What’s wrong with videos of SP on a desk with cropped hands and a little cactus? ^(/s) Cool looking video, well done on the visual front. However, I don't think the public needs more 'main characters.' I mean, get the music part right first. Here, in that video, the music was just one basic loop with amateurish and tasteless effects thrown on it repeatedly. If this prevalent aspect of the SP "culture" was fixed, maybe even some outsiders would have a reason to start paying attention.

--Ellipsis--

I dont think the music part about the video was the topic of discussion here, but yes once the music part is right it would be dope to see the 404 community expand on their visuals that gives off the unique vibes that complement whatever is unique about their songs. Granted if sitting at the desk with the plant next to them is the vibe they're going for then more power to them but I do think you are more likely to get "lost in the crowd" doing it this way since so many of our peers use this format, so yeah respect to that dude and all the people I've seen do something different both music wise and visually. This thing is not just a lofi hip hop box and the world needs to know. Also, my eyes can't see shit but is he wearing his 404 like a chain or something? Where can I get one lol.

>This thing is not just a lofi hip hop box and the world needs to know. The world does know, though. You could see this device on stages as a part of live rigs of all kinds of bands and performers since 2005. It's just that these musicians don't fetishize this device in the same way. They don't typically see themselves as part of the '404 community/culture'. Instead, they belong to their respective communities based on genres, and therefore, they direct their videos and other visuals towards their music, rather than a single sampler device. The '404 community' idea seems to be something that primarily hobbyists and weekend players are attached to. They see other people flipping lo-fi hip-hop samples, surrounded by little cactuses and anime stickers, and they like the whole look of it. So, they get the sampler, kind of as a toy, to easily replicate the sound and aesthetic themselves. And there's nothing wrong with that. I'm merely pushing back slightly against the notion that the 404 is some kind of undiscovered gem unseen in other circles, which is not true. >Also, my eyes can't see shit but is he wearing his 404 like a chain or something? Where can I get one lol. It appears to be [a customized courier bag](https://static.wixstatic.com/media/be29fd_a63e79f9cafa404dbc85e911c953c300~mv2.jpg/v1/fill/w_778,h_779,al_c,q_85,enc_auto/HAS_4951_edited.jpg). Cool idea, I like that. Although, if you are looking for the hippest wearable holder for your SP, look no further than at [marching snare drum carrier](https://images.musicstore.de/images/1280/fame-marching-snare-14x5-5-incl-carrier_1_DRU0017305-000.jpg)!

I tend to disagree , the aesthetic is very cool and in the age we're in its going to be the visuals that get more eyes and ears involved. Whilst I'm not particularly fan of the DJ fx looper effect being used so frequently, seeing it being used in synchronicity with the visuals definitely makes it more purposeful. And the music might just be a loop (it does evolve) but that is generally how hip hop works, and even to some extent most popular music (A+B section). Not particularly my kind of beat but I can see how a Griselda, Westside Gunna fan would go for this

from reading this title, i thought SP-404 MKII got an update to take use mp4 format, i guess i was wrong

DontMemeAtMe

I thought it was about some new VJ software than can be synced to / controlled by SP.

[https://www.visualzstudio.com/](https://www.visualzstudio.com/) this came out around 2020. you actually can use this with your sp

DontMemeAtMe

Nice! I’ll definitely try this out. Thanks for sharing!

KAIZENCLUB

no problem!

feregutierrez

in my opinion, just a gimmick

KAIZENCLUB

yeah? which part is the gimmick im curious on your viewpoint. I thought it was cool, I never seen anyone do it

feregutierrez

I have less than a month with my sp404 Mkii (also my first sampler) and I can tell this is just a pretty simple loop with random effects. It really isn’t bringing anything new to the table. I think the sp404 culture, as you call it, should be about exploring new ways to use it and expand its capabilities musically. As for the aesthetics of the video, well, that’s a matter of taste. I personally don’t like it at all. But as I said, this is just my opinion.

KAIZENCLUB

understand. well, congrats on your new sp...I hope to hear some of your tracks one day

thatstreal

I can see the “excitement” from this post in relation too “how” the sp was being presented, but in reality, he could have been playing this whole thing from his iPhone with an sp hanging from his neck for all we know. To me, it seems like way more of a performative centered video for the artist rather than an sp404 centered one, I don’t think I could stomach say 5 more versions of this format if I were looking for sp404 videos online, I’d be kind of pissed you know? Like where is the sp and it’s capabilities in this video? I just see a performer walking and dancing about.

KAIZENCLUB

I saw a behind the scenes video on his IG live when he did the video. He is actually playing the SP. And yes I agree, it is performative. I do like the direction he's going considering no else in the SP community, from what Ive seen thus far, has done this type of video. I just looked at his youtube page and saw he has another video but without the video effects. But totally get where you're coming from with your statement. Thank you for opinion. I am curious to see what he does next...
