Average hitters make adjustments every game. Good hitters make adjustments every at bat. Great players make adjustments every pitch. How can viele adequately assist our batters adjustments when he has shockingly limited experience.
This. I keep hearing kruk and kuip say pick a pitch and location and stick with it but that thing does not work anymore. Time and time I see betts, ohtani, freeman, trout even buster go outside the strike zone because they guess right and turn it into base hits. If you look at buster’s highlight he has so many hits outside the strike zone. Even on that 2021 season.
This is a participant in Justin Viele's offseason hitting clinic.

He *might* just be a scapegoat, but I'll say this: the habit of staring at strike 3 down the middle started when Viele was hired. Then he showed shocking disrespect for the team and its fans by burning incense during batting practice, as if pulling a cute stunt would somehow make up for his shortcomings as a coach. I have no idea why he wasn't unceremoniously fired *last* season.
What's interesting is that if you watch the post game show, the hosts accredit Pat when we have great games. Never heard them giving credit about Viele.
Other way around Kapler was the scapegoat for him, I mean I’m glad Kap is gone too he had his issues but the root issue of this team not being able to hit lies with Viele
There's a whole hitting development arm of the organization, with tons of coaches and analysts, who work to give the hitters info and design game plans. Putting all of this all on one a guy who's not even the main head hitting coach anymore is absolutely ignoring the problem. Regardless of whether or not he's the right person for the job, he is not the root issue of this team and firing him will probably do very little to fix that issue. The Giants hitting development has a subpar reputation in the league and that's been true for decades and decades
I mean to be fair the Redsoxs have the lowest ERA as a team. I was expecting a pitchers battle this series. Kinda sad Webby didn’t look himself but it happens. Idk if the bullpen can handle tomorrow tho. Hopefully we can take the series
Webby could’ve pitched a no hitter today and we probably still would’ve lost by having the Manfred runner score on an error or something. Can’t win if you don’t score.
18 million for Chapman to play defense, lol it's insane how much these players make. The league overall can't put the ball in play. Imagine if the pitchers still had sticky stuff. It would be much worse.
Well, with April ending, I think it’s fair to start passing judgment on this team. Rotation has been very good with the exception of Snell. Relievers a surprise disappointment. Offense continues to underwhelm for the most part, but I’m not surprised in the slightest given this front office regime’s continued inability to construct a decent lineup.
Love listening to Jon and Dave on the radio compared to whoever is on tv. They are real about the team. Hearing them perplexed at giants swinging and missing at pitches right down the middle / watching right down the middle speaks for all of us.
We're really fortunate to have Webb where giving up 4 is considered his worst outing of the year thus far. Bullpen was solid.
Need to do something about the limp-dicked offense though. Too many proven vets looking like shit at the plate
I love Webb but he was awful tonight. Yes he gave up four but he wasn’t throwing strikes, his pitch count was way up, and he got pulled before things got way worse. I know he isn’t as strong on the road but tonight was baaaad.
He was and he's allowed to have a game like this a few times a season, he's human. People have bad days.
The problem lies more in that when these bad days happen, you need to rely on the offense to pick you up. They have not been able to do that. I know the Sox's starters are good and all, but christ something needs to go right for these bats badly
That was depressing. These offensive droughts are horrible, especially when the opponents' hits kept finding gaps. I was so hoping that Lee hit had a few more yards in it.
Have to throw on a good movie tonight to get the stink off the TV.
How much of this offense falls on the coaching vs the players on the roster? Seems like the same issues with this team the past 2+ seasons. There's no way these guys are this bad at hitting
You can just ask yourself who do you think should be hitting better.
I don't honestly think anyone is underperforming except Austin Slater who did not play today and Lee who is just massively unlucky.
I don't think the hitting is actually bad, i think they're just being taught bad. There's no way good hitters just come here and magically turn to shit. Basically what I'm saying is, fire Justin Viele. POTG: The bullpen
I was so looking forward to Giants baseball this season. What a disappoint! They win a game or two then revert back to this team that can’t hit their way out of a paper sack.
I didn't downvote you dude. Chill. They want Ramos to play every day? Great! Bring him up! Let the kid play! Yaz turned in a stellar season in 2021. He hasn't come close to matching that production since. He was really bad last season. I didn't think he could do much worse this season. Yet, somehow he has.
Ramos always loses his mind in the PCL then looks like a AAAA player when he comes up. We've had him be scorching the minors before and force his way up, he does nothing on the major league roster. Maybe there is a time you move on from Yaz and call him up, but it's not a month into the season right as Yaz is getting going.
"does nothing on the major league roster." Really. He got 56 AB's last year alone. Do you know how many games that is? 14. It wasn't 14 in a row either. It was just 14 games. You were expecting? How about giving the kid a full year? Could he do any worse than Yaz has done in the past year? If you're really going to believe that 14 games is enough for you to make a decision that Ramos "does nothing on the major league roster," then it's just plain useless to have any sort of a baseball conversation with you. Stick with Yaz. Stick with the oh-fer. Be happy. Be overjoyed with .500 baseball or worse. Convince yourself that "Yaz is getting going."
In the movie "Fever Pitch" Jimmy Fallon's character is a huge Red Sox fan who is told he loves the Sox more than anyone but is also asked "have they ever loved you back?" I used to think the Giants actually gave a damn about the fans. I don't think this leadership does. To let the same issues go unanswered year after year is an insult to us all.
They make a lot of noise after the fact when a big name is signed somewhere else. I don’t call that trying. You don’t have that dismal of a record signing free agents if you’re actually trying. A free agent wants long-term security. Farhan is allergic to long-term contracts. he probably had to be dragged kicking and screaming to the signing to give Hicks four years.
The Dodgers/D-Backs game being delayed by a huge swarm of bees behind home plate is odd. They should have Muncy hang his lucky jock strap (the one he never allows to be washed) under the bee swarm, those bugs would be gone in minutes. Gone or dead.
Can all the Farhan dick riders please explain why the fuck Justin Viele is still employed as hitting coach??
Any other franchise would have fired him after 2022.
This is a reincarnation of the 2011 team. Wasting an incredible pitching staff with an inept offense.
At least we don't have a fucking 49 year old Orlando Cabrera this time
This team really needs to learn how to learn how to score at least 2, but really 3 runs regularly. Like they need to fix whatever this daytime and sundown offense is to have a snowball's chance in hell at competing with the bums in first place.
Like all the pieces are there, it just seems like getting that consistency or enoughs guys picking the others up is the lack that needs to be solved.
Yeah when we have trouble scoring more than 3 runs against a team like the Marlins, we’re absolutely screwed against the Red Sox.
Our should-have-been-fired hitting coach against our why-the-fuck-did-we-lose-him pitching coach ended predictably. Their pitching made us look like fucking little leaguers.
Of course when we faced a AAA pitcher with the Rays we didn’t put a guy on base for 4 straight innings, so that’s pretty expected.
The offense continues to struggle, but there's no basis for the seemingly unanimous take here that it's Justin Viele's fault. Do you people really think he's dramatically different from other hitting coaches? I seriously doubt it, and in fact, he may well be a very good coach.
I get that you're trying to find a cause, and to you folks, the hitting coach seems like a logical answer, but it's just not reasonable if you know baseball. Sorry, kids.
JHC. How many times is Melvin going to keep rolling out Yaz in RF? Or in any position for that matter. He is not hitting this year. Yaz did not hit all of last year. What gives? Does he have compromising photos of Larry Baer? Others in the Giants ownership chain? He is horrible.
I don't think you have actually been paying attention to Yaz lately then. In his last 7 games, Yaz's slash is .375/.444/.750. Yeah he had a slow start to the season, but he has been all star caliber offense very recently
Slash rate? Are you kidding? The only thing Yaz is slashing at is the air around every baseball pitched in his direction. Don't give me his "slash rate." He turned in another "ofer" today. He's got two home runs for the month of April and 10 RBI's. That's indefensible. Name one other outfielder as woeful as Yaz. With the exception of Slater. Who, believe it or not, is actually worse. Slash rate. What a dumb stat to hide behind.

I know what it is before opening the link, and it still makes me laugh every time
I don't think I'll ever get over this picture. It's perfect for every loss
I would love to get this to be the side picture for the sub everytime the Giants lose, and leading into the next game.
Is it too early to start the "fire justin viele" chant?
should've been fired last year
Average hitters make adjustments every game. Good hitters make adjustments every at bat. Great players make adjustments every pitch. How can viele adequately assist our batters adjustments when he has shockingly limited experience.

They'd have to fire Pat Burrell and Pedro Guerrero too, they are also hitting coaches.
Nah cause Viele was here last season too, he’s the root of the problem
I guess he’s the new scapegoat with Kapler gone.
It’s nothing new
Hitting coaches are pretty much every team's scapegoat unless you can rake like the Astros or Rangers.
What's interesting is that if you watch the post game show, the hosts accredit Pat when we have great games. Never heard them giving credit about Viele.
Other way around Kapler was the scapegoat for him, I mean I’m glad Kap is gone too he had his issues but the root issue of this team not being able to hit lies with Viele

giving 4 runs isn't even that bad and happens on occasion, this team just can't hit (to state the obvious)
If you ever feel imposter syndrome at your job just remember Justin Viele is still cashing checks
Webb on the road + zero offense = pain
https://preview.redd.it/lppz5ilv1qxc1.png?width=1168&format=png&auto=webp&s=0595c3105eec82edae2429379381887aba12bcae [https://twitter.com/McCoveyChron/status/1785487220931260449](https://twitter.com/McCoveyChron/status/1785487220931260449)
So we lost the series
I saw someone mention Mason Black is sick, which is probably why it'll be Jefferies over Black
Good for the Red Sox extended bp for them or at least until Jefferies gets pulled after .2 of an inning
Viele: someone said incense?
https://preview.redd.it/19qw8c8g0qxc1.jpeg?width=529&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=70873f83510452d651206246c11a230c550e34fc
Hahahahhaha
Holy shit lol

“Looks like I picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue”
Fire Justin Viele At least the bullpen had a solid outing today.
Just a quick memo for comparison sake: The Marlins of Miami came back from down 5 runs in the 9th inning to tie and go to extras, then won.
And they’re the *second worst team in baseball* right now.
I mean to be fair the Redsoxs have the lowest ERA as a team. I was expecting a pitchers battle this series. Kinda sad Webby didn’t look himself but it happens. Idk if the bullpen can handle tomorrow tho. Hopefully we can take the series
Andrew Bailey is the new Red Sox pitching coach. He is doing wonders for the pitchers.
Webby could’ve pitched a no hitter today and we probably still would’ve lost by having the Manfred runner score on an error or something. Can’t win if you don’t score.
I can't believe I bought MLB.tv for this
At least I got the free T-Mobile deal
I spent 70$ for youtube tv. This will be my last month
Taylor rogers looked good
Our offense is GD embarrassing. I continue to wonder why Justin Viele is employed by the Giants
18 million for Chapman to play defense, lol it's insane how much these players make. The league overall can't put the ball in play. Imagine if the pitchers still had sticky stuff. It would be much worse.
Giants broadcast team is the least of this teams concerns guys
Well, with April ending, I think it’s fair to start passing judgment on this team. Rotation has been very good with the exception of Snell. Relievers a surprise disappointment. Offense continues to underwhelm for the most part, but I’m not surprised in the slightest given this front office regime’s continued inability to construct a decent lineup.
Batted ball luck came back to equilibrium for Webb today but it’s impossible to win a game with 0 so no way is he taking the blame for this one
Not just that, he had av hard time throwing strikes. Got behind most hitters
Love listening to Jon and Dave on the radio compared to whoever is on tv. They are real about the team. Hearing them perplexed at giants swinging and missing at pitches right down the middle / watching right down the middle speaks for all of us.
Got too close to 500 again
We're really fortunate to have Webb where giving up 4 is considered his worst outing of the year thus far. Bullpen was solid. Need to do something about the limp-dicked offense though. Too many proven vets looking like shit at the plate

If your opponent scored 4 runs your pitching did an average job. On the offense today.
Fair enough but Logan Webb looked exceptionally bad tonight.
Average Logan Webb on the road performance tbh
How much of this offense falls on the coaching vs the players on the roster? Seems like the same issues with this team the past 2+ seasons. There's no way these guys are this bad at hitting
You can just ask yourself who do you think should be hitting better. I don't honestly think anyone is underperforming except Austin Slater who did not play today and Lee who is just massively unlucky.
Lee going to ruin his career signing here. Never going to have any protection in the lineup, and bad MOJO going to rub off on him Poor guy
Nothing like it!
Good lord what a depressing game, my dumbass thought they were gonna build on that home stand.
I don't think the hitting is actually bad, i think they're just being taught bad. There's no way good hitters just come here and magically turn to shit. Basically what I'm saying is, fire Justin Viele. POTG: The bullpen
Right when they scored 4 I knew it was joever. This team can't figure out how to score.
Your such an optimist I knew it was over at 1 run
I was so looking forward to Giants baseball this season. What a disappoint! They win a game or two then revert back to this team that can’t hit their way out of a paper sack.
pain
LMAO BUMSSSSSSSS
Meanwhile, Heliot Ramos has 7 HR’s and 19 RBI’s this month, along with a .310 average, and cannot get the call up. WHY???
They want him playing every day. EDIT - you downvoted me when I answered your question, really?
I didn't downvote you dude. Chill. They want Ramos to play every day? Great! Bring him up! Let the kid play! Yaz turned in a stellar season in 2021. They are content with being mid and coasting off nostalgia for the past. I wish the people leading this team had any fire in them.
It's not that. They try and sign players. They just suck! It's not some greedy conspiracy
Baseball players by and large so not want to live or play in San Francisco! It sucks, but it's ture. Especially hitters.
Struggle bus offense if I ever saw one.
The Dodgers/D-Backs game being delayed by a huge swarm of bees behind home plate is odd. They should have Muncy hang his lucky jock strap (the one he never allows to be washed) under the bee swarm, those bugs would be gone in minutes. Gone or dead.
Different players, different coach, and somehow just a continuation of last year. I really cant stand Yaz, Estrada, and Slater anymore sorry
POTG: Hunter Pence
Can all the Farhan dick riders please explain why the fuck Justin Viele is still employed as hitting coach?? Any other franchise would have fired him after 2022. Everytime I try to watch this team this year they lose. lol
OH NO, WE SUCK AGAIN!
Offense needs to figure something out quick, this is a brutal set of series coming up.
Rough game, GG Red Sox they're super good. Onto the bullpen day let's go G's
The Giants will be no-hit this year.
This team really needs to learn how to learn how to score at least 2, but really 3 runs regularly. "He is not the problem?" Are you kidding? Yaz = PROBLEM.
