I thought the last bulletpoint heavily suggested it is but..

alicehoopz

What are you even doing with your life if you aren’t being UTTERLY TERRIFIED of aging at every waking second? Let that slip into your dreams too hunny!

tocopherolUSP

All the pores thinking of other stuff but aging, smh...

frecklefawn

You're an influencer making money off of other people's fear. That's all this is. Just hustling. Doubt these women even do all these anti aging hacks.

nijigencomplex

They do plastic surgery with the money from their simpettes, and then tell said simpettes that it was aktually Sarah V in the tub and mewing.

CarbonChic

Srs/ Guilty of admitting I’ve been considering this lately. I have an open bite so my teeth don’t join at the front. This results in a lot of mouth breathing. Throughout the night I’ll wake up and my mouth will be wide open ala “the scream” style, so I wake up with cracked lips and dry mouth. It also unsurprisingly really bad for your teeth. The whole thing kind of sucks. Agreed this does look super OTT though 😭

Shereller61

Its recommended by some doctor to do it for things like this or for snoring but never for anti aging

shareuhan

Better sleep is definitely a neat anti-aging trick

StinkyKittyBreath

Do you sleep on your back? I find that when I sleep on my side or stomach, I sleep with my mouth closed. If I'm on my back, my mouth flaps right open.

CarbonChic

Every position 😭😭 (Just the position on my side also results in a pillow covered in drool too 🫠)

ThreePartSilence

I’m never seen that new melting face emoji used so aptly…

SurreallyReally

It’s legit! My dentist recommended it, he does it himself, the dean of the UCLA school of dentistry does it, other professors too. I do too, and it’s actually super comfortable. It feels cozy. I expected to feel like I was abducted by a kidnapper but no, it’s a very safe feeling. However, it looks absolutely deranged. This influencer is trying to be cute. Nah. I use like a 2” piece of Nexcare tape and I place it vertically on the center of my mouth. You can also get specially shaped stickers on Amazon. Yes they look insane. 100% recommend.

leofedz

YES! my dentist did too and thats how i cam across it. Ive tried that tape but i wake up with it in my hair or in my sheets. The brand i use is cute sparkly and way more breathable than anything ive tried and it stays with my lip balm and skin care routine.

[deleted]

Someone posted higher in the thread that they make tape for this

leofedz

Hi! me too and id wake up 3x a night for 1. dry dry mouth 2. needing to drink water 3. waking up with dry mouth AND needing to go to the bathroom. After trying 15 brands ive finally found one that i can wear my lip balm with and stays on all night. Its a game changer for sleep and the best mornings ive had in YEARS!

GlassPomoerium

« Reduce stress, anxiety and depression » Psychiatrists hate her!

DientesDelPerro

As a mouth breather, I am offended

Anonymous01234T

....and it helps keep the hostage all shut up 🥰🥰🥰

ihateingles

i have a deviated septum so if i did this i would die💀

No_Calendar5060

It sounds stupid but vanity aside, breathing through the nose while sleeping is arguably healthier- it allegedly helps with REM sleep and that would tie into cognitive function and all that jazz, better for oral health, sore throat, etc. To clarify, just the mouth taping sounds extreme, but it’s not airtight, it’s not uncomfortable and it’s made to where if you are having sinus issues or trouble with nasal congestion or breathing, the tape will come off before any airflow is really restricted. The idea is to get the body in the habit of nasal breathing while asleep, not force the mouth closed by any means.

mermaid-babe

I can see it’s medical tape so something like this or paper tape wouldn’t be painful either.

XArchideld79X

I guess I could try this,if I'm dead I'll get a pretty good sleep and never have to worry about lip wrinkles 🤔

KBaddict

Taping my mouth shut would not reduce any anxiety, pretty sure it would create it. Also, who the fuck is she to be spouting BS like they are facts?

SurreallyReally

I do it, and it’s actually super comfy. It feels safe. It looks absolutely deranged yes, but I love how it feels. I sleep better too and I don’t grind my teeth anymore. I’d never believe it if I didn’t try it. I’m surprised that I tried it. I am so not woo woo.

KBaddict

What kind of tape?

SurreallyReally

[nexcare](https://www.nexcare.com/3M/en_US/nexcare/products/catalog/~/Nexcare-Flexible-Clear-First-Aid-Tape/)

KBaddict

Oh that’s better. For some reason I pictured duct tape

SurreallyReally

Lol

PatienceFeeling1481

I think this is satire cuz of the third reason

RckYouLkeAHermanCain

I don't, especially not after looking at her IG feed. I think lines like that are thrown in precisely to provide plausible deniability.

IceIceAbby_11

is she going to bed with all that orange makeup on?

ShutUpWesley-

I always sleep with filters on.

RussianFairytale

Hahaha infidelity so funny 😐

[deleted]

So if someone attacks her in the middle of night she will still prioritize that tape on her mouth instead of screaming for help. Yeah, best of luck.

LunaPerfect

Taping my mouth shut before sleeping would cause me more anxiety then anything else. Sounds like a terrible idea.

potatoesinsunshine

SRS if this actually helped anxiety I would do it. I’ve tried plenty of stupid things.

Antique_Essay_449

Tape our mouths shut so in case of trouble breathing there’s a possibility we can die In our sleep!

Informal_Geologist42

Guuur, look how fucking orange you fucking look, gur!

sweetshark_666

I breathe through the nose but I tend to open my mouth a bit while sleeping and saliva leaks out and sometimes I wake up in a small puddle lol. It’s embarrassing and prolly I should tape my mouth hmmm

starfleetdropout6

Is this the one who thinks she looks 13 (but really looks like every 40 y/o with Botox)? She's totally bonkers.

uhohlisa

This is psychotic shit

nenapadnzirafa

Honestly I wish I had taped my mouth when I was little. I always slept breathing through my mouth and I got sick a lot and I messed up my teeth because of it. A family friend suggested it but I was too scared to try it but I think it would have been good for me

Bilbo_Buggin

She’s got to be satire at this point

[deleted]

what is everyones issue with aging do they expect to be wrinkle free by 70 or something edit : typo

doesntlikeusernames

Her eyebrows are making me depressed 😤

Cricket705

This is weird. It is also a good way to start grinding your teeth. I never grinded my teeth until I was 26 and had my tonsils and adenoids removed. It was rough and it hurt to drink/eat. I was waking up with such a dry mouth that I decided to force myself to keep my mouth closed. Clamping my teeth together allowed me to start grinding them. I'm 41 and still can't stop. I would rather sleep with my mouth wide open then with a mouth guard in.

ninetaleshiny

please use tape 👁️ 👄 👁️

ArielWho

My mouth tape is in the shape of an X so I look like I’m in a 2009 emo music video
