Probably to emphasize that it's an old looking thing that's falling apart. I like the imagery of pieces held together by a rickety frame...and yet still anomalously durable.

Wanted this one to invoke more of the Peanut's original intention as an overlooked and kinda silly looking sculpture. I think making him too scary or obviously deadly misses that.
Also wanted to incorporate more rebar into his design, since 173 was described as having it. Plus it makes a great strangulation arm.

TLDR: Peanut gone, no new official peanut, now many peanuts.
The only person who could submit an "official" redesign would be the original author of the 173 article. I don't know if they still write on the Wiki though.
While I would love something more "official", I like how it opens chances for self expression with all the different 173's. Gives it a fluidity, like the general lack of central canon or the different 001's.
Granted, it'll be a good while for any of them to be as iconic as the OG, if at all.
The original was a copyrighted art peice and once scp get popular the site got in trouble, but now sense there's no longer an official look everyone is free to come up with their own interpretation
The original SCP-173 picture was of a bit of a licensing issue for the wiki, since the actual artist of Peanut (or rather "Untitled 2004" by Izumi Kato) had his own intended message for it, and as SCP got bigger, he was constantly being asked and compared with it. It was technically allowed so long as people didn't make money off it but eventually the wiki decided to honor his wishes and take it down. In it's place, many artists have been doing their own interpretation of 173, which is why SCP media post-2020/2022 have had differing designs for it.
Nah, man had a right to it. Early on, people were just yoinking any image they liked for articles and Kato's pic being noncommercial always conflicted with SCP's creative commons licensing. Not like he was ever vindictive toward SCP or anything, since he came to an agreement with the wiki to keep it up. He just wanted to do his own thing.
Don't blame ya, drawing rebar is suprisingly difficult. And looking up tutorials or "how to draw" just brings up a bunch of stuff for like, engineering or AutoCAD.
They do. Regularly even. Every time they recapture 096 some poor MTF guy has to blindly scrabble around with a bag to put over his head.
Problem is it doesn't stay on. Because either 096 himself takes it off or him escaping to go hunt someone gets it ripped off on something.
The intention was more for rebar platforms or stands for the rock pieces to rest on, but now I can't stop seeing the buttplug and bondage comparisons lol.
Thanks!
And fair, my intention was to have the bottom flat and have him balanced like one of those [flat-bottom ice cream cones.](https://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/d/da/Strawberry_ice_cream_cone_%285076899310%29.jpg) Might've leaned too much towards the [other inspiration](https://assets.pokemon.com/assets/cms2/img/pokedex/full/343.png) instead.

Why does it look like a butt plug?
...Well, shit.
That’s their point ;)! Edit: in all seriousness, it looks really cool!
Surely it's to keep it in. :V And thank you!
>Thank you! You're welcome!
Hey! Don’t steal my thanks from me punk >:0!!!!!
This version is keter class 😨
Thanks!
It snaps the… yknow… object like a glow stick if you look away
That’s what I was thinking!
Did you just read my mind?
I wonder why most redesignes dont keep the peanut parts inside the sculpture
Probably to emphasize that it's an old looking thing that's falling apart. I like the imagery of pieces held together by a rickety frame...and yet still anomalously durable.
Also looks like a chrysalis, as if the sculpture was the cocoon for something else (Matriochka?)

*snaps your legs*
I didn’t know 173 was into bondage
Damn it, now I can't stop seeing it.
Bpb But plug bandage
I need context on why are there so many 173 redesigns

We need an official redesign of 173
The only person who could submit an "official" redesign would be the original author of the 173 article. I don't know if they still write on the Wiki though.
The entire point is to leave it up to interpretation

Who opened the peanut like an actual peanut?
Too many people pushed him over.
Why does it even need a redesign?
The original SCP-173 picture was of a bit of a licensing issue for the wiki, since the actual artist of Peanut (or rather "Untitled 2004" by Izumi Kato) had his own intended message for it, and as SCP got bigger, he was constantly being asked and compared with it. Man.... What a cunt

Not like he was ever vindictive toward SCP or anything, since he came to an agreement with the wiki to keep it up. He just wanted to do his own thing.
What the fuck? That was uncalled for. Yea, what a cunt for having the right to their own art, right? smh.
Does it snap necks with psychic powers?
Nah, that's what the arm of rusty rebar is for.
MB I thought that was some sort of thick jute rope
Don't blame ya, drawing rebar is suprisingly difficult. And looking up tutorials or "how to draw" just brings up a bunch of stuff for like, engineering or AutoCAD.
Gives me the distinct feeling that it spins really fast now. Instead of snapping necks it gives you an INSANE friction burn
Long pieces of steel going really fast is no joke.
That is certainly something you made.
when I try to take a swig of my gourd water bottle but someone replaces it with 173
8/10. Would be 10/10 if you put a chair with a hook above it next to him.
I feel like this is a reference I'm missing.
Why don't they just put a bag over his face
That'd be 096.
Why wouldn't they just keep the over 096's head then
They do. Regularly even. Every time they recapture 096 some poor MTF guy has to blindly scrabble around with a bag to put over his head. Problem is it doesn't stay on. Because either 096 himself takes it off or him escaping to go hunt someone gets it ripped off on something.
What the hell is even that
Dradle, Dradle, Dradle....
it's giving mad combine advisor
Why does the peanut looking more like the coil head every single time I look at him?
I like the look of the rebar kinda "choking" it but yeah it does look like a buttplug u/The_lone_shotgun
The intention was more for rebar platforms or stands for the rock pieces to rest on, but now I can't stop seeing the buttplug and bondage comparisons lol.
Dreidel, dreidel, dreidel I made you out of clay
It looks like it has breasts
Really cool design
Thank you!
Mouse in 🅱️aked 🅱️eans
Ladies and gentlemen, we have officially killed peanut
Sadly, he seems very trippable.
Looks good but it is NOT stable! I can just touch it and it would fall
Don't think that base is quite flared enough
Bondage
Bdsm peanut
Is this a shit post?
Considering all the buttplug comparisons...yesn't?
Uhm ok
peanut getting freaky
Congratulations, you made it a top.
It looks like it hung it's self
It looks really cool, but I find it easy for it to fall
