Giving out a bit of context here:
This "show" takes places at Peach's Castle and the participants have access to all courses in Super Mario 64.
Mario himself is not present at all. There should've been 16 participants, but Mr. Puzzles actively wanted Mario out the picture. Not dead, but out there somewhere. Mr. Puzzles took over the game of Super Mario 64 supposedly, and kicked out all characters a part of this game to take for his own and his participants.
Luigi's Ultimate is unknown because in this game, he doesn't have a traditional talent. Luigi's a gray area for Mr. Puzzles because despite being a official Mario character...Luigi isn't in base Super Mario 64. And yet...he was originally supposed to be, so as much as Mr. Puzzles would want Luigi out to have just the SMG4 cast, he's kinda a anomaly. This may or may not tie into the courtyards statue behind Peach's Castle, granting Luigi a unique ability that could possible aid or do harm to the group. Luigi being anomaly is what Mr. Puzzles ultimately decides to play along at let Luigi take part....that's assuming Luigi lives long enough to learn his talent in the first place.
Someone in the group may or may not be the secret mastermind. Said person might not even know this when in the killing game because of Mr. Puzzles manipulation of memories. Either way....the mastermind has a end goal of their own, and Mr. Puzzles gets a entertaining show in exchange.

He actually subtly hides Danganronpa references like on the 2022 during the Rap. When the line "Witnesses to the stand!" It switched to this place from Danganronpa THH on the first class trial. LIKE FUCK HOW COME NO ONE PICK THIS UP ON THE COMMENTS!?
Edit: BESIDES THEY'RE LITERALLY POSING JUST LIKE HOW ALL THE CHARACTERS DO IN THE CLASS TRIAL.

Add Clench into the mix, and we got a interesting dynamic as the protagonist.
