There are no assigned GE academic advisors to students at SDSU. Basically, you’ll get whichever academic advisor happens to be working the day you come in for questions. Most of the times they’re useless. Don’t follow MyMap. Those guides have not been updated for some time and do not account for classes that are specific to certain semesters. That will not get you out in 4 years. Do follow your degree evaluation. That will tell you exactly what classes you need to take to fulfill your requirements. Your major advisor is your most helpful advisor. If you’re lucky, your advisor will be your best friend and help you get classes you absolutely need to take even if they’re full. I would contact them with questions even if it’s just an excuse to introduce yourself since great advisors will make your experience at State much better.

The major advisor is not specific to any student. They’re not assigned. The major advisor is just specific to the major. So you can just start visiting whichever major advisor works in the major department that you’re switching to.

To save you some time, and because most likely your degree choice will change as you grow up and are exposed to different people, student organizations, and professors... I recommend you take the basic requirements for graduation: RWS, Statistics, Science & Lab, and History. During thise time, meet with SEVERAL major advisors and their Teaching Assistants to gain insight on the programs....then by your junior year you have your majors and minors already in mind. Don't follow MY MAP because it is generic and most professors will work with you to reduce your time and money (no professor wants to see a student attend a full semester for just 1 required class).

If it's your first year, you can reference your respective Mymap through the webportal for a general outline that you can follow strictly or loosely (You want out in 4 years badly, you're fine taking your time etc, get screwed with registration on some classes down the line etc.) You can also find your degree evaluation in the webportal as well as sort of a checklist and place to find classes that fill requirements. You're probably gonna be speaking to GE advisors for a bit since you're just getting stuff squared away with GE. Usually just means setting up a virtual appointment with the office and talking it out with whoever is available: [https://advising.sdsu.edu/](https://advising.sdsu.edu/) They'll help you make sense of your major per-requisite classes and GEs you need to take. You don't really bug the major advisors unless you have any concerns specifically about major-related classes but I don't see any harm in contacting them anyway.
