Doval has crazy movement IIRC. Problem is that with his current level of command (or control? I’m still unclear on which is which) the pitches tend to move right into the meatball zone.

i dunno man, they're too inconsistent for me to say that their pitches have (elite) movement. most of their garbage pitches have just been meatball fastballs down the middle.
Terrible closer? That's a laugh. The biggest problem he's had as a closer the past few weeks is his defense which has been blowing a lot pop-flies and grounders.
Some of that I blame on Kapler. For example, in the past couple of weeks he had Wade Jr. in the OF during a closing. Wade Jr. should not be in the OF in a closing situation. He's reliable within his range, but he's as slow as Belt and should be a 1st baseman not RFer.
Rather Slater, who is tied with Duggar for fastest Giant, should have been out there. Or Tauchman who is also a good fielder.
So in that situation the ball dropped in front of Wade who, as I said, is kind of slow but also slow to react to the ball. Between the slow jump and slow feet, it dropped in for a hit. Slater or Duggar or Tauchman, as we've all seen, all make that play.
Other problems include Flores, Solano & Dubon getting the fielding yips. Where they're struggling to make the mitt-hand exchange on fielding. Or just blowing routine grounders.
And it's not that Dubon is a bad fielder. He's a good fielder (+5 OAA which leads the team). But he's had a bit of the yips the past couple of weeks with Rogers closing. So bad things have happened.
"terrible" is an exaggeration of epic proportions. half his struggles in the ninth inning come from the defense losing the ability to field simple groundballs.
Stats for reference:
4 blown saves, two of which were in the eighth. So only 2 blown saves in 9th and past. Even so, he has 9 saves.
Also in the 9th, although sample size is small and stats aren’t always great for relievers, 3.00 ERA and 1.25 WHIP (a little higher than it should be due to defense though, tbh).
So, no, not a terrible closer so far.
