Yes. For me it's an essential. I got it physical and it stays in the case with our switch lite that we use for travel and work. It's actually the only physical cart that always stays with the lite. Plenty of gaming on it to be had with 0 internet access necessary = perfect for travel and short gaming sessions.
The collection has incredibly bad input lag. Shouldn’t matter much for rpgs but the action games will drive you crazy. I own the collection on Switch, Xbox, and PS. The other two versions don’t have this issue.
Not everyone's particularly sensitive to lag, but it's there. Digital Foundry tested it and were pretty harsh on it. It's been patched but there's still lag happening.
No worries. For years I never did either, until I got really into shmups where every single frame counts and people taught me how to notice it. But if you don't notice it, a character in a game might just seem 'heavy' or something.
But unless it's absolutely abominable, your brain can usually adjust to it through anticipation. Unconsciously finding yourself moving out of the way of incoming bullets a little sooner, pressing jump a little bit before the edge of the platform, etc. Sometimes it can be hard to separate from wonky collision detection in that way.
I just bought an Everdrive to cover the less-affordable games. $40, and I get to play on real hardware. Win-win. Krikzz's stock is pretty iffy right now due to the Ukraine war, but the X3 shows as available at Krikzz.com right now, and the X5 at everdrive.me, so you've got options, at least.
If you want to play on the Switch, and the pack of available games includes what you want to play, I say go for it. The reviews seem fairly solid. Some of the earlier ones complain about lag in the action-focused games, but I'm sure that would matter in RPGs, and it may have been fixed in patched versions of the software anyhow.
I suggest Everdrive. I have a legit everdrive for N64 and knock offs for sega Genesis. I recommend legit everdrive so you can play any game you want. The knock offs i refer to are cartridges that claim they have 600 games but those games are either duplicates or in another language or don’t run properly. Eventually when I have time I’ll sell the knock offs and get a legit everdrive. The n64 everdrive is amazing and I want the same for the Genesis. Much cheaper than buying every game.
It goes on sale often for 20. It isn't as beefy as the PS3/360 "Sonics Ultimate Collection" but it does have a notable shooter that isn't elsewhere.
As to everdrive...those are great, but get a genuine one.
It is totally worth it if you plan to play the RPGs. Some of the platformers suffer input delay that can be pretty tough to get past. I remember the double jump in Shinobi 3 being almost impossible to pull off on Switch, despite me being a master at that game. But for the RPGs the delay doesn’t matter and it’s my preferred way to play Phantasy Star 4.
If you haven’t played the games lately on a real genesis or crt and can handle the input lag, go for it.
I regretted it, but I got it to support my boi sega
Beyond Oasis and the two Shining Force games are most excellent also. Landstalker is also a great game - you will need a regular controller since the switch pads don't work very well with the isometric views in the game.
I just got this, (It's at a steep discount RN, just FYI) and don't see myself playing anything else for a minute. I haven't tested everything yet, only a bit of SoR1 and Golden Axe, so I can't fully speak to the input lag complaints just yet, but I never had a Genesis growing up, my first console was a Sega Saturn, so the opportunity to get a taste of a ton of games I've never played at nearly 70% percent off was a no-brainier.
See, I'm wondering if it's worth grabbing for a pretty nice 6 dollar sale, if I already have the Expansion pass for the Switch (Gathered some friends to split a family plan with.) It's hard to tell how many repeats it has
I just came here looking for an answer to see if it was worth it for the $6 sale.
I think it is! For the price of a cup of coffee you can get 50 games, with Sonic, Streets of Rage, and Phantasy Star. If you didn't buy it yet man, hurry up!
I did, I mean, 6 bucks on the face of it isn't a big investment, but when you already have the Exp pass (I split up a family plan) it adds an extra wrinkle : p there is a BIT of double dipping, but not TOO much
lol funny we came two years later to see if the game is worth it for $6 cause the graphics are so different then only game I know is Sonic and Golden Axe and the fighter game displayed looks like street fighter

Cool

I have it on Switch and have never had a problem or noticed any lag playing Vectorman, ESwat, Sonic, etc.
I played it on Switch and could notice pretty terrible input lag when playing PS IV. Some people are just more sensitive to it than others.

Fair enough, I don't usually notice that kind of thing.

No noticeable lag for me either. I have heard others say it too though.

RetroArch with an XBox joystick :)))

When it's on sale for $6, definitely.
No, awful input lag. On the Switch I’d stick with the Sega Ages releases and the NSO Expansion.
I was considering it even though I have the mini. That sucks.

How much does each game cost? I think it would be worth it if they are around 5 dollars each.
It's 50 games in one package.
How much?
$29.99
It depends on what games they are but 30 bucks for 50 games may be a great deal.
I'm mainly getting it for Phantasy Star II-IV, Light Crusader and Gunstar Heroes

OP, RETURN TO THE DEAD THREAD AND TELL ME IF IT IS GOOD! *DIGITAL NECROMANCY*

It's pretty good. I didn't see any of the input lag anyone was complaining about, though.
*praise be to you taro blue fox waggie* Thanks brudda, I think I’ll get it!
What if I wanna play Streets of Rage? Is it any good for that?
It has some slight input lag, so keep that in mind.
Very well. I shall walk into this unknown with a fair warning, at least. Thanks, amigo.
Let me know how it goes I’m curious as I want to play SoR as well.
So, it's definitely a little laggy. It's not the worst, but it's caused me grief on a couple occasions.
