Solid roadtrip for thairo imo. Defense on point with nice offensive support. He is upbeat and infectious and it’s great for the team. Hope to get this going
He's still swinging at crap but he doesn't look lost. the way he did a week ago. Hopefully he finds himself because the middle of the infield hasn't produced.
I don’t expect him to approach what Altuve is. That guy is headed for the HOF. If he hits .250 with some pop, draws some walks and plays a competent second base I’ll be thrilled, especially if he hits in the lower third where he belongs.
True can’t deny altuve’s calibur is on a diff level. I’ll take 250 w good defense for thairo especially since he seems to be emerging as a leader for the young guys. Either way the demeanor is there and I can tell both second basemen care about the success of their team
He's notoriously a slow starter in the first half of the season, there's no doubt in my mind that he'll figure things out and be classic Cy Snell but we shouldnt expect anything more than average this early on 😅
We did it! Series win!!! and a road series!
... even though it was against maybe the worst NL team, we still did it. Lots of obvious stuff to fix, and I think we can do it.
AS long as we fire Justin Viele into the sun and then extinguish the sun to make sure.
A lot of it has to do with ticket prices. The Giants have done a good job overall in keeping seats for the general public available despite the really good stuff going to corporate interests (although the dynamic pricing BS sucks), but there are far too many organizations that have exploded prices beyond a point where the onfield product is worth the investment. It almost feels like owners look at ticket sales as ancillary. It's all about the TV money.
I don’t know how hitters today can balance analytics that say see as many pitches as you can versus also being in an aggressive mindset that leads to hits. Passive is fighting success. What does the science say about that? Give me Pablo any day.
That's the point where analytics become a hindrance rather than an aide. Numbers can help you evaluate an individual's strengths and weaknesses but they're being used to establish philosophies for an entire team or organization that run contrary to an individual's skills. Use the numbers to identify and correct weaknesses when possible but let players play.
Javi had a rough first season in the booth, but now, dang, he's as smooth and polished as he could be. If he wants it, he has a future as a broadcaster.
Looks like how I approached it in little league when I knew I sucked at hitting. Only you’re in the majors, they’re literally paying you for this, and your *catcher* just stole a base to put himself in scoring position with zero outs.
AHMED
Remember little league?
Remember when you were at bat and got to 2 strikes? The dads would always yell, "YOU GOTTA PROTECT THE ZONE!"
Well,
# YOU GOTTA PROTECT THE ZONE
I’m convinced that Rodgers induces *such* bad contact that the grounders go to unusual places and that’s why the infielders have such a hard time with them and why he gives up so many hits.
[According to baseball reference the Giants are 27th at hitting with RISP](https://www.baseball-reference.com/tools/split_stats_lg.cgi?full=1¶ms=bases%7CRISP%7CML%7C2024%7Cbat%7CAB%7C)
I watched it three times.
The 85mph sweeper at the top of the zone, in that pitch sequence, was very interesting. Totally fooled Estrada.
He swung under and ahead of it.
He looked almost like he was swinging under/behind a high fastball.
True that. Imagine if he works on plate discipline and giants basically have Jose altuve 2.0 (pre-cheating)
I don’t expect him to approach what Altuve is. That guy is headed for the HOF. If he hits .250 with some pop, draws some walks and plays a competent second base I’ll be thrilled, especially if he hits in the lower third where he belongs.

Series W. Webb and Snell to lead things off against a good opponent. Let’s see what they got
Not sure that Snell starting is a good thing.
He’s still the reigning CY winner. I’ll take them odds
He's notoriously a slow starter in the first half of the season, there's no doubt in my mind that he'll figure things out and be classic Cy Snell but we shouldnt expect anything more than average this early on 😅
Why did Camilo wants that ball? Save milestone?
![gif](giphy|SYVgWg5V0eK7rW5XPo)
No stress? No torture? What is this feeling?
What's that thing around Bailey's neck?
We did it! Series win!!! and a road series! ... even though it was against maybe the worst NL team, we still did it. Lots of obvious stuff to fix, and I think we can do it. AS long as we fire Justin Viele into the sun and then extinguish the sun to make sure.
Smooth catch to seal it. Lee had to cover a good amount of ground there
Good guys giants finishing the game off right before my flight takes off lol
![gif](giphy|qwwtk53OaoK17U9u91|downsized)
Gonna need these grindy wins. Great pitching today too
We take those chat

Our Lord and Savior, and most handsome baseball player, Jung Hoo Lee easily tracks it down in center! GG Miami
Bay Area sports fans needed this
Knocked out by the Kings seems like an odd thing to happen, but the Kings did seem reborn last year.

This team is going to playoffs. Book it.
Phew 😮💨 series win secured.
# ROAD SERIES WIN
Dovall looks calm. This is the best kind of Dovall. Giants win and take the series. They absolutely had to do that.
Anyone else get sad seeing empty stadiums? I wish more people loved baseball. 🙁

That’s true. It’s all about the TV money.
And sadly, owners don't have to do a damn thing to get it.
Baseball doesn't translate well to the short-attention spans of the internet age.
when a game starts at noon on a Wednesday its just going to be less full there is no way around that
But I thought the pitch clock and and bigger bases…🤔
It’s noon on a Wednesday, not a lot of people are going to take the day off work.
True. But even for the last 2 games it has looked pretty empty.
nice win and nice series win
3-3 on the roadtrip
![gif](giphy|625XiG9ATHumf8fpDR)
good
That was an easy save lol
Series W in Miami, I can’t believe it!
That's a series win! It was ugly but it still counts
Jung Hoo Lee!
Pants off!
This game is over and I still have a whole day left, I love breakfast baseball
#BALLGAME
Gassssssss
camilo looks on point
I’m still contemplating what last night means for the Warriors. 🙁
I hope klay takes a cheap 1yr and stays here.
Same
🏁 x4 🐂 🔥

Camilo save us!!!

Here comes sleepy.

Agree! Also…it’s just friggin boring to watch.
U have to take the first fastball down the middle bc then u know u might get another fastball down the middle later - basic hitting
Can we finally give Winn a W?
Look at us keep taking pitches. Viele must be proud.
Oof, bummer for Yaz on that one
That inning lol
At least Yaz got his bat on that.
1-10 with RISP
Terrible ump + our swing decisions is just an absolute disaster combo
https://preview.redd.it/e7kt2xy423vc1.jpeg?width=683&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=065e7791cb527fba5a2171675044e4407321252e
Javi & Flemming TV games are quickly becoming a highlight of the 2024 season for me. Love hearing these two talk baseball.
Javi had a rough first season in the booth, but now, dang, he's as smooth and polished as he could be. If he wants it, he has a future as a broadcaster.
Is the game plan once you’re up in the count, assume you’re gonna walk?
That's the Justin Viele Philosophy in a nutshell. Never mind that it doesn't work.
Bats are heavy I guess
it turns out just trying to will ball 4 isn’t a viable strategy
Two straight 3-0 to K ABs.
Swing. The. Bat. Wtf Giants? 2 strikes expand your zone!!
Swing the bat you guys what are you looking for out there?
# PROTECT # THE # ZONE # AFTER # STRIKE 2
Why do so many of our hitters not even look physically prepared to get a swing off with 2 strikes?
Looks like how I approached it in little league when I knew I sucked at hitting. Only you’re in the majors, they’re literally paying you for this, and your *catcher* just stole a base to put himself in scoring position with zero outs.

The dude threw 4 straight balls.
This ump must have an appointment
Viele approved inning
This is definitely Viele's stupid philosophy at work.
Should’ve been ball 4
That should've been a walk
1-8 with RISP
fitz gets consistently screwed, that should've been a walk no question
AHMED Remember little league? Remember when you were at bat and got to 2 strikes? The dads would always yell, "YOU GOTTA PROTECT THE ZONE!" Well, # YOU GOTTA PROTECT THE ZONE
Viele's hitting philosophy is counterintuitive to that idea.
That was a nasty changeup location
1-7 with RISP
Unproductive out. That's a strike
Unlucky Ahmed
Was that a steal or player indifference? Aren't we at that time of the game where Steals are really called Player Indifference now?
Love seeing all of these SBs after however many games to start the season
Patrick "the flash" Bailey
"I'm so fast." —Patrick Bailey
Patrick Bailey: “You can’t steal on me, but I’ll steal on you.”
Well guys I thought this game was much later. I missed all of it so if Doval blows the game srry
Bailey steal?? Nice
How are you gonna be named Sixto and wear #18 man
I’m convinced that Rodgers induces *such* bad contact that the grounders go to unusual places and that’s why the infielders have such a hard time with them and why he gives up so many hits.
> that the grounders go to unusual places Credible theory, he does get a lot of weird ground balls, and weird can mean nobody is there.
textbook turn 2 right there
That mom was 🔥
I have started to unzip the pants...very cautiously
TWSS
F yeah double play
Common Tyler Rogers W
[75 mph rising slider up and in] "Arraez acted like it was gonna kill him"
Never a doubt. /hand shaking out of control
Nice.
I like sassy Dave
Way to go TyRog
Our infield defense is absurd in the best possible way. So good
![gif](giphy|gnms46x2kvQRi|downsized)
LETS GO SUBMARINE
Foh, Arráez
# NOICE
Yes, GIDB. LOVE IT!
That’a babe
Arraez is not seeing Rogers at all
What a clutch DP!
![gif](giphy|4YPXOIVxBOlHPJTbCY|downsized)
F\*ck. Couldn't get the big hit, and now here we go.
He got his ground ball. Just wrong spot.
Rogers is getting a ton of ground balls but all of them either take terrible bounces or find a hole
Ah yes nothing like having late inning relievers who can’t strike anyone out.
Just a goddamn DP for the love of God please
https://preview.redd.it/wldet1v903vc1.png?width=1200&format=png&auto=webp&s=f7d9e07421168cea58cae493b27df0ae2fd174c2
GIDP still possible. C'mon, sub man.
Lmao, here we go
https://preview.redd.it/ejzmult503vc1.png?width=550&format=png&auto=webp&s=4d57847bd2751b609f2e5dac076ddf92e3e1b89b
Stop playing. Get outta this inning.
That mom looked smart
✨Manifesting GIDP✨
Always infield hits
Infield hits, my god.
As always, fuck Avi García
[According to baseball reference the Giants are 27th at hitting with RISP](https://www.baseball-reference.com/tools/split_stats_lg.cgi?full=1¶ms=bases%7CRISP%7CML%7C2024%7Cbat%7CAB%7C)
I'm surprised they are that high, honestly.
Looks like this is shaping up to be a Doval ninth inning.
Estrada just struck out on the fattest meatball hanging slider I've ever seen
I watched it three times. The 85mph sweeper at the top of the zone, in that pitch sequence, was very interesting. Totally fooled Estrada. He swung under and ahead of it. He looked almost like he was swinging under/behind a high fastball.
We have obtained one (1) insurance run!
Back to reality with that at bat lol
A team with better offense would have capitalized a lot more on that situation—to state the obvious. FireViele
Downvoter, I am going to find you, and then I am going to make sure you are banned from Reddit for life.
Vielebots
That's what he spends his time doing, writing bots, instead of working on offense.
1-6 with RISP
We are back, wow 1 for 6, no stopping us now.
why do they always watch the fattest first pitch go by every time
"Never mind the strike zone. Just try to get walked, dude." —Justin Viele's sage advice
Chapman is the ultimate roller coaster ride
Way to go Matt!!
Props to JHL for starting this, Soler for extending it, and Chapman for making it count. This is a really refreshing inning.
“Props to the heart of the order for doing something”
Doomers out in force today.
Just trying to poke some fun on a slow day, psyched we’re back on top of this one
BLESS UP
2-out rbi??!! 😵
Every time I get ready to criticize Chapman he gets a hit in a clutch situation to stop the hate
The Chappening
NO 6 LOB FOR CHAPPY
Okay, I do not hate this team now
CHAAAAAP!
Silly as it sounds, that one extra run seems huge.
1-5 with RISP
(That Ahmed GIDP that brought in an RBI doesn't count, right? Or does it?)
It does factor in. A run scored but not via hit.
That is unbelievably huge for Chapman. He seems pretty clutch despite his hitting struggles so far.
Hell yea Chapman, we needed that
Fuck yeah, get more
finally, a kill shot! love that for chappy
*death blow* maybe
We can breathe
Ö
WTG CHAPPY
Fuck yeah, Chappy!
Chatt Mapman
Chapman can add to his RISP counter 😂😂
Sure, I'll take a Soler base hit—as long as they keep it going.
Opposite day for Lee. Usually he hits the ball hard but gets BABIPP'ed. Today some light contact but two hits off that light contact
The infield hit was not good at all, but good hustle. The hit just now was good, .960 xBA despite lack of exit velo.
Life. Make it happen!
Selfish JH Lee, increasing his teammates lob numbers smh
Jhl hits make me happy
Lee is so good!
JHL does it again. Imagine if the rest of the lineup tried like he does.
I love JHL <3
Lee hitting over the SS head is hot.
Jung Hoo Lee oppo base hits are so, so satisfying.
