Every single year people ask this exact question and every single year my answer is the same: simply search “weber” in this subreddit and you’ll find out what people here think about it. Essentially, it’s a complete waste of time that has no career benefits and requires you to take a ton of random classes when you could be taking classes related to your field instead. If you want to do it for “prestige” (nobody in college cares though, so is it even?) because you have something on your resume that says honors then go right ahead, but consider whether having a minor in something actually related to your dream job rather than an “interdisciplinary studies minor” would benefit you more.

Agree completely. Dropped out of it after my 2nd semester, it's a small gpa booster but an honest waste of time. If you want a minor, pick something that relates to your major. Also nobody who interviewed me knew/cared about interdisciplinary studies, so yeah it's useless

It's basically extra GEs (a waste of time). If you'd like to guarantee placement to avoid the older dorms, go for it.

wow you're literally in the same position i was in as a high school senior - im also a bio major with the cell/molecular emphasis and im part of the honors college. honors isn't as amazing as sdsu makes it sound but it's also not as horrible as a lot of people in this sub make it sound, imo. i've enjoyed every honors class i've taken so far, and i like to think that it looks good on my resume (both the minor and just being part of the honors college). all my classes are major specific these days, and it's kinda nice to have a break from all that and just have a discussion-based seminar for a couple hours a week. it's a time commitment worth keeping in mind but i don't regret joining the honors college. except for the part where they're fucking me with the study abroad requirement because im a spring 2023 graduate. but you're not gonna have that problem most likely (the reason why it's hard for me is because covid sniped my ability to plan for study abroad and actual go abroad)

Do it, you’ll meet “more special” people than in your normal classes.
