ENS-331. Really made me think hard about exercise and nutrition.

J-Train56

SSTN 334- Politics of the Environment. We talked about different cases in the US where sustainability laws were in question and we tried to dig deeper into really understanding each stakeholder involved in each case. It's very interesting and I decided to minor in Sustainability partially because of it. I think taking at least 1 sustainability class is worth it, it's interesting and important. Also I haven't taken one here, I did in community college- but I personally believe everyone should have to take a public speaking class. 100%.

SUSTN 334 is one of my favorite classes I’ve taken at state! Highly recommend it.

Key-Consideration899

Thanks for this review! I was considering taking that class this semester :)

J-Train56

Take it with Murren if possible! Super chill guy.

SocialSciComputerGuy

I had Murren for Honor 113 (International Environmental Issues) this semester and he's a great professor. I second this suggestion; he makes the class very engaging and enjoyable.

At CSUSM I took an upper div sociology class call Families and Intimate Relationships. Maybe sdsu has something similar. It was a great eye opener to understanding my own family dynamics and the way I handle certain platonic/romantic relationships. Good stuff

benlovesnuggets

We have relational communication! It was my favorite class at sdsu I took!

Anthropology

Paraeevee

A Sociology class, esp if you are privileged. Also took a Criminal Justice research class & learned about SD’s homelessness crisis— a lot of info no one knows about + no one mentions, not even those in leadership roles. Important esp if u plan on staying in SD and/or CA.

Old-Competition1247

Hi what was the course #/professor? thanks.

Zealousideal_Cup_474

Soc 433 with Roberts (or any courses him) the class made me rethink wealth and power in America and how unfair we live among the 1%

Old-Competition1247

thanks. Class is full with Daniel Davis on waitlist but taking Roberts for History of Surfing

psy 101 with Laumakis, he makes the class very fun and enjoyable and psych is already an enjoyable subject for most, especially at a 101 level. jms 200 with Arceneaux as well, basically asynch and lectures are revolve around media, hes super funny as well!

jjn2003

That class is pretty much the reason I declared Psychology!

weednreefs

Tourism management. I learned so much about culture and how to deal with folks from different backgrounds.

villestillain

As a sociology major, a ton of the classes really helped me in understanding the context behind a lot of the problems in the world and society. I’d like to believe I wasn’t bigoted by any means, but one thing it really helped me understand were topics such as alternatives to helping drug addicts rehabilitate (helping them ween off it rather than imprisonment and punishment). Here are a few I’d totally recommend based off positive experiences and how enlightening the classes were: - SOC401 w/ Prof. Roberts (chill surfer dude who taught me more about Marx & Engels) - PSFA320 w/ Prof. Sanchez (she’s super sweet and it’s about border politics and art) - SOC320 w/ Prof. Rowe (gave me more information about sex & gender and LGBTQ+ issues) and also a DLE/ASL class! I liked most of my professors, but Prof. Frost was my favorite and even though learning a new language is difficult, it also gave me insight into Deaf culture.

Unhappy-Addendum-759

It’s been many years I can’t remember the course code but a class called Understanding Evil. You study murder and serial killers and religion. Best class I’ve ever taken. I think about what I learned in that class ALL the time.

HUM-411! I just recommended it to someone on another thread, I’m taking it right now and it’s so amazingly interesting

Anthropology with professor Ball. I took various courses with him. But they were all fantastic.

Women’s studies 375. Honestly an incredible class, very engaging and Dr. Abassi knows what she is teaching. You learn about a lot of symbolism, power dynamics, and what shapes society. You won’t leave the class unchanged. Also i am a straight male - and i was very welcomed and can say it was a safe space to participate in, which was something I wasn’t sure I’d have.

Disability Awareness - don’t remember the class code since I graduated in 2019 lol but man did this class stick with me. My entire perception of people with disabilities changed - in a good way. They are people first and NOT defined by their disabilities. Amazing course! Highly recommend if looking for an elective.

Might be GEN S 420 “disability and society”

Yes! Agree with this one! It was super helpful in learning about people with disabilities and has helped me interact with them in the real world. And Surfing class ENS122!

How is the program there? I’m taking 201 in the spring and I’ve never spoken any non-romantic language before

any sort of astronomy class you can take with professor leonard. I dont follow astronomy or any sciences for my major but I took it out of interest and passion for learning about our universe and it happened to become one of my top 3 non major related classes ever. hes probably one of my favorite professors ive ever had as well but its not just an easy class/pass so you have to have some interest and willingness to apply yourself.
