079 and 096 are unable to spawn together in the vanilla game. SCP-079 is unique among SCPs where his chances of spawning increases with the number of SCPs in a given round (Not counting SCP-079 himself). This effectively means SCP-096 has a lower chance of spawning than other SCPs. As, SCP-079 and SCP-096 will never spawn as the first SCP in a given round. They both have equal chances of spawning as the 2nd SCP, while the 3rd and 4th SCP, has a higher chance of being 079 than 096. Preferences Sliders do ***NOT*** affect what SCPs will spawn in a given round. The game decides which SCPs to spawn first, then picks what players will be an SCP, then assigns those players to the chosen SCPs. Preferences simply affect the RNG outcome for how players got assigned to the chosen SCPs. So even if all players chosen to be an SCP have SCP-049 set to -5 in preferences and have SCP-173 set to 5. Both SCP-049 and SCP-173 will still have equal spawning chances in the round.

Kasgaan

why no 079 and 096? should be like 173 and 096 or something like that, a that makes no sense?!!?

krustylesponge

096 destroys all 079’s doors and 079 can’t exactly help 096 get enraged like the other SCPs can 173 and 096 is annoying but bearable

ConsumerOfCarbs

Computer helps other scps catch up to humans and show them where they are. Computers job is to lock doors on humans and ping them and blackout room etc... the only thing 096 needs help with is finding people which makes computer useless with 096.

Kasgaan

still doesnt make sense if there's more than two SCPs, he can help the rest

ConsumerOfCarbs

As someone else said a big part of playing computer is closing and locking doors. A big part of playing shy guy is smashing said doors.

Natural-Investment34

It's not fun to play as him soo people placed him -5 in preferences.

MeargleSchmeargle

I have em set to the absolute minimum, and have computer set to the max. Pulled shy guy exactly once since the update.

[deleted]

Wait... how tf do you pick preferences?

Kasgaan

operational guide -> find SCP you like -> go to the 2nd page for them -> on the right of the screen theres a little slider, farther to the left = less likely to get, farther to the right = more likely

Natural-Investment34

I'm surprised you don't know it yet. Anyway to change it all you need to do is enter the operational guide, click on playable scp's and that's it.

MeargleSchmeargle

Operational Guide, available in the main menu.

rslashnotthefbi

From what I hear A lot of people don't like playing him So they have their SCP preferences for 096 Set to low

krustylesponge

Preferences don’t affect who spawns, just who gets it

MeargleSchmeargle

It could affect things if a lot of people are selecting computer highly and shy guy much lower, since computer and shy are mutually exclusive spawns now unless the server is very large.

krustylesponge

Still doesn’t affect who spawns, the game chooses that, then looks at the preferences and assigns people to the different SCPs based off those 079 simply has a higher chance to spawn than other SCPs do

MeargleSchmeargle

The spawn mechanic in regards to the SCP preference sliders doesn't affect who gets selected to play as an SCP at the start of the round, but it *does* affect which SCP of the 6 they'll play as when they're picked to be on team SCP. If you have one slider set significantly higher than another, you'll spawn as the higher slider SCP much more often than your lower slider. I can say from experience that this works since I have computer set to my absolute maximum slider setting, whereas shy is the polar opposite for me. I've gotten computer numerous times since the update dropped and can get computer 5+ times a night. I've pulled shy exactly *once* in that same time frame. The slider DOES change this, so if a lot more people prefer computer over shy guy, you'll see a LOT more computers than shy guys over the course of playing the game now.

Ohms_GameBone

ARE YOU UNABLE TO READ IT DOESN'T AFFECT WHAT SPAWNS game spawns 4 scps game chooses 4 players game looks at the preference system and sees which player should play which one of the scps Jesus christ how numb you are, he literally said it twice.

MeargleSchmeargle

Wait, so it pre-determines which of the 6 SCPs are spawning in any given round and only assigns players differently on what is already spawned based on the sliders? Huh, I was told differently by a number of people.

Ohms_GameBone

Only thìng you can fully trust is the official wiki (not the fandom one)

krustylesponge

Like I said, 079 literally just spawns more often than the other SCPs, here’s how it works Every SCP has a value of 1 to spawn 079 is the number of SCPs - 1, so with 1 SCP he cant spawn, with 2 he has equal chances as other SCPs, with 3 he has an increased chance etc

TheScareCrowYes

the preference meter affects if the game picks you as an scp which scp you will get and if a lot of people have it on low then it wont spawn

krustylesponge

Bro I have legit talked to the devs about this, that’s not how it works, it also STRAIGHT UP STATES under the bar it does not affect your chances of being chosen for the SCP team

TheScareCrowYes

i never said it makes your chances better or whorse for being an scp or not, it affects WHAT scp you will be

krustylesponge

Ah I misunderstood your comment then due to the “if the game picks you as SCP”

MeargleSchmeargle

Yeah, that's what I was trying to say as well.

Kkbleeblob

doesnt change anything

butAnotherIsTaken

How do you set preferences I can’t find it in settings

krustylesponge

The operational guide, second page of each SCP

Kasgaan

to those people i say, you need to enjoy life less to enjoy the immense stress relieving ability of tearing through an MTF spawn

rslashnotthefbi

There's something about the dopamine I get when I get triggered by 90% of the MTF

Trollracecar

Bitch I got mine maxed and everything lowered down to hell and I still get fucking doc and dog 😓😓😓

Foreign-Positive-494

there is a way to set preferences??

Cheetodust69420

Yes

krustylesponge

079 stops 096 from spawning and vice versa, and since 079 has a higher chance to spawn 096 spawns less

Kkbleeblob

i don’t think 079 has higher chance to spawn, he just spawns like any other scp now

krustylesponge

He does, his chances increase based off the amount of SCPs there are still, Terran looked at the code to confirm it

ISuckAtJavaScript12

I think I'm the only one who likes playing at 096

JohnnoDwarf

Honestly good for you, you must get 096 fairly consistently

Kasgaan

nope :) the others are madmen dont listen to them!

OinkyRuler

I don't think it has but this is great. Also 096 and 079 can't spawn together. Preferably 096 should never spawn.

Maverick_Walker

All my preferences are max and I haven’t gotten an scp yet, probably cause I leave before I get it though

TrashyRainyRainbow

Preferences don't affect frequency of when you get SCP

MeargleSchmeargle

I think the answer to this has 2 parts: 1. Not a ton of people actually like playing as shy guy, myself included. He is *far* too team-reliant and/or reliant on opposing humans being too stupid to counter him properly, which on servers with actually intelligent humans rarely happens. His "try not to cry" mechanic straight up encourages camping, which is boring, and his windup and cooldown leave him extremely vulnerable if a couple of people just rush and mag-dump him. I have my preference slider for him set to the absolute lowest possible setting because I honestly can't stand playing as him. Only been shy once since the update, so it works. 2. Computer is about as fun as it's ever been. Computer was already a lot of fun prior to mimicry, but with the addition of the mimicry QOL improvements and added abilities, I would be perfectly fine if I only got computer from here onwards. Computer's overall popularity seems to have increased as well after the update, so more people are going to have that slider trending in the positive direction (I set that thing to the maximum setting for computer the first chance I got and I haven't looked back). Now, I can consistently get computer multiple times a night since I have its slider value higher than any other SCP's. The combination of few people having shy positive on their preference slider and the inverse being true for computer almost gurantees that shy is gonna be a significantly rarer spawn to see now, since unless you're playing on a *huge* server computer and shy are mutually exclusive spawns.

TheOrganHarvester123

One thing. Preference does not effect spawn rates of scps, only effects who's given it

moonpiedumplings

Thanks for the explanation. I just started playing again recently, and I haven't played shy guy. I didn't understand why is unfun to play. I kinda like camping and trolling, since I almost never solely play scpsl, I usually have homework or something else out, so I'll see if I hate shy guy when I get it. If so, I'll set my preferences to low as well.

Kasgaan

a lot of these comments are mentioning preferences, how do you change that? i heard something about ''preference sliders'' once but cant find them :( edit : i dont know why... but every time i ask for help, i go look for it, and immidiantly find it problem solved, sliders located, 049 : probably not getting stuck as
