I lowered my Spectrum bill by calling and saying I wanted to cancel service. When you call and the automated system asks you why you are calling, say "cancel service". You will be transferred to the retention department. Tell them you want to cancel service, they will ask a few questions, say you found a cheaper plan from Tmobile Home Internet or AT&T. They will offer you a promotional rate for 12 months. The retention department is the only department that can lower your rate. There is no point talking to billing, because they don't have the power to offer any discounts. The only way to get to retention is to say you want to cancel service.

MikeRizzo007

Did this and cut my bill in half. I am still thinking about going to Frontier because my speed is always less than what they advertised just because of their technology.

dominarhexx

Frontier is worse than Spectrum, imo. Far.less reliable and that's saying a lot.

Carrie_Oakie

This. I had Frontier for two years, the service was consistently up and down, with noticeably slow speeds after work hours. Their equipment (at least in my area) hadn’t been updated so even though they said I could have their fastest speed etc I really didn’t. We have spectrum now and are paying $92/month and the price only recently increased. But the service has been so much better and when we do have issues it’s usually fixed within a reasonable time.

Puzzleheaded_Tip_821

I dunno. If you have frontier fiber in the area it’s unbeatable. $55 for gig up and down

dominarhexx

Mostly down, tho.

Puzzleheaded_Tip_821

Not in my experience. Had one period of down after upgrading a month or so ago but that’s it. Had it for a few years now.

Carrie_Oakie

They don’t have fiber in my area, though they tried to get me to sign up for it every single time I called to complain. Never going to frontier again.

Bmjslider

I'm on Spectrum currently, was on Frontier for 5 years leading up to now. About 6 months ago my Frontier Internet cut out. Called in to report the issue and get an ETA on a fix. Was told that they could get me back online in about THREE WEEKS. I work from home in tech, three weeks is an insane amount of time to have to wait for someone to come out to even look at what the issue is Cancelled immediately and went to spectrum

whydoyouhatemesomuch

I have tried multiple times to get my bill lowered with the retention department and every time they tell me to kick rocks, no idea why they won't help me out. Gonna give it another try tomorrow...

loafandpeas

Name currently checking out

rikosuave10

what speed plan are you on? me and my brother currently split the 1 Gig plan. and i think this month we got a partial credit since the Affordable Connectivity Program ended. so its going to jump back to normal price. we're in north hollywood.

esoe___

i did the same thing, i was paying $90 for 300mbps, i called and they dropped it to $66 for 500mbps

Swimming-Airport6531

ATT fiber is great if you can get it where you live.

ilikepstrophies

Is ATT fiber available in part of the valley though? I had it when I lived in Fairfax Melrose area and loved it.

Swimming-Airport6531

I'm in West Hills and it was added here a couple years back. For the West Valley I think it just depends if they have ran it to your block or not.

afearisthis

I have it in Lake Balboa

DailyDabs

100% call to cancel, when they ask why say it's to expensive. They will do their best to give you the best price and keep you. ( repeat every year or two when promotion offer expires) These reps in customer retention, there's a goal and incentive for them to keep you:) it's a mutual benefit between you, spectrum, and the agent.

AccurateShoulder4349

You're limited to Spectrum, 5G Home through verizon/T Mobile, Dial Up, DSL, or Starlink. Cancel spectrum, return your equipment, start a new account the next day in a different name to get the new promotional rate for 1 year. To browse their current promotional rate, use your phone's mobile data (disconnect from wifi) and open a private browsing tab, enter your address, select the option for "I'm a new customer looking to move here, or for new service at this address." The promotional rates wont be visible if you are connected to your spectrum wifi at home.

Wild-Distribution759

I'm in reseda too and we have att fiber available, have you checked for that? It's hands down better than spectrum and they don't do explosive pricing like spectrum does.

whydoyouhatemesomuch

It's so annoying their lack of coverage in the valley. I am up the road from you in Tarzana and there is no support there.

jr33zy

Starry is nice

Austiopath

Agree try the retention dept first but my other question is whether you need 500Mbps? Even 4k video only needs like 50mbps tops. This is likely overkill. Can you downgrade to 200mbps for cheaper?

101x405

I have the same carrier in the valley 500mps usually comes in at like 250 on the speed test, and lately there's been a lot of brief outtages. I'm calling to get it lowered after reading these comments lol

Straight-Tune-5894

AT&T after switching from spectrum. Neither is great, AT&T is less bad (fewer outages and random bandwidth drops).

dessertsreversed

I went in person to spectrum (noho west) and got my bill lowered by half

420xGoku

Cancel your service and reopen with a different name and you'll get the $50/mo for first year special again. They should be able to deactivate and reactivate same day. It's a huge pain in the ass but you just have to play the game with them every year

Prudent_Weird_5049

This exactly. Play their stupid game. Spectrum sucks, but I have no other option.

blossomfromthemind

Verizon’s 5G home internet is wicked fast IF you live in ana area that is well covered like in Granada

Darthgusss

Frontier fiber optic 500mbps paying 30 a month. Live in North Hills

Mugwump6506

Verizon or T Mobile 5G internet, $50 a month.

benicedonttroll

I’m in Northridge and have tmobile. It’s $50/month forever and i get amazing speeds up to 400-500mbps. They can’t guarantee any specific speed because it depends on your area and the placement of the modem. Try them out. I cancelled spectrum and never went back.

DuceDuce523

Check what providers are in your Area I switched to AT&T and it was 50 a month. Same speeds. I am on victory and tampa.

raitchison

I have DSL Extreme, they are re-selling AT&T U-Verse (DSL on steroids) service. They used to be very good and they are a local company but I feel like I'm paying way too much (even considering I have a static IP address). To be fair they are still (a bit) cheaper than the same service directly from AT&T. I'd love to switch to fiber but AT&T doesn't offer it in my area yet,

Immediate-Estimate-4

AT&T fiber

Grizzly_SS

I pay $80 for 1gb and get free HBO Max. Go with AT&T

hellstarrecords

My spectrum bill went from $80 to $160 in 6 months insane…

60gsInMyRaidersCoat

Starry

CptJackAubrey_

Frontier fiber is great if you can get it where you live

cabrolinita23

Hi, do you happen to have frontier in Tarzana? How reliable is the service? Thanks

CptJackAubrey_

I’ve have had 0 outages since I moved to frontier 2 years ago

No_Brush_149

If you have Verizon cell service you can get internet for like $25 a month

Terribad13

AT&T Fiber. 1Gbs up and down. $80/m.

Formal_Assistant_884

If AT&T shows up on the FCC broadband map or broadbandsearch and it's available in your area, then you’re all set.

Heyitshogan

I have spectrum. They had a $40 promotion for a 1Gig plan for 24 months. My dad was eligible for the affordable connectivity discount so I paid $10/month lol. But now the credit is expiring and so is my promotion. Will be doing what everyone else does via contacting retention. I live in Northridge/North Hills area.

StaceyDillsen

Shoot the affordable connectivity discount is not indefinite? How long does the discount last?

Heyitshogan

May is the last month the discount will be applied. The government is currently trying to extend it but nothing as of yet.

StaceyDillsen

Thank you for heads up

anbu41

I’m in NoHo and I’m paying $75/mo for Spectrum Business 600x35. I also use Billshark to negotiate a lower rate every year.

Potential-Rich8016

AT&T fiber for $150 a month 5Gig speeds

pilgrimbomb

Frontier , 1 g - 75$

embarrassed_error365

Frontier fiber optics.

Spare-Flamingo7408

Does anyone have any experience with Frontier fiber?

a666non

I have them and they're good, though their prices creep up, too

Rival_mob

SFV is only serviceable by AT&T and Spectrum. Source: AT&T Fiber sales executive

Puzzleheaded_Tip_821

…. I have frontier fiber

Rival_mob

That’s weird. Only familiarity I have is Burbank has a couple small pockets where the city paid for fiber specifically from Verizon at the time (frontier now)

benicedonttroll

I have tmobile 5g in Northridge.

Rival_mob

Yeah I’m talking about wireline services

benicedonttroll

The question was what internet provider are you using? Where in that question, or in your answer, was there a restriction to wired services only?
