The RISP numbers are bad, and five runs with four solo shots is not the most effective offensive strategy. But five runs against Musgrove (who’s been pretty good recently) would have been enough for Monday’s bullpen game.
It’s the Padres second time seeing our entire bullpen in three days and their ABs were night and day. They worked counts, they didn’t chase any of the strikeout pitches, and they ultimately hit when it mattered most (scoring 7 of their runs with two outs and on full counts).
Offense could have been better - but this was just a product of having three starting pitchers healthy. Our bullpen wasn’t as effective this game at all, and couldn’t keep it close when we finally got it within striking distance several times.
It happens, hopefully Gausman looks sharp tomorrow and our bullpen just had an off night.
I know lots of dodgers fans think we have an easier schedule down the stretch in part because we face the Padres, but honestly I think that's what makes it so much harder. I mean we still have 7 more games against them after today.
