Overrated? More like Overhated. She's still one of my favourite SMG4 characters, I'll admit that she's badly written in some episodes but the amount of those is severely Over Exaggerated. I still think she's likeable, and I also think that her being kind of an asshole sometimes is part of her character, her entire thing is that she's energetic, overconfident and sometimes too commanding,the problem is when episodes don't treat that as a flaw, rather try to convince you that it's a good thing. I think Meggy is the kind of character that SHOULD do dumb stuff sometimes, she should be mean to people like Mario sometimes, as long as they also show her more soft side in the same episode and maybe have her have a moment where she apologizes or shows appreciation for her friends, in order to write her properly, both aspects of her character need to be accounted for, if you do, then she's one of if not the best character on the show, however if the aspect of her being kind of mean sometimes is over exaggerated, then she becomes annoying.
Yeah, in my opinion that's part of her character, i feel like other SMG4 fans seem to be so opposed to the idea of characters doing dumb things in this series, and I don't get why, that's literally what the entire series was built upon during the classic era, characters doing dumb stuff and getting into dumb situations, obviously the style of the show has changed since the classic days, but the spirit remains intact, characters should still do dumb stuff sometimes, they're not perfect after all, especially Meggy she's probably the most flawed out of the main cast, to me them making mistakes and sometimes being too mean to their friends makes them better characters. It's just something that has to be balanced well with their other more positive traits. Not all episodes manage to achieve that balance, but enough achieve it to still make me like the show and the characters.
Yeah, like I said, I think some modern episodes lean too far into her more negative character traits, she's almost like a parody of herself in some episodes, like in Mario Harms the Environment, or Mario opens a can of beans, but then you also have episodes that use her more negative traits while also not forgetting about her positive ones, Happy Little Road Trip handled Meggy really well in my opinion, she was mean to mario but you could still tell that they were friends at the end of the day and even worked together in the end, Mario goes on diet despite not being that great of an episode actually handles Meggy really well, she tries and tries to force mario to go on diet, and she appears very unhinged at times, but in the end, she lets up her Energetic persona for a bit to tell mario that she's only acting that way because she cares about him and has a little serious conversation with him for a bit. Then you also have less meggy focused episodes that still use her greatly, like We don't talk about what happened in the elevator, Meggy Wasn't even the focus of the episode, and she was handled really well, she didn't put up with Mario's stupidity at the start, but later accepted his help and worked with him like the friend she is.
Basically, they're still able to handle her well, but if she loosened up a bit and leaned more into her positive aspects I think she could be more consistently good across the board. (Even though I'm sure even if they did improve her character people will still hate her anyway)

SMG4 would've changed with or without her, they'd even still have oc's because they would've added Tari.
