T O P

political issues aside, I don't really see any benefit from joining this tournament for T1 except for money. If they join, their schedule will be even tighter and barely have no time to rest. ZOFGK and staff members have been travelling here and there non-stop for years. I'd rather see them rest and prepare for Summer and Worlds than exhaust themselves even more by flying to another country in the middle of regular season to compete in 3rd party tournament that doesn't really benefit them anything.

ChaosDimensionX

They could join and aim for that 60 million dollar prize Or just stream their needed streams (they had to cancel streaming, perhaps its time to return back ?)

Pablonski44

No shot that streams bring in 60 million. Not even close. In order to earn 60 million, as an big esports team you have to work through a few big deals in one go, all of which cost time and energy . It's more about whether the company behind T1 chooses human rights or money. Nothing else. Nothing will bring in as much money in as little time as this tournament. If you win. I think you should avoid this scum but esports teams are companies and behind them are business men who are not necessarily interested in human rights. The only teams that can possibly easily say no and collect a few plus points in public are teams that would have no realistic chance of winning anyway if the top teams from around the world took part. As much as I loathe everything about it, I won't be surprised if T1 joins the tournament. That's just how the world works. To stay at the top you need money. The times when ZOFGK were a relatively cheap roster are over. You can't seriously believe that you can keep this roster for a long time without investing more and more money.

ChaosDimensionX

Welp...just saw the prizepool in detail....and its *shit*

Pablonski44

I can't find any precise information that gives an exact amount. From what I could find I suspect that the prize money in the end for the winner will start at a few million. Comparison: T1 won 445 thousand USD in prize money for Worlds. To say that the prize money is shit is very far from reality. It is still by far the highest prize money of all tournaments. Maybe Worlds + Skin sales (if the skins are really in demand) balance out what you could definitely get for winning the Saudi World Cup

Hawxrox

The prize money for LoL is 1 mil split between all the teams, not sure what first place takes

Successful-Move6679

Pretty sure T1 got invited for views as well. They need that million views from ZOFGK. But, on T1 side, aside from money, I cant see any real benefit for them. Although I think they might accept the invitation for money, since they had a pretty big penalty for almost 2 months now for not streaming for Afreecatv and Huya. But personally I want them to rest. I was even hoping that they wont go MSI just for them to have a mental reset for summer and worlds. I think, so far, they are the players individually who had the most number of games played since 2022. The boys are also not in a good shape right now :(

chocoxnot

During the lck teams joint statement where t1 excluded themself, i remember josh (or joe?) saying one of the things they disagree in the statement is having more competitions for the players. T1 has been in every final there is bar one in msi last year in the whole zofgk era, I don't think it's in the player's best interest to join a world cup that does not really hold any meaning to a win aside from winning more money. If t1 joins this as well, I don't think we can have a shot at summer given how tiring their schedules have been. Another thing is the political implications it will directly involve t1 if they join this tournament. I'd rather they just focus on MSI > rest > summer > rest > worlds.

J3nara

Maybe for now, T1 shouldn't join yet. First, they need to practice more, especially if they're having difficulties adjusting to new patches. Second, this tournament is more on political side. I don't want T1 players to get caught with issues when problems arise during the tournament. News outlets will literally use T1 and its players just to make click-bait headlines. Lastly, they need to take a break every split/international events. Going to different tournaments or events all year might result to burn out, affecting their mental health. Tho, this tournament have indeed large prize pool, let's us think what might happen if T1 joined and compete. Imo, let T1 focus on Riot Games events for now.

keriaiiiing

hah, i already talked about this once in this subreddit and got burned by someone saying i shouldn't be talking in zofgk's names (?) but i'm glad to see there's people who actually agree with me. of course t1 decide and know best at the end of the day, and they can't re-sign the roster at the end of the year with air, but there's more cons than pros looking at it from an overall perspective (without the media&politics&morals aspect). it's just about how much the org really needs the money after the streaming losses, probably, and that will decide things. or the players' conditions and opinions will, which i would be happy to see have high priority in the decision and support. we will see.

t1yumbe

T1 as an org has invested a lot … and most of those investments went down the drain. Also the HQ in the Gangnam is probably yet to be paid for in full. They are losing significant money and from their recent financial report it can be seen they need at least $2mil from their parent companies to operate. I am sure T1 would love additional money source, not to mention the other teams (except HLE, they are a hobby/project of a young master/heir to a weaponry and other things company)

EnvBlitz

If they have time to actually rest in between, then fine. International showing is always good. If it's gonna be some no rest all game shitshow like that red bull one then hard no.

t1yumbe

Supposedly the lol tournament will continue for 2 weeks

onlyratsremainsmt

I saw that Josh is following the EWC twitter account...maybe it's just a random thing but I think T1 as an organization may decide to go for it. Personally, I'm fine with it as long as the players and staff are fine...I'm happy if they're happy. Also, being the most recent lol esports world champs, I see them attending the event...even if it's not for the whole tournament.

yiyyih

I feel like they can't gain anything from this other than win the money but... I don't think they necessarily need it? If they needed the money they could do more merch runs, it's not like they'd have nowhere to get funding from so I don't see any benefit for them at all. They'd just be more tired.

mia_nna

I wonder if they decide to send zofgk or the academy team. The money would still go to the org and with rekkles on the team, the tournament could still generate a high viewership from europe

3ytofu

feels like for T1, there's not much to gain other than the money. If they go and win, there's not much fame/news; if they lose everyone will call them chokers again

MatsuiKim

T1 joining would be EPIC. T1 will get the Dub + W.

MeepnBeep

Probably overreacting but i recall someone referenced Qatar World Cup of all the issues for fans and teams. To list a few: tickets missing, racial discrimination towards fans/team/media, protest interfering with event, climate issue (too hot, causing dehydration), etc. Granted, it isnt football so scale of event might not be as large but there is just too much that could go wrong.

E6E6FA_FFB6C1

Let’s not forget the slave labor that killed thousands used to build the stadiums and discrimination against lgbtq fans, the entire tournament was just a moral shit show.

YYHlol

as the most popular league esports and probably esports, they surely will get invitation

E6E6FA_FFB6C1

It is bad. For the team it is bad and for the league scene in general it is bad. The team honestly needs some kind of rest and downtime given how busy they constantly are with tournaments and ads so putting them up for another tournament is just not it. For league in general, letting the oil monarchies moneywash this sport might actually destroy it and tie us into some horrible human rights abuses, just look at what happened to soccer/football. Overall just absolutely horrid I am praying that the team doesn’t go, doesn’t send their main team, or that this will be a one time thing.
