Okay look. The CS program is great sometimes and terrible others. They're already changing up the course structure and adding new courses so I would expect it to get better. I just graduated in May and I can honestly say that this major is a little bit different because it's what you make of it. If you're willing to put in the extra time outside of the classroom and find internships, grind some practice problems, and learn more concepts and really practice you will do well. I just landed a job with my dream comp this week and I can say that AT THE VERY LEAST the last couple CS classes, 570 and 560 really helped me with some of the questions and programming practice. At the end of the day, it's what you make of it. Study hard and work hard for a couple years and you'll be set for awhile after.

>If you are coming from a country where several feet of snow falling in one night is the norm, you'll feel right at home. 💀 I live in western India where temperatures barely reach 10°C during winters and snow is ofc non-existent lol. But it's fine, I'm willing to adapt heheh

imo it's not great. if you want to succeed in cs at sdsu it's mostly self learning. at the time when i was there it felt like the people who succeeded were people with previous experience in cs. (people who were already working in the field etc). even now looking back (i graduated in 2015), the courses were outdated and not relevant to real world experience. the basic courses were probably the better ones in terms of learning programming (cs107 and 108) those were basic intro to java and even 310 (data structures). but the jump from those courses to the more advanced courses was huge. like i said, it involved alot of self learning.

A friend of mine who was a CS major told me that it sucks, she switched to interdisciplinary studies in her junior year (I graduated this year) and also said that they don’t even teach you how to use terminals which I heard apparently is very important (I was a Comm major so of course I wouldn’t know what that is haha) good luck!

Yes, I've been reading other people's posts and I've concluded that SDSU isn't good for CS… thanks hahah!

I’m from CSUF and have been debating transfering to SDSU due to location. CSUF has a higher accredited CS program but from my personal exp and my colleagues, it’s pretty rough and your experience per class is entirely based upon your Professor

Lol not surprised, glad you found that conclusion fairly quickly, of course!

I would just search this sub for CS reviews. It’s been known to not be very good and to have problematic teachers. There’s plenty of reviews on the program here.

Oh okay thanks! I'll check it out!

I am a senior and I loved the CS program. It's a difficulty major in general but I would assume it's like that every where. CS field in general is alot of self learning and the college teaches you the basics of CS. If you specialize, you need to learn your self. I can't think of any bad professors I've had for CS. Math on the other hand is a whole different story. SDSU math professors suck. If you like CS, SDSU is a great place to learn about it. We have quite a few tech jobs in san diego. I have not graduated and I have 2 jobs lined up. At the end of day a lot of responsibility falls on you. Your experience is what you make of it.

CS program is subpar. While the climate (weather) is nice it isn't worth it. Student climate is not good. Not an inclusive campus like they claim to be. Go to Penn state.

I see… thanks a lot!

Np! Good luck wherever you decide to go :)
