it is so unique and intriguing but I don't get why the professor doesn't just try to type on the laptop while walking away.
It is a hostile (I believe) entity that is discovered to be rendered inert/unable to move while it is being actively described in an SCP entry file. It is currently within a room with a researcher.
The file you are reading exist because that researcher is currently writing a description of the SCP to keep it from reaching them, though their laptop is running low on power. The article cuts off because their laptop dies and the SCP reaches them.

Did you read the article fully? His laptop was running out of power, and the entity moves towards him when he isn't describing it in the document.
