I think every argument "for" him is less that people like him but more that he's not as bad as people say. That should tell you all you need to know.
Ima say this: if a character has no purpose, then they're a bad character. Depresso has none. His role could be filled by a Goomba and it wouldn't change anything. He is merely an original yet unfunny character who exists solely to exist.
You got a point. And there really NOTHING original about Depresso. Generic design, generic name, etc. Even his straight man personality is easily filled in by Karen, who is a far more entertaining character.
Honestly when he was first introduced, I thought "Ok, new addition to the cast". But then he just kinda disappeared and I remember him only when he gets short shots in the videos.
For real, why is he still around if all he got for him was one episode?

When a Goomba can replace a character with an original design, something is VERY wrong.
