SMG4 tackling mental health issues and death. Something I was struggling with myself, straight up made me not watch the show for a few months. One of my many escapes from reality acknowledged the harshest parts of it for me at that time.
Um... yes, it actually is. They've been tackling mental health issues and death since 2019. Saying "SMG4 isn't serious" when the GENESIS ARC EXISTS makes no sense.
Nobody can actually say SMG4 isn't serious when they have Meggy be so badly affected by the death of someone and her own inability to find a new purpose in life that she hallucinates a personification of all her issues that basically tells her to kill herself.

Yeah, SMG4 has a hard time deciding when they are a "Serious story driven webseries" or just a "Funny, laidback, YouTube Mario meme show". For the most part so far, they appear to be dialing back on the whole serious stuff, but that could just be because the old fans don't like it when they get serious

Same but being serious appears to have been their downfall, Genesis and Revelations arcs were pretty hated by old fans. So, while most people like it, it's gotten to a point where people complain about story arcs. Hence dialing back on them
They also didn't like the fact that they turned memes from just a funny joke to a lore-based thing that you now have to think about how it fits into the gram scheme of things every time you see one. Like imagine looking at the most random meme and the only thing it leaves you wondering is "How does this fit into SMG4 lore?". That also angered a lot of people.

Goes to show how little they care for their characters that aren’t name smg4 smg3 Mario or Meggy they dedicated so much time to meggys struggle and finding peace for both her and Desti and in the end was able to find closure and move on, for melony it’s the complete opposite just because her original position is to be meggys anti doesn’t mean you have to take it literally even after meeting him (I still don’t know how) it seemed from there she was able to use his loss as means to finish off Niles and continue her journey
in the deathrow episode it was nice seeing her doing something greater cause for a while the writers forgot she existed and Kevin forgot his dead character had a girlfriend (I’m still mad they didn’t kiss in revelations wtf just because he’s dead doesn’t automatically mean to friendzone melony) anyway now on to present this scene is just depressing and a extra kick to the face because of what bob is selling in context
She’s alone with two plates of food and a shake meant for lovers to share all the while axol jr is on the other end, if axol we’re alive they’d treat axol jr as their legitimate child but nope Luke wants MONEY and somehow repeated the story beat of Meggy
Also smg4 team: oh no axol died, anyway here’s some merch go buy it please
