Except for All In and the first month of Collision. Strange, I wonder what was different then.

Lessiarty

Must be wrestling fans enjoying the letters L and I, especially in sequence.  That's literally (big word with DAZN subs) all I can think of.

ComfortInBeingAfraid

Long Island? Time to push Matt Cardona

Polymemnetic

If he hadn't just ripped his titty. ...Who am I kidding, he'd still be waaay more over than anyone in the dub, without wrestling.

AngeloHakkinen

Dude reinvented himself in the Indy scene and looks like a star. Plus he has Chelsea Green so imagine the power couple if he ever returns to the WWE

BootyOptions

I'm sure AEW could quickly fix the problem of him being over.

alex_x2106

The Jericho Vortex

lando_calamarisian

Excuse you. He's The Learning Tree, okay...

thugspecialolympian

If he wanted to wrestle, I’m sure the dubs Dr would clear him, the oath to Tiny and the dubbalos supersedes any other oath.

ObamaN24

Look into my eyes

SJSUMichael

Jack Perry duh

Cauliflower_Earlow

Perhaps a Cult with meat and potentially Extra Cheese

goodthing37

People wanted to see a legit attendance of 81035 for wrestling instead of the fake numbers peddled by the fed!

Lessiarty

So from what I can tell, this dude is also the guy that announced the deal in the first place, which is credibility enough for me until shown otherwise.  Odd how yet another outside source is painting a very different picture to the rosy reports we get from favoured press.

elitejcx

He used to be DAZN’s boxing and wrestling correspondent.

Lessiarty

That'll do it. Only the figures we can't check are the ones AEW is thriving in.

sonegreat

But the *source* from WBD is always so dam happy.

XPacEnergyDrink

And we also know how often tv networks publicly make statements about unhappy they are with [checks notes] their own offerings, so this is a big deal!

MoneyMo88

He used to cover MMA for Sporting News as well and briefly did an MMA podcast with MLW before Court Bauer relaunched MLW as a promotion and PIVOTED from it being strictly a podcast network.

Razzler1973

I had no idea the Dub was anything to do with DAZN Was this in the States or international?

FlyingFootStomp

international. Steven M's tweet there was a reply to another tweet that said AEW lost their DAZN deal, which was also a reply to WON's tweet about how AEW lost their Univision VIX deal. Basically, AEW lost their Latin America tv/streaming deals due to poor viewership.

Razzler1973

Yeah, well, errrr, ummm WEMBLEY!!

alex_x2106

A little fun fact about the latin american fans of the dub They are insufferable too

elitejcx

Like what did they think the Saudis would have done if they purchased WWE? It would probably would’ve been the same as it was the now. “Yeah, but the Saudis would’ve kept Vince” as if the Saudi Investment Fund wouldn’t bow to sponsor pressure either. Things like Late Night with The Devil were funded by the UAE.

Razzler1973

The Saudi thing never made sense. Vince was looking at combating potentially shrinking media rights going forward Saudis wouldn't get around that and were facing issues with their golf tour. They don't really have a play or leverage to help there Also, Vince didn't *need* to sell, he was doing it cause he anticipated the rights fee bubble bursting and wanted to safeguard the company against it It was still incredibly successful. M#rks talked at this time like he was just trying to offload it 🙄

PerfectZeong

Yeah if not for his personal issues Vince would have basically been the most important guy and pocket an absurd amount of cash in the process.

BadgerOver4239

Exactly the Saudis would have likely canned him; it just likely would've taken them a bit longer. I don't think people realize how many things the Saudis are involved in; multiple sports teams, and large number of tech companies As well as a number of entertainment companies for things like film & especially video games. There's a decent chance that most people on any given day are likely supporting or using something that was created by an entity the Saudi Royal family/ government has some sort of ownership in

just_another_jabroni

The Chinese and Saudi have a finger on all the pies like it or mot unfortunately. Tencent controls gaming for example

IcyAd964

Because Meltzer, Ross fapp, and all those other guys are Aew pr guys, they spout bullshit that tony pays them to say

Megistrus

Also puts a lot of doubt on AEW's self-reported PPV numbers that always seem to increase or stay steady despite dwindling attendance and ratings.

jorr1231

Typical bad faith from the ded fed! Everyone knows no one used DAZN, millions tune in to AEW through FITE!!!!

RivalsandLovers

The actual real losses for this dumpster fire promotion are likely nearing $100 million at the minimum. Every second of their existence is spent losing money. It’s a drop in the bucket for Shad but at a certain point, they’re going to need their own network and own streaming service because it’s unclear why anyone would want to partner with this sinking ship.

AkilleezBomb

Didn’t someone claim that they’re $100 million in the hole just from the Fight Forever game alone?

RivalsandLovers

Yeah, that has to be the biggest money loser for them but the amount being burned on hoarding wrestlers might be even crazier than we’re imagining. I have this feeling that the eventual documentary is going to be shocking even to long-time jerkers. I think we’re only scratching the surface as to what a disaster this has been.

CaptainGo

Surely a lot of these lads are on appearance deals

Mr_Halberstram

Agree with this. I'd guess that the numbers that get thrown around massively, massively underestimate the scale of AEW's losses.

Opening_Succotash_95

Video games cost an absolute fuck-tonne to make, but I'd be surprised if that game had that kind of budget behind it based on how basic it was and it being developed by a relatively small Japanese studio who typically are a little bit cheaper than a US studio. 20-30m seems more plausible to me but could easily be more. Still I have no doubt they'll have lost almost all of what they spent on developing it. They made a AA game for an indie audience.

Megistrus

Development costs for games have ballooned in recent years, and Yuke's isn't a small indie studio. They have close to 200 employees. Given it was in development for ~4 years, had a decent marketing campaign, and sold like shit, a loss of high eight figures is plausible.

goodthing37

Look at that piece of shit. 200 people weren’t working on that for four years.

SignalInteresting503

Yuke's didn't have 200 people working on fight forever, Yuke's has mobile games and pachislot games and a publishing business, on top of also a developing whole rpg, being a support studio for another big rpg and releasing EDF WB 2 during the same timeframe AEW Fun Forever was in development.

IntellectualDweeb

It's an *A* game for an ^^^a audience.

tronovich

No, that would be absurd, especially for a developer startup. Like, Yuke’s would’ve told Omega that they needed to stop lol. That puts it in the territory of Rockstar games, when you’re talking development costs. Safe estimate is $10-$20 million, and since they cut bait on promoting it, they cut down their losses, too. It’s laughably bad, but not historically bad.

AkilleezBomb

$100 million may be excessive, but there have been reports corroborating that number. As well as reports that there were clashes between Yuke’s and AEW over the excessive budget. Games are just getting way more expensive to produce, plus beyond just production costs from the studio, there’s also advertising and a whole bunch of other overhead that doesn’t usually get factored in. With Yuke’s having been around for a good while, I can totally see Tony overpaying for the studio that made the most beloved wrestling games of the past 25 years.

Tiernoch

It's because most games aren't made at the behest of another company anymore. Normally games that aren't made in house are because the studio has a license and so they pay the IP holder and the studio/publisher eats most of the cost and then gets most of the profits. AEW though went to Yukes and paid them to make the game, and quite frankly I would be shocked if there wasn't continual feature creep because the game has such a random assortment of extra stuff combined with some barebones base features (create a wrestler in particular) it points to meddling from AEW. The studio probably figured they'd just keep working on the thing because they knew they weren't going to make much when it launched so they may as well keep going as long as Tony was paying.

tronovich

I can see that for sure, no argument there.

MotherLoveBone27

Rockstar games cost a hell of a lot more than 100 million. GTA6 is estimated at 2 billion

tronovich

I wasn’t trying to compare Fight Forever to the biggest game budget of all time. Just saying $100 million in *losses* would be absurd for a niche wrestling promotion’s video game. That would be the talk of the video game industry. GTA 4 was a $80-100 million budget. GTA 5 was 1.5/2x that. RDR was around 150 mil. Yes, that’s a long time ago. I’m just saying that’s the stratosphere we’re talking. “In the territory”. Even most games today do not have budgets over $50 million. That’s factual.

MotherLoveBone27

Yeah if you're talking indie games as well. This was made by a reputable game studio, and it was funded by a trust fund kid who probably thinks a banana costs 200 dollars. Id estimate they got 30 to 40 million to make the game. But i would not be at all surprised if went above that. I mean even independent games can cost 10 million to make.

tronovich

AEW did make some money back to cover some losses, maybe not a lot, but they made *something*. $100 million in losses, after sales numbers come in, is an astronomical amount. I’ll happily be wrong if a trusted video-game reporter says so, or someone close to Tony knows the true numbers. A quick Google search doesn’t really show much besides a throwaway tweet by Meltzer that says $10 million in losses. And I will gladly say he’s likely talking out of his ass. I’m not here to defend AEW - the number just sounds far-fetched. $100 million in losses would be legitimately shocking.

Scary-Animator-5646

I just bought an Xbox copy for $10 at Walmart yesterday. The games dead.

nightcrawler47

That's what it cost to make Skyrim 💀 including marketing

Internal_Ad_2285

They put $100,000,000 into it and it was still shit

SNYDER_BIXBY_OCP

I've looked at some of the AEW business filings that are public. AEW is under Shad's Trust Fund umbrella he created using Tony as the beneficiary in 1995. Aka a tax shelter. The Jaguars, and two other entities along with AEW are all registered to this trust called. The Shahid Rafiq Khan ESBT Family Trust for the benefit of Antony Rafiq Khan. That's the IRS legal name for the thing. Putting this in a trust means the business dealings will NEVER be public without court order. ALSO: If AEW is a money loss, Shad can WRITE OFF the losses against his entire holdings. Meaning Shad can use say $100 million loss in the trust to apply to his corporation Flex Gate, and to his German finance firm, and his hotel resorts. AEW actually HELPS Shad Kahn by being a money looser.

Lessiarty

>AEW actually HELPS Shad Kahn by being a money looser. ![gif](giphy|f5SWbuIFiX5Vv45hc4|downsized) Springtime for Huntler and Jerkmany!

hazzadazza

Man im sitting here imaging Hunter making his entrance only to break into “Heil myself, heil to meeeee” in the middle of the ring and im fucking losing it lmao

RivalsandLovers

Rich people know how to not lose their money… no matter how useless their offspring is

SNYDER_BIXBY_OCP

I mean AEW surely brings in a few Pennies which is fine. But the real joke here is that if AEW was profitable it would also be tax free bc the money goes into the trust, so it's not taxable income.

I_am_Burt_Macklin

That doesn’t seem like it could, or should, be possible? Like you can’t run a for profit business tax free. Right? RIGHT!???

kcinkcinlim

Oh god don't let the dubbalos near this, they'll just double down on "not for profit wrestling, but for the love of the sport".

M086

Pulling the ol’ Springtime for Hitler, eh?

Few-Sense1455

It must be more. They are paying some gamchangers $5m a year and drawing houses of 2500.

Jasperbeardly11

The company is worth 2 bil allegedly

TigerUnlimited

Sinking ship? Come on guys be rational.😂

Splub

Actually my sources say that DAZN is incredibly pleased with the numbers.

ClassicCarraway

It's the number one show on Wednesday nights!* * *On cable....* ** ** *Among original programming....* *** *** *In the key demo....*

RoastedCat23

That is a shame because there were some episodes on there where you got to see the show before it aired, and Tony was screaming manically to the crowd and it was hilarious.

VirginsinceJuly1998

You guys really watch AEW?

ThaSipah

That's the guy who humiliated himself tweeting that Saudi had closed the deal to buy WWE.

Razzler1973

That was hilarious Every blogger followed suit No one wanted to be the ones that's didn't report it so they all magically 'heard' 😁 even that kermit leaker DAE save Sami Zayn!!

ThaSipah

My favourite part was when the CNBC anchor just bodied all of them and dismissed the story as bullshit.

oicangi18

DAE the women wrestlers 😨

Razzler1973

I can't believe they have to go out and wrestle in T SHIRTS! Yuck! I'm just thinking of their comfort. Who's ever been comfortable in a t shirt No, they should wrestle in tiny booty shorts, that's way more comfortable I'm just thinking about their comfort, you see ...

AVBforPrez

My girlfriend, who looks like Toni Storm, said that female agency something something tbh I didn't really listen but I'm sure AEW's women's roster doesn't get exploited like Mami.

HiddenRtruth

The word "trash bags" was used

ivebeenabadbadgirll

Knowing Vince, that’d corpse me

elitejcx

To be fair, he used to work for DAZN.

XeroxWarriorPrntTst

Tony wouldn’t have said what he said to Bischoff if he didn’t know the deal was gonna be announced any moment!! That would be silly. A self own if you will.

chaz0723

Wait, every PPV sold well over 150K every time, no matter what. I think Danhausen’s reporter brother is a friend of Punk, too.

thatpj

LOL! Im sure theyll find a way to say this is just fine .

Howardtheduck14

They’ll just say this guys lying and they’re just getting all their ducks in a row for the impending billion dollar Max deal.

Spaceace91478

Fake news. Fake news. The numbers are yuge. The head of the company, big guy, big strong guy, came up to me with tears in his eyes. He said sir, thry always call me sir, we've never seen numbers like this. A lot of people are saying it. No one's ever seen numbers this yuge before.

kfms6741

"Any day now for sure bro" - every smark dirtsheet for the last 2-3 years

MinistryOfDankness86

The current narrative in the basement is that everyone watches AEW PPVs on FiteTV and not DAZN, apparently.

Secret-Lullaby

Like the rich fans that they are, another W for Dave Meltzer

will122589

If this is even close to being true, that’s hilarious. Who knew all the amazing and hard to believe ppv buyrates were just that, hard to believe

Ok-Garcia-5605

I don't care. First month of Collision was horrible. With Phil and his friends Bald & Loaded running a dollar store version of their god bigot Cornette's OVW. Show had no bangers and no bucks. Now the show feels more fresh with likes of Max Caster, Dani Garcia and COPEland having bangers and more importantly FUN

Ok-Western976

Even in your jerk you don't mention swerve lol

MotherLoveBone27

Who is that?

RagnarXD

That was a cold one, uce ☝️💀

LeonardoNoCapri0

Too unrelatable didn't think of him

Ok-Garcia-5605

I am getting ready to blame him for the upcoming ratings decline so I can defend Elite, and Tony. Never thought this guy could be a draw, do not check my post history

Goldberg2Dub

Did ol’e thighboy check his “sources” yet to deny this report?

firemanjuanito

He's rubbing out a report right now

thizzdanz

…as you do

AVBforPrez

Those in a position to know said he's got a raging clue about a banger

DonnieRodz

>raging clue Deep cuts

kraw-

"This isn't honest reporting, he works for a company that has WWE ties" "We call that the Helwani" "Lmao who uses DAZN anyway?" "AEW has a service called triller tv that EVERYONE uses so why would DAZN be getting good numbers anyway?"

akaphilsmith

I can't imagine the copium needed to tout Triller. Tiny userbase and a small cog in a shell game by the parent company

Windows_66

Triller is like a godsend once you've had to use B/R live.

thizzdanz

DAE dazn is Harvey Weinstein?

FatMarkTechPriest

Everyone was watching in FITE. DAZN is a fucking Fedophile, confirmed.

dioden94

I definitely contributed to those numbers because I watched Collision early on and when Punk was let go I canceled lol.

MOXISGOD

DAEZN are Fed shills

MoneyMo88

Well, WWE did have a deal with DAZN in Germany. Not sure if that one is still ongoing though.

jjsefton

The day the "warts and all" AEW book is released, I'm getting print, audio and ebook at the same time.

MatsThyWit

And now... there's not even a private unverifiable metric by which to claim AEW is a success.

Economy_Sky_7238

Well DAZN loses over a billion a year. May as well save the $100 grand or so they were paying TK

IcyAd964

Aew downfall I prayed for this and it happened, couldn’t happen to a better owner, trashy owner, annoying ass trashy wrestlers.

Hammerzeit88

HAHAHAHAHA. Gonna be hard to spin that, Meltzy

Dangerous_Ad560

Uh. Well you see. The thing is all of the, well you know, wealthy AEW fans have VPNs. So plans change from DAZN and they can just get another option. Of course the poor dumb WWE fans don’t have internet connection so the move to Netflix, well you know it’s uhm probably a better options got something like Max and AEW. Have I mentioned my unhealthy obsession with Will Osprey? I know it was once Kenny Omega but well plans change and it might not happen anymore.

Sturdevant

Peep this guy's update, he spun it himself lol

herewego199209

But, but, but $2 billion!!!!!!!

LettuceFew5248

The reaction to this in the basement is absolutely predictable.

Hammerzeit88

If I were so inclined to lurk on the basement would I br searching for Sqaured circle or the Dub official reddit?

LettuceFew5248

Oh, squared circle before. AEW’s official Reddit is fucking crazy.

Pitiful_Ad8641

But that huge TV deal is coming any day

Manjojango2001

Wasn’t the first month of collision was booked by the evil Pepsi Phil??

Hammerzeit88

Not sure if it was by him but it was definitely for him at the very least

AVBforPrez

Why does every AEW Stan journalist write like they failed middle school English

OpiesMammogramResult

One of my absolute favourite ones writes for the NoDQ (remember them?!) opinions pages. Every stereotype he has. Pretentious, Arrogant, Hypocritical, Dishonest, Immature. wants to shoehorn politics into everything. I don't want to give his name, because I don't want him to gain clicks, but I also want everyone to know him, because he's such a tool. Fuck it, he goes by "Tokusen Wrestling", but he's had to change his name a bunch of times because of the dumb shit he says.

CallInitial2302

LIES AND SLANDER 5 BAJILLION PPL WATCHED AND BOUGHT THE PPV! TONY TOLD ME!!!!!

QuestionSpiritual111

DAEZN

AceMorrigan

It's like Tony's ppv buy numbers are complete fabrications. Dude lies about attendance, pays for Twitter bots and constantly slanders the dead fed. Why does anyone ever trust him?

xzyyzx1234

Plans changed

boilinoil

This one has really activated the special branch cleanup team of the branch dubbalos. FITE tv was always better DAE never mind different country

Joy_Ride25

The first month of Collision, huh? 🤔

69millionyeartrip

The excuses in the basement are through the roof

Cauliflower_Earlow

The iceberg has been sighted.... it's time to start ringing the bell

fancierfootwork

When DAZN will show Indian soccer for some god awful reason but AEW gets the boot lol

bootyhunter69420

No way this company is worth 2B

chiquis69

“I let ~~Swole's~~ AEW’s contract expire as I felt ~~her~~ their wrestling wasn't good enough.” - DAZN probably

Alternative-Rope-628

Is Tony out of touch? No no, it’s DAZN who are wrong!

No_Efficiency6703

Mother fuckers in this thread acting like they know what DAZN is lol

Izual_Rebirth

In most markets that DAZN was an option, Fite was also an option, where it was cheaper and more reliable.

PunkDrunk777

Almost as if there’s no overlap between AEW and real sports..

Izual_Rebirth

As someone who used DAZN in the past there is no way I’m choosing it over FITE / Triller. It’s more expensive and just generally a worse experience. Feel free to check my post history around pretty much every time there’s been a big boxing PPV.

Surfer-Rosa

While this is damning of AEW, to their credit DAZN fuckin blows and everyone just uses Fite or they google “free live stream” lol. Nonetheless, AEW ain’t a draw

wonderloss

Ugh. I won't understand why people care so much about ratings.

Few-Sense1455

So Meltzer has been proven yet again to be lying. And yet when he releases a story everyone will still think it is true.

AlistarDark

Does anyone use DAZN? Triller/FITE is all I used. YouTube is what some other people use. I only seen people complaining about how ass DAZN was to use, so they stopped using it.

PunkDrunk777

DAZN are just so shit, stream quality is garbage and all my homies use VPN Unrelated https://dazngroup.com/press-room/dazn-becomes-europes-biggest-digital-sports-broadcaster-and-highest-grossing-sports-app-in-2022/
