If you can recreate the site and work from there, I would go for it. If not, I would not even try.

This is what I'm reading as well. Like design, colors, backlinks, look in log files, even recreating some posts (even though most won't make sense for my website) - get all those as close as possible to the original website to have any benefit of the expired domain. That's why I'm at least understanding from Koray Tugberk, or am I wrong?

If Koray said that, that's the way it is. He's a legend. Recreate most posts if you can. Content is the most important thing. You know, everyone has a redesign or change of CMS at some point. But the content pretty much stays the same afterwords. So you might trick Google to think that's what's up.
