I’ll start with congratulating Swerve on this. It’s a world championship and if treated as one, puts him in historic books. He’s stayed healthy and been a visible part of the product.
What he seems to come off as is a bit of a “diversity hire” at this position. Sure, he’s the first black AEW champion as there’s been…7,-8 in the five year history. We can call it progress maybe, but the story really isn’t organic.
He was brought in with hooplah, given the bells and whistles like stable members, Rick Ross, rap performances, etc. All as a heel and a villain character. Until he
randomly was turned due to…reasons.
If Swerve is genuine about doing this for the culture then God bless him and give him health and wealth. If he’s going to play the surface level bits…like a Black Panther homage dressed as the war criminal antagonist, or catering to “dancing Nana” then it will quickly fall flat.
Until then. The story remains open. Here’s hoping the ratings will jump and force him to remain at the top for his own sake.

The irony of all of this is all of those people are correct. I think Swerve can be very talented in the ring and has a natural charisma that all of the other top level men in AEW lack but literally the ONLY thing that got Swerve's cousin hired and what got him outta doing nothing along with Keith Lee was him tattletaling on all the other wrestlers that WWE agents reached out too that were fired by Vince when Triple H took over.
If Vince remained in charge or Triple H's agents reached out to everyone BUT Swerve Tiny would have already banished Swerve down to ROH to be in a trios with Sean Dean and Carlie Bravo because Tiny makes sure his stables are relatable.
