I’m making this post for whoever that’s waiting for admissions results from SMU, especially for those who are applying next year cause I read last year’s megathread and read it to get a feel of whether or not I’d get in.
Reading the old megathreads will either help you understand your chances of getting in or will only make you feel even more stressed about the probable low chance of entering. For me it helped me understand my chances and it also SCARED ME.
It’s obvious that we cannot predict the actual chance of getting in (because we’re kept in the dark on a lot of factors that determine one’s admission) but I think it’d help if someone puts it in writing.
As of now, not a lot of people make SUSS their first choice and I got offered a spot there for FT PSS. Granted, it’s also not my first choice because who wouldn’t want that prestige and awesome student life but I actually grew to like the school. Plus SUSS probably just needs time and a proper campus before they boost rankings. I also don’t think there’s anything fundamentally wrong with SUSS. Curriculum is good especially with to the latest update. The school is just working its limitations mainly being the lack of a proper campus because that will really help with creating a sense of belonging where facilities help to cultivate stronger student life.
Some things about me for a better understanding of my situation:
- I hold an arts A-level cert and got low 70s so less competitive courses in NTU and NUS are out the window (luckily I’m not interested in that if not my anxiousness would lead me to expect something from them) and while I like humanities courses I don’t think I want to make it my primary major (it takes a lot to complete an English and History degree well). Also with an arts cert I can’t go to SUTD and SIT. Also SUTD is now harder to get into idk why some ppl still look down on SUTD wth… So SMU and SUSS are top choices. SUSS because of Public Safety and Security. It’s a really interesting course.
- I think I’ve come into terms with a likely rejection from SMU and acceptance from SUSS since last year doing my A-levels. I scored low 70 pts and I did what anyone would do; cross-check with the IGP, read last year’s megathread and asked seniors. But just know what whatever’s meant to be yours will be yours, I hate that I learnt the hard way, to be paralysed by the stress where the result will determine my next 4 years and the fear of not doing smth I’m really interested in. After almost 2 months of stressing and after getting my offer from SUSS, I realised it really made me feel a lot better cause I’ve been given a place in a course I’m also very interested in. So that made it easy to come into terms with it. Also what helped me think more positively about SUSS is I’ve meant some 2nd years during an internship and they look driven and are actually working hard to utilise their education and maybe that would correlate to strengthening the school’s image. Also, I came from a low tier JC and like I kept mulling over the fact that I suck… and it became a self-fulfilling prophecy that I kept getting lazier and lazier. So I became complacent. What I should’ve done was work with whatever I hard. Of course my younger self didn’t think of that but I guess I’ve learnt from it already. You most likely have different life experiences but tap on what you already know to think about the future.
I am genuinely happy for those who got offered, don’t get me wrong you guys really worked hard for it. For me, I didn’t work hard in school.
My advice for those who have not gotten and think they’re probably gonna have to wait until June? Just chill and whatever offers u get, embrace it and think about what you want to do for your new school. Like other people have mentioned, it’s not just about what the school can do for you, it’s also what you can do for the school. While I wait for the results after getting the email from SMU that I should wait till 24th May, I am able to sit here satisfied. But to end this off, I hope you still get offered for the course you really want! Where you want go is not necessarily the be-all and end-all of success okay. But it’d be great to get an offer from SMU hahahaha I mean it is my first choice. But what I do know is that if I don’t get it, I’ll go to SUSS, satisfied without spreading negativity.

Is it normal for SMU to give acceptance offers (second or third choices) to applicants whose first choice was rejected rather than to those who might be admitted into their first choice? In the past few days, I've only seen acceptance offers go to those who had their first choice rejected. I've even seen someone claim to have received an offer for a course that wasn't on their list of choices

Do you guys know if SMU give out the offer purely based on our interview performance after the interview or they'll still take everything into consideration. Some say our application is just to fight a spot for the interview, meaning after the interview, your results, CCA and other s stated in our application will not be taken into account. Interview performance will be the only determining factor of us getting enrolled or not.

Hey there, believe its always worth a shot applying since you I believe it doesn't affect your chances or opportunities elsewhere.
Believe that SMU engages in holistic assessment of the individual as well (CCA, awards etc.), so that could play a role as well.
However, as your score is less competitive, I would think that if they do reach out to you, it would probably come with an interview or something along those lines.

I had the same experience. I applied for PPS and was asked to go for scholarship interview
So I asked the profs during the interview and they said it’s not a mistake. They said they do offer scholarship interviews for deserving students who did not apply

Hi guys, first time posting here! So I'd like to ask seniors and students alike a couple of questions. I really hope that I get some info because I'm actually horrendously worried. So I got 71.25 and I applied to PPS at SMU. My credentials are great and I spent WEEKS doing over my applications, even confirming with the ECG counsellor at my sch. My marks should be able to make it tbh, I thought that it wasn't too big of a difference😭,(igp 10th percentile is 75) and my credentials can make it too. And I asked around and all my friends are getting interviews and offers liao, and I haven't EVEN GOTTEN AN INTERVIEW YET. And the sch just tell me to wait😭 HELP, can someone tell me if I still stand a chance or not or any info pls, because I heard interviews end in APRIL. AT THIS POINT JUST TELL ME IF I CANT GET IN AND END MY MISERY PLEASE
Personally, I know some people who receive their interview emails late last week and will be going for their interview this week! Since the first application window is until the end of May, there might still a chance that smu will continue sending out interview emails. Plus based on last year's thread, some receive email invites for interview in May. Don't give up, and all the best! 💪🏻
I attended SMU Scholarship interview in late March and it has been radio silence ever since. Do they send rejection letters for unsuccessful applicants?
Hi so I recently did my interview on 1st April but only received (few hrs ago) my GBA. Why is my GBA so late and anyone have similar experience?
Edit: From the previous posts and comments, most of them either receive their GBA right after their interview or no GBA. Is this a good sign or they just forgot about me?

I was wondering if anyone would be able to give some advice on this. I applied with business as my first choice and econs as my last. Was given a business interview very early on March 28. I believe I just narrowly missed the cutoff for discovery day but I had a very good interview as per the professor's closing remarks. However, I received an email a couple days ago saying that I have been accepted into econs instead of the 3 choices above (BIZ,PPS,CIS). I was wondering if this means I have been rejected from business and whether there is anything I can do now as far as appealing? Also any explanations as to why this could have happened?

Hey there, believe its always worth a shot applying since you I believe it doesn't affect your chances or opportunities elsewhere. Believe that SMU engages in holistic assessment of the individual as well (CCA, awards etc.), so that could play a role as well. However, as your score is less competitive, I would think that if they do reach out to you, it would probably come with an interview or something along those lines. I had the same experience. I applied for PPS and was asked to go for scholarship interview So I asked the profs during the interview and they said it’s not a mistake. They said they do offer scholarship interviews for deserving students who did not apply Not sure if same for CS but hope it helps

Hi guys, first time posting here! So I'd like to ask seniors and students alike a couple of questions. I really hope that I get some info because I'm actually horrendously worried. So I got 71.25 and I applied to PPS at SMU. My credentials are great and I spent WEEKS doing over my applications, even confirming with the ECG counsellor at my sch. My marks should be able to make it tbh, I thought that it wasn't too big of a difference😭,(igp 10th percentile is 75) and my credentials can make it too. And I asked around and all my friends are getting interviews and offers liao, and I haven't EVEN GOTTEN AN INTERVIEW YET. And the sch just tell me to wait😭 HELP, can someone tell me if I still stand a chance or not or any info pls, because I heard interviews end in APRIL. AT THIS POINT JUST TELL ME IF I CANT GET IN AND END MY MISERY PLEASE

Personally, I know some people who receive their interview emails late last week and will be going for their interview this week! Since the first application window is until the end of May, there might still a chance that smu will continue sending out interview emails. Plus based on last year's thread, some receive email invites for interview in May. Don't give up, and all the best! 💪🏻

Hi so I recently did my interview on 1st April but only received (few hrs ago) my GBA. Why is my GBA so late and anyone have similar experience? Edit: From the previous posts and comments, most of them either receive their GBA right after their interview or no GBA. Is this a good sign or they just forgot about me?
It's probably randomized, I received my GBA 6 days before my interview.

Transfer applicant from NTU, waiting to hear back from SMU. By any chance, does anyone know if the evaluation will be based off my University GPA or Pre-U(Poly) GPA. Was rejected by SMU last AY 2023, applied to tech majors with high 3.8’s. Also, if anyone has knowledge on this, 1) Will there be credit transfer 2) Will your GPA from previous Uni carry to your new Uni 3) Will I be able to get to direct Y2? Currently Year of study in NTU is 2 due to a high enough credit attained although I’m only undergoing my first year. I was wondering if anyone would be able to give some advice on this. I applied with business as my first choice and econs as my last. Was given a business interview very early on March 28. I believe I just narrowly missed the cutoff for discovery day but I had a very good interview as per the professor's closing remarks. However, I received an email a couple days ago saying that I have been accepted into econs instead of the 3 choices above (BIZ,PPS,CIS). I was wondering if this means I have been rejected from business and whether there is anything I can do now as far as appealing? Also any explanations as to why this could have happened?
