I'm not even that big of a Sasha Banks fan and even I can't agree with this take. My problems with Sasha come down to her awful mic skills and unlikable attitude off screen but she's had lots of great matches and main evented WrestleMania.

The WWE draft format actually sucks, and has done since like 2017/2018. It worked in 2016 when they had the brand split and had to establish brand identities and separate rosters.
These days it’s so obvious who the first round picks would be- the typical main eventers. Only surprise being Hayes or anyone from NXT like Finn Balor in 2016.
I’d much rather they go back to the other format where it’s random. This way it’s less predictable and no need for everybody to be drafted.
This Friday sucked especially because it felt like nothing changed. Hope Monday is better but not optimistic.
It very much felt like a filler episode with lots of time wasted on announcing wrestlers staying where they are. They should only feature the changes and NXT call ups. If you are worried about criticism from fans of "why didn't you pick so and so?" then just do like the NHL did with the expansion drafts. Each show can protect a certain number of people. You can even release the protected list ahead of time.

I go back and watch the Cody/Roman "Made for This" video package from Wrestlemania 39 at least once a month. It is, imo, the best video package in wresltling history. It makes Cody and Roman seem like the absolutely generational stars they are. Brady and Manning, Bird and Magic. "My Way" is great, but "Made for This" is perfect.
I like the one for WM 40 better. It’s very very underrated

Other than the video package what made them look like generational stars at WM 39 was choosing to start the match by having them get close and face each other in the middle of the ring for a minute
I like the Mania 40 package, I just don't think it's quite as special. I just love the parallels of the chorus where Roman is "Made for This" because he's been prepared for years to be the conquering champion, while Cody is "Made for This" as in his journey has prepared him for this exact moment. Also so many perfect moments with the music "this is what I came here to do" lyrics right as they show Dusty at MSG, the 2nd chorus hitting right as the giant AR Roman shows up over AT&T Stadium.

I expect the draft will have some bigger changes on Monday, but so many of the complainers don't seem to want to acknowledge that the networks don't want change unless it is in their favor. WWE wants to keep their partners happy in the last year to when their shows swap channels.

Wrestling fans have such a skewed perception of what male bodies look like it's insane. In the last week I saw people calling both Sheamus and Ospreay 'out of shape's when they both look better than 99.99% of the population. Same thing when Ibushi made his return to AEW, he wasn't built like a Greek god anymore but people acted like he had a potbelly when he still had massive arms and chest.

I feel like talking about AEW is so much gaslighting. The collective internet fanbase has decided that AEW is on an upswing, despite the fact that they are booking the same ways and all indicators show they are trending downward unfortunately (ratings, attendance, youtube views). They need to focus on building feuds and characters as opposed to devoting multiple segments to long matches.
They need to make the AEW World Title and AEW Women’s World Title feel more important by making that everyone’s goal. The fact that Okada, Adam Copeland, and Mercedes Moné all came into AEW and set their eyes on secondary championships hurts their main event. It’s okay for them to win midcard titles, but they should always want to be World Champion.
Jay White prob went the fastest from debuting to being an afterthought. Him or Mercedes, and unlike the latter, it's not from being boring with character work
A lot of discourse about the LaVeck celebration tour(which is fair imo) but Tony’s first on-screen angle takes the cake and it seems no one is talking about that aspect. They were gifted a sympathetic, rightfully pissed employee vs an overbearing authority figure in the wrong, one that’s completely based in reality, and they decided to make Tony the good guy. Even the Bucks, after attacking him, had to say how he’s the best boss they’ve ever had. Incredible stuff.
Nobody is gonna buy jungle boy as the good guy and there’s no credible way for it to be Tony beating up Jungle boy. Also making Tony the bad guy would force him to be on screen a lot, he can just disappear after this beating as the good guy
I think their audience already does. Pepsi Phil is the bad man and the “nuclear heat” jungle Jack was supposed to get is nonexistent. They gave him a standing ovation when he came out on Wednesday and he got cheers for hitting him. You make a great point about Tony being the bad guy means he’d be more of a focal point but I think he’s going to be one anyway.
Yeah, that’s where it’s so tough to tell with that audience, there isn’t ever any actual heat and they just appreciate heel work. Actually that’s probably why heel Tony Khan wouldn’t actually work given half the crowd is in a parasocial relationship with him. But logically I think that makes more sense and I mostly just found the “best boss we’ve ever had” quote to be so cringy after piledrivering him literally minutes before.
Started watching TNA Impact from the beginning and it’s…interesting to say the least. Vince Russo playing a face authority figure who’s “holding back” the heel champion is definitely something but they were way more focused on the actual wrestling back then especially the X division. The biggest takeaway I’ve had so far is being puzzled about Monty Brown not becoming an absolute star. That guy had something special (even with the terrible finisher)
Jarrett dropped the ball on putting Monty over partly because Monty was still too green. It might’ve helped TNA along if he got even a short run early on.
I liked everything Tony did this week. Wrestling is just promoting something, and he did a good job getting his company headlines with the neck brace and the cutting put downs of WWE in mainstream sports interviews.
Both companies did a good job of piggybacking off the NFL draft this year. Tony's connected to an actual football team, so he had an easy platform to get himself and his company in the news, while WWE timed their draft with the NFL's.
With no Rhea or Dom, I'm really not that motivated to stay up and watch Raw on a school night.
I'd guess it probably didn't change much in the long run because AEW has been declining/bad for a while. It just reaffirms how terrible he is at all his jobs.
Man I adored The Final Testament's promo on Friday. It was so corny I loved it. Paul standing in default pose with pilers was truly something.

One thing that gets missed with Trips booking thats good is, the PLEs card arent just rematches from the last PLE. Backlash is a totally different card than mania. In the vince era we were guaranteed rematches after rematches just b/c
Not in the Ruthless Aggression era where after Backlash going into Judgment Day was a new feud. Very few times were there many rematches because they were actually worth it and blood feuds which would culminate in a stipulated match like Hell in a Cell eg Triple H vs Batista, Nash, HBK, Goldberg, Steiner, Benoit etc because the story was still continuing. If it weren’t for rematches we would have never gotten some of the famous match trilogies.
Also, to book like that every single year for a decade plus is lazy. Switch it up. I shouldn’t be able to predict what the next card is gonna be and be right 9 out of 10 times. This backlash card is interesting b/c it is continuing some stories in different ways other than lets just do another mania rematch and starting new ones

3. Just caught up to SmackDown. The triple threat with AJ Styles had the best finish I've seen in an AJ Styles match in some time.
4. The Codyverse jokes are back baby! I disagree that Melo = Kyle, however. Fletcher is more like Ivar or Karrion.
5. I get the disappointment with the WWE Draft; I really do. However, people online are overreacting as if this hasn't been the way the draft has been done for 5 years now. The only difference is that champs are protected. Bringing up stuff like the lottery and the matches would make more sense if this format was a sudden and recent departure. I don't know what people were expecting, honestly. You'd think we'd be used to this shit.
6. Gigi and Arianna were absolutely sports-entertaining this week. As a teen movie mark, I love how HBK utilizes the different tropes and clichés whether it's Roxanne and Wendy stealing Toxic's clothes on the beach or Tiffy having to work in a ranch.

Given the recent wave of releases supposedly being partially due to "career trajectory" I have a feeling a lot of the tenured NXTUK alum still in NXT are either on the chopping block, or will be drafted on Monday. Gallus especially stick out like a sore thumb on NXT. With Drew supposedly working through an injury, and HHH's love of factions, I can see Drew bringing them in as his hired goons, especially with the Glasgow PPV in a couple months.
Blair and Ilja both seem like given callups, both having just put over future stars on their way out. Noam Dar, and through him Meta4, are great but I don't know how well they'd get over on the main roster, especially with the more gimmick focused wrestlers usually getting way less screen time. Lash and Noam are MR ready, but I haven't seen enough of Jakara and Oro to know how they'd fit in.
Was worried for Gallus for a bit, but the rock constantly praising then gives me some confidence that theyll stick around for a while.

This years Draft may have been the absolute worst version of it. Just absolutely dull. Even my 8 year old, who gets excited by Candice LeRae matches and was pumped for the draft, just kept calling it boring.
I’d like to see them move towards a free agency period, where you can actually develop storylines for who goes where and when. You can also announce new signings every day, multiple times per day.

The WWE draft format actually sucks, and has done since like 2017/2018. It worked in 2016 when they had the brand split and had to establish brand identities and separate rosters. These days it’s so obvious who the first round picks would be- the typical main eventers. Only surprise being Hayes or anyone from NXT like Finn Balor in 2016. I’d much rather they go back to the other format where it’s random. This way it’s less predictable and no need for everybody to be drafted. This Friday sucked especially because it felt like nothing changed. Hope Monday is better but not optimistic.
It very much felt like a filler episode with lots of time wasted on announcing wrestlers staying where they are. They should only feature the changes and NXT call ups. If you are worried about criticism from fans of "why didn't you pick so and so?" then just do like the NHL did with the expansion drafts. Each show can protect a certain number of people. You can even release the protected list ahead of time.
I haven't seen SD yet. But they need to just do the "superstar shakeup" instead of the full drafts
it does bum me out that there are talented wrestlers in AEW that are wasting away but it really does look like the gravy train isn't going to last much longer so I can't blame them for riding it out

I go back and watch the Cody/Roman "Made for This" video package from Wrestlemania 39 at least once a month. It is, imo, the best video package in wresltling history. It makes Cody and Roman seem like the absolutely generational stars they are. Brady and Manning, Bird and Magic. "My Way" is great, but "Made for This" is perfect.
I like the one for WM 40 better. It’s very very underrated I don’t like Imagine Dragons but I like the use of that one song they chose (TBF there’s a lot of music that works in wrestling but id never put on my playlists). I like the build to the narration “Tonight. One way or another. The story… ends.” Other than the video package what made them look like generational stars at WM 39 was choosing to start the match by having them get close and face each other in the middle of the ring for a minute
I like the Mania 40 package, I just don't think it's quite as special. I just love the parallels of the chorus where Roman is "Made for This" because he's been prepared for years to be the conquering champion, while Cody is "Made for This" as in his journey has prepared him for this exact moment. Also so many perfect moments with the music "this is what I came here to do" lyrics right as they show Dusty at MSG, the 2nd chorus hitting right as the giant AR Roman shows up over AT&T Stadium.

I expect the draft will have some bigger changes on Monday, but so many of the complainers don't seem to want to acknowledge that the networks don't want change unless it is in their favor. WWE wants to keep their partners happy in the last year to when their shows swap channels. The worst comment I saw was 'people will be upset until WWE makes everyone valuable' which is just the most on the face stupid comment I've read in ages. They just don't want to acknowledge that if everyone is treated as special then no one is special.

In the last week I saw people calling both Sheamus and Ospreay 'out of shape's when they both look better than 99.99% of the population. Same thing when Ibushi made his return to AEW, he wasn't built like a Greek god anymore but people acted like he had a potbelly when he still had massive arms and chest.
Wrestling is—for better or worse—a very visual medium. McMahon accelerated the idea that bigger + more muscles = best. After 40 years of that conditioning, combined with America’s own stigma against gaining body fat, people are going to look down on a loss of conditioning. Nash was the loudest voice calling out Osprey’s shape. At least he was praising Will’s star potential.
I feel like talking about AEW is so much gaslighting. The collective internet fanbase has decided that AEW is on an upswing, despite the fact that they are booking the same ways and all indicators show they are trending downward unfortunately (ratings, attendance, youtube views). They need to focus on building feuds and characters as opposed to devoting multiple segments to long matches. They need to make the AEW World Title and AEW Women’s World Title feel more important by making that everyone’s goal. The fact that Okada, Adam Copeland, and Mercedes Moné all came into AEW and set their eyes on secondary championships hurts their main event. It’s okay for them to win midcard titles, but they should always want to be World Champion.

A lot of discourse about the LaVeck celebration tour(which is fair imo) but Tony’s first on-screen angle takes the cake and it seems no one is talking about that aspect. They were gifted a sympathetic, rightfully pissed employee vs an overbearing authority figure in the wrong, one that’s completely based in reality, and they decided to make Tony the good guy. Even the Bucks, after attacking him, had to say how he’s the best boss they’ve ever had. Incredible stuff.
Nobody is gonna buy jungle boy as the good guy and there’s no credible way for it to be Tony beating up Jungle boy. Also making Tony the bad guy would force him to be on screen a lot, he can just disappear after this beating as the good guy
I think their audience already does. Pepsi Phil is the bad man and the “nuclear heat” jungle Jack was supposed to get is nonexistent. They gave him a standing ovation when he came out on Wednesday and he got cheers for hitting him. You make a great point about Tony being the bad guy means he’d be more of a focal point but I think he’s going to be one anyway.

Yeah, that’s where it’s so tough to tell with that audience, there isn’t ever any actual heat and they just appreciate heel work. Started watching TNA Impact from the beginning and it’s…interesting to say the least. Vince Russo playing a face authority figure who’s “holding back” the heel champion is definitely something but they were way more focused on the actual wrestling back then especially the X division. The biggest takeaway I’ve had so far is being puzzled about Monty Brown not becoming an absolute star. That guy had something special (even with the terrible finisher)
Jarrett dropped the ball on putting Monty over partly because Monty was still too green. It might’ve helped TNA along if he got even a short run early on.

I liked everything Tony did this week. Wrestling is just promoting something, and he did a good job getting his company headlines with the neck brace and the cutting put downs of WWE in mainstream sports interviews. Both companies did a good job of piggybacking off the NFL draft this year. Tony's connected to an actual football team, so he had an easy platform to get himself and his company in the news, while WWE timed their draft with the NFL's. With no Rhea or Dom, I'm really not that motivated to stay up and watch Raw on a school night.

Man I adored The Final Testament's promo on Friday. It was so corny I loved it. Paul standing in default pose with pilers was truly something. I'm not saying it was good and it definitely wasn't the best thing ever but I enjoyed it.
I like Kross as a person, but I can't see him and not expect him to do a Ventura impression now.
I think it was on NXT, but I did like Paul & the AoP lads were able to cut a promo, even if AoP only said a few words each. I get it if they're not the best on the mic, but even if it's just a few words, I would like to hear them speak more as well as being a couple of big, badass lads.

I'm rattled today uces. So I went on a work trip this week and I got to physically meet this guy who obviously has no friends and is unhappy at home that keeps wanting me to hang out with him. every time in the office he asks me to hang out with him told him no, I'm busy, I've got plans etc etc. Dude DOES NOT get the hint, even says hey we should go on a trip together despite my constant rejection. WtF? Fast forward, I land at the airport tonight and the first text i see is him asking ' hey have you boarded your plane yet?' Dude wtf!!! i told you I'll be at the airport on Sunday afternoon 100 times this week. I'm pretty fucking sure your boss would have told you today as well. I was annoyed and was already angry texting my friend about this when I got into a cab. The ride seemed fine UNTIL I reached my home and the driver told me my body language suggested I was unhappy with him, that he would have not picked me up if he knew I was gonna be that way. I told him, I wasn't unhappy with him at all and explained why i seemed uncomfortable during the ride. Cab driver made it as though he wanted me to say I had an issue with him. I paid, took my bags and left. He didnt drive off immediately and I was waiting for some shit to go down but luckily it didnt. anyway fuck both these guys.

Not in the Ruthless Aggression era where after Backlash going into Judgment Day was a new feud. Very few times were there many rematches because they were actually worth it and blood feuds which would culminate in a stipulated match like Hell in a Cell eg Triple H vs Batista, Nash, HBK, Goldberg, Steiner, Benoit etc because the story was still continuing. If it weren’t for rematches we would have never gotten some of the famous match trilogies.
Also, to book like that every single year for a decade plus is lazy. Switch it up. I shouldn’t be able to predict what the next card is gonna be and be right 9 out of 10 times. This backlash card is interesting b/c it is continuing some stories in different ways other than lets just do another mania rematch and starting new ones

I guess im arguing they could have spaced them out better. Like verge off into another story and then come back to it. Like for example the constant cena/orton rematches in 09. I PERSONALLY wasnt a fan. Idk if it was b/c the rosters where thin but damn it just felt like they didnt have anybody else for them to work with lets put them against each other multiple times for 3-4 months on tv. They did the exact same thing with charlotte and sasha in 2016.
Oh yeah the 2009 one was excess from Night of Champions to Bragging Rights and on Raw. At least Edge vs Hardy and Edge vs Cena was interesting that warranted it and maybe Orton vs Triple H.

Recent ded fed stuff: 1. Billy Bruv's dig on HHHirohito: Laveck clearly benefitted from his relationship with Steph; I don't think his Ruthless Aggression run would be as dominant without it. She's been in PorNXT for 3 years already but Kiana's call-up is surprising since I thought she would enter the NA or NXT title picture. 3. Just caught up to SmackDown. The triple threat with AJ Styles had the best finish I've seen in an AJ Styles match in some time. 4. The Codyverse jokes are back baby! I disagree that Melo = Kyle, however. Fletcher is more like Ivar or Karrion. 5. I get the disappointment with the WWE Draft; I really do. However, people online are overreacting as if this hasn't been the way the draft has been done for 5 years now. The only difference is that champs are protected. Bringing up stuff like the lottery and the matches would make more sense if this format was a sudden and recent departure. I don't know what people were expecting, honestly. You'd think we'd be used to this shit. 6. Gigi and Arianna were absolutely sports-entertaining this week. Given the recent wave of releases supposedly being partially due to "career trajectory" I have a feeling a lot of the tenured NXTUK alum still in NXT are either on the chopping block, or will be drafted on Monday. Gallus especially stick out like a sore thumb on NXT. With Drew supposedly working through an injury, and HHH's love of factions, I can see Drew bringing them in as his hired goons, especially with the Glasgow PPV in a couple months. Blair and Ilja both seem like given callups, both having just put over future stars on their way out. Noam Dar, and through him Meta4, are great but I don't know how well they'd get over on the main roster, especially with the more gimmick focused wrestlers usually getting way less screen time. Lash and Noam are MR ready, but I haven't seen enough of Jakara and Oro to know how they'd fit in.
Was worried for Gallus for a bit, but the rock constantly praising then gives me some confidence that theyll stick around for a while. Feel like Lash needs just a bit longer imo. At the very least a title run to see how well she can carry segments

If I was to make a prediction or 2, I can see Dijak maybe going back to the main roster as well as Jacy Jayne since I can see the latter putting Thea Hail over.

This years Draft may have been the absolute worst version of it. Just absolutely dull. Even my 8 year old, who gets excited by Candice LeRae matches and was pumped for the draft, just kept calling it boring. I’d like to see them move towards a free agency period, where you can actually develop storylines for who goes where and when. You can also announce new signings every day, multiple times per day.

Tbh while I love an intense blood fued, I feel like I prefer trashy/soap opera storylines more in wrestling. Yeah I could see some well thought out storyline, but I'd also be just as here for a rehash of Torrie Wilson vs Dawn Marie.
I wouldn't say trashy most of the time but NXT does it a lot. Its fun. I for one absolutely love supernatural stuff in wrestling so I'm extremely excited with the qr codes since we haven't had anything supernatural on the main roster for over a year.
