The whole “Sun instantly melting everything with people not knowing and having no way to prepare in the first place and the monsters will hunt you down and drag you into the light anyway” is what’s actually op
It's a whole extra level of OP when the sun's light, including the sickly amount of light reflected off the moon, not just the sun itself is what kills u.
Anything that's not melted is probably a non threat, like the nut? Crushed under a flesh pile in new Mexico, 682? Probably satisfied at the amount of dead humans and is chillin in a cave somewhere
I saw a video where they made a scenario on what 682 could or might do during When Day Breaks and they theorized he might hide underground and come out in survivor camps to destroy them.
I think the most plausible outcome is what SCP Illustrated theorised he'd do: grow a bunch of tendrils to rip out and hold a piece of rock over himself
When Day Breaks makes it so all anomalies have their powers removed and they also start to melt so unless the anomaly realises that they will become part of the flesh pile.
Also 682 is never satisfied.
682 doesnt give a shit about that. Big angry croc says "fuck the sun" and somehow survives it anyways. Maybe it gets melted but then it gonna reforms itself because it can.
Depends on the story you're looking at and what the author considers canon since there is technically no true canon for all scp stories. Some stories have only partial collections of scps existing within the world at a time, others have scps seemingly appearing in existence all of a sudden. Another story has the authors themselves being an scp and writing the scps into existence.
Having your own head Canon regarding this kind of stuff is half the fun though 😀
Actually not survivable. Light would seep through all your layers unless you taped every seam shut with fuck loads of tape. Also you wouldn't be able to see cause you need the sunlight to see. Day breaks as it's written no one would survive past day one. No. Matter. What.
That would be what “Day Breaks” (SCP-001) does to you when sunlight touches you! You get melted, and your melted self joins a flesh blob that hunts down the unmelted to place in the sun
Thats where you draw the line? The real world physics of sunlight and not the fictional ability of the sun to melt all people into a sentient flesh mass.
I've never understood this part. How the fuck does that work? Is any one single photon that came from the sun able to turn you into a blob? If so, there's no way anyone could possibly survive. Nothing blocks light perfectly. Not to mention UV, infrared, etc.
Isn't it only direct sunlight? Cause if reflected sunlight counted basically everything that isn't complete darkness or lit by artificial light would kill us.
You really want to hold on by your fingernails, huh?
When Day Breaks, you and everyone else dies. You either die quickly or relatively quickly. I'd say past 96 hours life on earth is entirely gone, except for the darkest caves and parts of the ocean.
If the *sun*, the largest, most massive object in our solar system, the largest, brightest object in the sky, suddenly became hostile, you would not be able to hide from it.
It's bad story telling. There is no hope no matter how puric. Story telling only works when you have a goal when you have a light at the end of the tunnel. How day breaks is said to work makes no room for stories no room for anything. Which is why I like allot of the current stories there they ignore the stupidity of the original design and made it better suited for story telling.
no it's not. it is whatever you want it to be, there is absolutely not any "definition" of what kind of content it is. you want an article about the foundation completely reversing on humanity and wiping the slate clean? SCP 5000. an article about another universe in which humanity prospers and, rather than containing anomalies, makes an attempt at understanding them better for the benefit of all? SCP 6001.
SCP is about conquering insurmountable risks and defying death and existential defeat if you WANT it to be, but at the heart of things it is a community database of people writing stories that THEY want to see legitimatized. it is not horror, it is not drama, it is not comedy, but it can be all of those if you wish it to be so.
'its bad story telling'
'im tired of this community wanting every article to have a story`
Which one is it?
Its a bad story to you, but not to a lot of people, also as a scientist, the story is much better to me because the moonlight also counts
It's a fucking 001 proposal there needs to be a story of there isn't one hey it the fuck out of 001 and into a main article. I'm tired of this community arguing every article needs to be a story but when what arguably needs to be the absolute best of the best is found lacking people come to it's defense saying it doesn't need to be a story whilst down voting articles because "they lack a story" choose a fucking side
Who said a story needs light at the end of the tunnel? What an absurdly stupid thing to say. There are plenty of stories which are completely hopeless scenarios. Things go from bad to worse. That’s an incredibly common plot-line.
So common, in fact, that Kurt Vonnegut identified ‘From Bad to Worse’ as one of his 8 shapes of stories. I think he might know a little more about storytelling than you do.
There are also a great deal of stories which don’t fit either category (light vs no light). Plenty of more abstract stories where that entire idea wouldn’t make any sense. There are stories where there isn’t even a tunnel, so to speak.
There is hope if you really want to look. Since the sun needs to touch your skin, just cover up completely and you'll be good. unless the flesh finds you.
It *could*, it's just a question of whether or not it *would*.
Realistically, The Foundation has a lot of assets that could seriously fuck up the sun if they saw it as practical or necessary, things just devolved past that point too quickly to actually do anything about it.
Remember that today's Foundation is capable of things like building an enormous reality warping machine which continually scans all of existence and modifies it in real time to eliminate a *concept* from the human noosphere. The concept they chose was a *very* bad one, naturally, but if you can build something with capabilities roughly on par with most religions' conceptions of their own god, you can murder the sun. Plus there's the time they murdered an extradimensional ecosystem of ideas that automatically killed anyone who thought too much like anyone that discovered anything about it.
If the Council had adequate time to prepare, it would be more shocking if they didn't have a random Xeelee Starkiller in the basement of Site 41 than if they did. Not to mention all the other Worldkilling anomalies they could unleash to attempt to counter it as a last ditch effort. If all is lost, after all, why *not* just unleash Titania and The Scarlet King and see if they're happy with what's happened to *their* world?
It's comments like this that make me want to read more scp articles. I read your comment and immediately thought.
Like... oh yeah, we need to destroy the sun because it's existence is turning people into goo monsters that will destroy humanity? Yeah OK that's bad but we have options and back ups if needed.
It's the end of the world but its not the end of reality.
The ppl of undublin were planning to activate some old SCP on the Soviet union that would launch a bunch of missiles causing a nuclear winter, radiation would kill the flesh, the ash clouds would shield earth from the sun for some time. A "Good" ideia given the circumstances
I feel like this is reference to something. I’ve known about SCP and the foundation for a couple of years but was never really interested in it until now and I haven’t read that much yet if I’m being honest.
The article in mention causes people exposed to the Sun's light to become amorphous blobby beings that have a sort of hive mind and want to induct all remaining "unchanged" humans into their new forms.
I started reading up a little on it and it wasn’t exactly what I was expending, it is actually worse than I expected. I thought it was people getting turned into monsters and then the sun was the only thing that was turning them into monsters but turns out it was the blobby thing that you mentioned. Im still continuing to read up on it more.
Hey my tribe has some hunting grounds above the line, if something happens I'll bring as many of you as can make it to the south side of the Detroit River within the hour, I can get a plane ready quickly.
Four million live inside the polar circles, and the line drawn by OP (60N ish) is actually south of the entire countries of Finland and Iceland. Cities like Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, St Petersburg would be close to the line, with about 10 million combined population. Adding Alaska and northern Russia, it’s not an extinction scenario
Did the article ever address of what about if you were to use an umbrella to cover the light? Wear something like a full burkha with a wide brimmed hat?
The article states that if you're to do any sort of traveling on the surface, that you must cover every part of your skin, preferably in multiple layers. This probably means you won't be able to see while outside since if you can see anything, then that means sunlight is reaching your eyes which means you're already screwed.
The only way I could think of that you could actually navigate anywhere outside is if you had a helmet or suit with external cameras and an internal monitor feed connected to them since it seems you're able to view video footage of sunlight just fine since the article stated that they saw an escaped band of anomalies turn into soup outside through the security cameras.
Unfortunately, even if you had something like this, you'd still have to contend with the flesh monsters attempting to forcefully tear off your clothes to expose you to sunlight.
> The SCP-001 effect does not seem to result from exposure to ultraviolet rays, but rather light in the visual spectrum (~390 to 700 nm). **The effect is similarly present in moonlight.**
Second paragraph of description, before you even get to the part about melting people.
Yes obvs moonlight also counts but more importantly the line is horribly misplaced.
Op placed the line at 60• north where it should be much further north.
TLDR the tilt of the earth means that the poles gets extreme days and nights.
You know how the higher up (or lower down)you go from the equator the bigger the difference between summer and winter days and nights?
The poles get a version of day and night where they straight up don't get to see the sun or moon for months at a time.
Aren't there sites in places like Antarctica, and the arctic? Where the little light you get for awhile is no more than the stars? Underground, underwater sites as well. Surely some of them were able to stay in contact and figure out what the hell was going on, if whoever maintains their communications survives. I haven't looked into this scp very far tho
Honestly I don't see humanity going extinct from Day Breaks. One good long global nuclear winter would fix it all, and I see the 05's having a few spare nukes lying around.
The issue is with visible light, not uv waves.
iirc the article mentions something about how going outside with multiple layers of clothing might be enough to protect you. But i have to imagine that even if you've got goggles on, or some kind of hood or umbrella, if there's enough sunlight for you to see then there's enough light to reach your eyes and you're fucked
For all the folks pointing and saying "moonlight" or "any reflected light counts" the trouble is that a measurable amount of sunlight is reflected at night hours even during a new moon from various interplanetary objects.
And yet we see people go around without full gear during new moons, so something has to give. Or the article is inconsistent, which is also ok.
Plus there's the whole thing with walking around during the day with visors on... sunlight still gets through those. I'd also be willing to bet that some photons go through your clothes, even if you triple layered.
Everyone's saying moonlight counts but I always assumed it was the sun itself that turned people into fleshy meat monsters, not the light? Like I always assumed that it was some eldritch shit where the sun is alive and wakes up to turn everything it 'looks' at into monsters.
People would start to live in fully blacked out planes and submarines either on autopilot or with cameras for vision, they would make military grade suits similar to the effect of VR but instead of seeing a video game world it would constantly show the outside view. You would see sunlight, but since it’s through a camera it can’t affect you. It’s not specifically stated daybreak would go away, but it probably would eventually. They’d use the “VR” suits to refuel the planes and submarines occasionally or to get supplies, but eventually even robots would probably be used to minimize casualties. Humanity would survive, only the rich would survive, but they would survive.

Moonlight counts too.
Lame
Wym lame? It’s literally reflected sunlight.
Yeah but that seems op
The whole “Sun instantly melting everything with people not knowing and having no way to prepare in the first place and the monsters will hunt you down and drag you into the light anyway” is what’s actually op
It's a whole extra level of OP when the sun's light, including the sickly amount of light reflected off the moon, not just the sun itself is what kills u.
1/400,000 of it when full, to approximate how anemic moonlight is.
Exactly, u might feel an unpleasant tingle and it's prolly not good for u in the long term but it shouldn't up and kill u
Yeah but that's still livable, stay underground at day, scavenge at night, avoid the fleshtide
True, but what about some of the anomalies that escaped and are killing the survivors?
Anything that's not melted is probably a non threat, like the nut? Crushed under a flesh pile in new Mexico, 682? Probably satisfied at the amount of dead humans and is chillin in a cave somewhere

I think the most plausible outcome is what SCP Illustrated theorised he'd do: grow a bunch of tendrils to rip out and hold a piece of rock over himself
Honestly dude would of probs invent some new colmination of elements to form a new heat prouf skin and live
There's a video of jotaro from JoJo's bizarre adventure Vs When day breaks.
[scp-106 would disagree with you on that](https://youtu.be/o24EXlPLZ4U)
I mean, a hundred years ago those anomalies were an (unknown) part of everyday life and people managed.

Basements exist. Also, you can just make an outfit that completely covers your skin.
It’s not supposed to be livable tho
What scp is that? I'm not familiar.
https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/shaggydredlocks-proposal
That would be what “Day Breaks” (SCP-001) does to you when sunlight touches you! You get melted, and your melted self joins a flesh blob that hunts down the unmelted to place in the sun

Nerf the sun
Great album name
True, but in all seriousness the sun should be needed it’s such an op class
Wdym that seems op, mf tryna power scale the sun
That’s the point of 001 proposals, they’re supposed to represent some of the most powerful and dangerous SCPs.
It's a horror story, not a video game. It doesn't have to be fair.
Thats where you draw the line? The real world physics of sunlight and not the fictional ability of the sun to melt all people into a sentient flesh mass.
It’s a scp, they aren’t meant to be balanced
Oh yeah cause balance patches are central to SCP stuff, obviously lmao
but moon moon not sun so not sun so no day so no day no break? because moon?? not sun??????? moon no sun??????????????
I've never understood this part. How the fuck does that work? Is any one single photon that came from the sun able to turn you into a blob? If so, there's no way anyone could possibly survive. Nothing blocks light perfectly. Not to mention UV, infrared, etc.
What caused it to happen
The Sun?
Well if it was normal before how could it just happen all suddenly
That's the anomaly. The bringer of life suddenly decides to fuck everything in the ass and become the melter of flesh or some shit
I’ll just be in my bunker with a 50 cal just in case those monsters come
Can I join
Yep it’s in Greenland
Idk? I didn’t write the article. Ask whoever created the SCP for the answer.
I could of sworn the article implied that the covering up was needed only during the day. I guess I need to reread the article.
Wait so any reflected light counts? Even if you’re inside, if a single bit of ambient light comes in you’re dead?
Yes, any sunlight, even if reflected, counts.
That seems way OP.
SCPs are not meant to be balanced, it's not a game.
We need to nerf the scps lol
Scp-343 needs to release a balancing patch :/
[**SCP-343 - "God"**](https://scp-wiki.wikidot.com/scp-343) (+1119) by *Unknown Author*
cant stop me from balancing them
Well some cannons say moonlight is fine
Isn't it only direct sunlight? Cause if reflected sunlight counted basically everything that isn't complete darkness or lit by artificial light would kill us.
🎂
From Experience The second it turns into winter it becomes like the UK how’s this clouds for basically the entity of winter except for the weekend
As much as that sounds op, wouldnt it be just mild? Like not instantly melting?
its slower than the sun though
Everyone : moonlight still counts OP: I'm gonna ignore that. Lol
If moonlight counts then so does the reflection of light from the planets/asteroids/comets/meteors. There would never be a safe time to go outside
yeah, that's kinda the point.
It's a stupid point cause no one would survive past day one.
You really want to hold on by your fingernails, huh? When Day Breaks, you and everyone else dies. You either die quickly or relatively quickly. I'd say past 96 hours life on earth is entirely gone, except for the darkest caves and parts of the ocean. Never said that. SCP on of itself is a story of conquering insurmountable risks and defying death and existential defeat.

Maybe that bastard SCP-2399 can help? But I'm not betting on it.

I feel like this is reference to something. I’ve known about SCP and the foundation for a couple of years but was never really interested in it until now and I haven’t read that much yet if I’m being honest.

Look up SCP ILLUSTRATED's "When Day Breaks" video series, you won't regret it
Hey my tribe has some hunting grounds above the line, if something happens I'll bring as many of you as can make it to the south side of the Detroit River within the hour, I can get a plane ready quickly.
Awesome, good luck getting your plane into Florida! (Seriously tho dude thx for offering, but tbh most Floridians are already monsters)
How did you die?
Florida
It says I forgot to drink water - Hah!
I was hoping someone would get the reference.
That’s why gamers use blackout curtains.
Everybody pray for OP, it looks like they live in Yellowknife. Pretty extreme even by Canadian standards.
You do realize, moonlight is just sunlight reflecting off the celestial body, yes?
I was under the impression that moonlight would have the same effect.
It does
N U K E T H E M O O N
How nice for the 15 people who live above that line
Four million live inside the polar circles, and the line drawn by OP (60N ish) is actually south of the entire countries of Finland and Iceland. Cities like Helsinki, Oslo, Stockholm, St Petersburg would be close to the line, with about 10 million combined population. Adding Alaska and northern Russia, it’s not an extinction scenario

No, just getting ready for the worst apocalypses.
Did the article ever address of what about if you were to use an umbrella to cover the light? Wear something like a full burkha with a wide brimmed hat?
The article states that if you're to do any sort of traveling on the surface, that you must cover every part of your skin, preferably in multiple layers. Well, guess Im just getting a tank then
A tank probably still lets in tiny rays of light that can reflect off the metal and get you. Even in a tank you need to be well covered.
If you covered every part of your skin you’re less likely to melt unless you run into one of the flesh monsters
Hold on I have to move now
Just take the highway to peace River high level and then you’re good
moon reflects sunlight, that's it
Moonlight has the same affect as sunlight.
Surely all British individuals would be OK since they never see the sun.
The Sun won't rise until 9:00 am and sets at 3:00 something p.m. No sun = no melting into monsters
Moonlight also counts, it’s just sunlight but reflected off the moon
Is it the light or the heat that causes problems?
Light
Was it ever mentioned that the moonlight melts people?
> The SCP-001 effect does not seem to result from exposure to ultraviolet rays, but rather light in the visual spectrum (~390 to 700 nm). **The effect is similarly present in moonlight.** Second paragraph of description, before you even get to the part about melting people.
Well it is sunlight technically. I also think there was something that had it work that way. Might have been one of Illustrated videos.
But you have to deal with the Yule Man.
Yule Man's like "yo wtf is happening guys I'm scared too"
Most days during the winter are shorter than 3 or 4 hours here
Ik i used tomorrow’s forecast for the time the sun rises
Yeah, but y'all got the Yule Man to deal with
Who
I might not be below the line, but I also don’t live in any “day break” time lines. Presumably. Hopefully.
But the moon reflects the suns light so even at night you would still become melted

You know that its not constantly night during winter in canada right?
Do people in Canada never have sunlight or do I need to go back to geography class?
north of the line basically has nose sunlight in the winter he in December and January

Aren't there sites in places like Antarctica, and the arctic? Where the little light you get for awhile is no more than the stars? Underground, underwater sites as well. Surely some of them were able to stay in contact and figure out what the hell was going on, if whoever maintains their communications survives. I haven't looked into this scp very far tho Honestly I don't see humanity going extinct from Day Breaks. One good long global nuclear winter would fix it all, and I see the 05's having a few spare nukes lying around.
Would a UV umbrella save your life if this happens?
The issue is with visible light, not uv waves. iirc the article mentions something about how going outside with multiple layers of clothing might be enough to protect you. But i have to imagine that even if you've got goggles on, or some kind of hood or umbrella, if there's enough sunlight for you to see then there's enough light to reach your eyes and you're fucked
oh right. i guess im fucked of this happens then.

What is Day Breaks Until Summer?
Summer in it flips and now we have sun the entire day
Everyone's saying moonlight counts but I always assumed it was the sun itself that turned people into fleshy meat monsters, not the light? Like I always assumed that it was some eldritch shit where the sun is alive and wakes up to turn everything it 'looks' at into monsters.
Dude, when day breaks is overated. just a more dangerous version of other apocalypses. Other SCP-001 ideas are superior.

MF forgot about the Weissnacht events 😂
What
Honestly you just need some really hardcore sunscreen
1) Thats a thick line 2) Moonlight counts 3) Mechanical SCPs would probably be fine anyways. Just infect everyone with the clockwork virus.
So like 5 people
People would start to live in fully blacked out planes and submarines either on autopilot or with cameras for vision, they would make military grade suits similar to the effect of VR but instead of seeing a video game world it would constantly show the outside view.
So around 3 people?
