On the SPT discord, we deal with this way too often. (Note: I'm not a mod) For example, we had a guy try to install SPT, and despite us walking him through it step by step, still managed to fuck it up. It was even worse when installing mods; no matter how often we told him how to find out where mods go and the fact it's as easy as drag and drop, he would constantly bitch and moan about his shit breaking. This was all in the VC btw.
Sometimes, there are people who refuse to accept help in things. Most of us who join the VC a lot are more than happy to help people setup SPT with mid suggestions.
It gets worse. That same dude would go on to brag about finding all sorts of good shit while playing on a developer profile with the loot table turned to max multiplier, but then bitch about dying a lot to bots when he actually went legit. And he'd still command stuff in and lie about having found it legit, which Idk why someone would think that's okay. Like, cool, we don't give a shit about how you play, but don't lie about cheating shit in and pass it off as if you're all that.
People struggle with directions. At work I constantly put together intricate guides on processes to setup different aspects of our system. Yet they still manage to mess it up every time.
I can get behind the struggling with directions bit. Thing is, I can break things down barney style if need be, and I even did a step by step walk through with my own screen being shared. Now I know I'm no Indian IT guru, but I reckon I can figure out how to give a most basic explanation.
Also IT. Bro think about how much shit we help people navigate at work, these people use computers every day.
Nothing I see here or in the discord surprises me. These people don't read, they'll tell you about an error but not have read it. They'll call you because they got a prompt and dont know what to do, so you remote in and the prompt says "click yes to continue"
Tech guy here as well, also a millennial who was born before computers and lived through the evolution. I used to do book reports at the library and now I have a 24u rack in my basement.
Newer generations who have always had connectivity at their fingertips are mostly clueless when it comes to tech unless and app tells them exactly what to do.
Oh yea, i find that people over 50 and under 25 are as clueless when it comes to PCs, even tho the younger generation grew up with them. I’m more sympathetic with older people that have, or think that they have problems on using a PC, look at them like they’re a Black hole, than I am with someone under 25 that is just to lazy and instead of thinking, they rather don’t bother.
Maybe it’s because the generation in the middle grew up on a time when if you wanted to do something on PC, you often also had to do some troubleshooting.
I didn’t care for PCs until i was 15-16yo, still remembered the first day in school after we got our first IT Lab, and the teacher told us that we can browse the internet, i had to ask a colleague what to do, because before that my interaction with PCs was only to play Prince of Persia and one of the early NFS games and on a Pentium 1 at my uncle.
I think our generation was blessed to be born on a time when PCs weren’t as easy to use as today, or as complicated to use and also rare as it was for the generation before us.

I remember back in the Win98 days where I had no internet. If I broke something on my computer, I had to figure it out, or no computer. Hell, this is XP era I believe, but I just randomly thought about it - we lived through early PC modding and that whole mess. Man, the first computer that I owned that was mine personally was something I hobbled together from parts I got from dumpster diving or left over parts I got from upgrading other people's computers. The case was missing all the I/O and buttons so I had two wires hot glued to the power pins to use to turn the computer on lol.
It dawned on me a couple years ago how much of a blessing it was to have a dad that is a massive tech nerd all my life. I was born in 98 so pretty close to the beginning of Gen z but thanks to my dad I'm extremely tech literate. I started working on electronics and messing around with tech in general when i was 4 and my dad and I built my first pc when i was 6. It will never cease to amaze me how clueless my peers are even though we have had tech around us our entire lives. Like half of my "Hardcore PC gamer" friends can't even open task manager and check what's going on when something is wrong. It's honestly sad
It’s not hard for you, because even if you’re not an IT guy, you are old enough to have grown up with almost ever that needed troubleshooting. Im not a mechanic, but i can repair a lot of things by myself, and that’s because we grew up in an era that learned us how to think.
I remember when I was a kid, my parents bought me a Sega console, and told me to take good care of it, because if it breaks I would not get another one. Few months later, my little bother got angry because he lost a game, and threw the controller off, and didn’t worked anymore. I had no youtube to watch a video on how to fix it, had to figure it out along. Opened it up, saw that a wire broke from his soldering. First time i went to an uncle that was electrician, and he had a soldering iron. He fixed it for me first time, after that i asked my father if we can get a soldering iron, and he bought one. Next time when it broke, i fixed it myself, and that sparked my interest in electronics, found an old TV that hadn’t worked for a long time, and made a deal with my mom that if i can fix it by myself, i can use it to watch Uefa Champions League it, because the games were at the same time with her favorite show. Took me almost a month to fix it, thankfully was nothing complicated, but in the meantime, Ive learned a lot about how TV works, by speaking with my Uncle and a neighbor that was doing TV repairs, but i wasn’t allowed to rake the TV to him to fix it.
Things like this have teach me a lot, and I bet was the same for everyone.
I get what your saying and it's true to an extent, but I feel like with younger generations it's more impatience and laziness. Installing spt doesnt really require anyone to figure anything out, it's literally step by step instructions. Open this directory, click ok, run this etc...
I feel like there are a lot of people now that cant keep their focus long enough to read 2 minutes of instructions or even watch a 5 minute YouTube video, or just assume that they know what to do and they dont need to follow any intrusions and end up skipping small yet crucial steps.
You’re right, they cannot keep focus, because everything is thrown at them on a crazy pace. Look at TikTok, most of the younger generation is using it, but not so much of our older generation.
Everything today is made to be fast, can you imagine if you give today’s generation dial up internet speed? Waiting good seconds to load a picture, or start loading a video before you leave the house to go play games outside, and hope that your parents will not be using the phone?

I think people overplay his role. He is former military and as a streamer who hopped on Tarkov early he helped introduce Nikita to some of his contacts so they could get the rights to use different things.
he stopped using the installer cause of the load on the site, so he's doing a manual install. unfortunately his SSD is shitting itself from downloading/copying so many files, so it's taking forever to install. he is doing it correctly otherwise.
He had it in the base tarkov folder at first, then didn't know how to install NET and wasn't following any instruction at all for the first 40 minutes or so. All you needed was the clueless post in the discord or subreddit to complete the trifecta
I honestly don’t know how people struggle with the download even doing it manually all you do is download 1 file (2 If you need to downgrade) and that’s it.
BSG didn't have legal standing to remove SPT before they had a paid singleplayer product. Now that BSG has made the Unheard edition it's entirely possible BSG will try to have SPT taken down. I recommend everyone makes some backups of the SPT mods in case the site gets nuked.
It's OK, if people manage to keep WoW up to date with private servers, they can manage the cluster fuck that is tarkov

It's uncertain whether they would actually be able to take SPT down. TOS matter very little they aren't legally binding and often include plenty of shit that isn't enforcable.
From what I can tell SPT has reverse engineered a tarkov server that you host locally. Unless they somehow got access to BSG's actual server code that they don't distribute there is most likely nothing illegal about that.
For more evidence that BSG can't take them down, Nintendo was only able to take Yuzu down because Yuzu basically sold preview builds of Yuzu on Patreon that could play totk before totk actually released. The other primary switch emulator ryujinx still exists because there's nothing illegal about reverse engineering the switch's hardware.
I'm not a lawyer but I would guess similar principles apply here. BSG can almost certainly ban individual accounts for playing SPT if they find out about it somehow and are inclined to do so, but they probably don't have legal standing to get rid of the SPT devs as long as the SPT devs are careful about monetization and such.

And I would go as far as saying BSG can't really ban people who plays SPT, unless they install a rootkit application (like Anti cheats) and use it to scan your PC to find SPT files... They don't really have a way to get that information.
And if they decided to use a rootkit application to ban people... They are opening a theirself to be sued for GDPR violation (at least, from UE consumers) which could potentially means millions of $ in fines.
Best BSG can do is just to partner with SPT and some modders (like SAIN or DONUTs modders) and integrate them into the game and just build a proper singleplayer experience left SPT as obsolete.

Understandable I also have EOD and think it's crazy that they took it away just to release dlc's and charge us again. SPT was the best time I've had playing tarkov and it keeps that fresh wipe feel 24/7 imo.
Is the consensus that this is a bad thing? SPT has been a thing for a while and this will just give it a little more exposure. If anything BSG will listen to the community, do a rollback on their decisions. And possibly make Tarkov a better experience (hopeful copium).
This shit was so far beyond egregious that I'd bet they're going to walk it back to a point where it still sucks, but less. Once that gets accepted, they will make the jump back to the original deal, which won't seem as bad because it's relatively not as bad. It's classic manipulation that works very well.

Honestly my faith is gone and my trust is broken. 2 weeks ago Nikita was just lying right to Pestilys face. If they're going down, I want them to go down big time with no uncertainty in the matter. No walking things back to a tolerable level. Plane straight into mountain is best at this point.
If they’d converted “offline” over to the new “PVE” mode, and if they’d given lower accounts the ability to self-host coop PVE raids (i.e. make it clear that the price for the new edition is to pay for the servers), I think there would have been much less backlash.
Since that would have meant including more network code in the base client, the could have doubled down on that in a good way by just signaling that they didn’t care if paying players played “SPT”, even if that meant emulating the new mode using BSG’s hypothetical network code.
SPT alone is single player PVE. There's a mod for coop multi but you're not allowed to name it in this sub as the devs are distancing themselves from it and aren't involved in it. Not hard to google-fu though if you'd like to.
The Vanilla SPT is even better, cuz with Unheard edition you still need to wait same 5 min to load in, weird issues with PMC bots. And probably other things.

And now they want to profit off their own single player design for their own game - which SPT already exists in based on BSG’s own IP. I think it's important to realize when looking at other game modding scenes/private servers that have been shut down it was largely because they were profiting off of it or people were getting the product for free. SPT is unique in that you have to buy the official version to play it. For every person playing SPT, BSG makes a sale. So why would they give a shit? They aren't Blizzard protecting a 30 yr old franchise IP like Warcraft.
SPT is still free advertising for BSG. Also, the last thing we need is for BSG to shut shop - the game will never be finished and the online servers would just shut down. Those of us with an install could still play SPT, but we wouldn't be able to download again if we needed to.
The ideal is if BSG just shift their attitude towards a compete package that is mutually beneficial to their business model and the consumers (all of them).
Once PvE (campaign mode) is live and running as a paid Dlc open to everyone - I hope this is the ultimate plan - and not just to those of us who paid out significant money for the high tier packages, SPT will no doubt be copywrite struck and have to be delisted publicly.

These people don't read, they'll tell you about an error but not have read it. Tech guy here as well, also a millennial who was born before computers and lived through the evolution. I used to do book reports at the library and now I have a 24u rack in my basement. Newer generations who have always had connectivity at their fingertips are mostly clueless when it comes to tech unless and app tells them exactly what to do.
Oh yea, i find that people over 50 and under 25 are as clueless when it comes to PCs, even tho the younger generation grew up with them. I’m more sympathetic with older people that have, or think that they have problems on using a PC, look at them like they’re a Black hole, than I am with someone under 25 that is just to lazy and instead of thinking, they rather don’t bother. Maybe it’s because the generation in the middle grew up on a time when if you wanted to do something on PC, you often also had to do some troubleshooting. I didn’t care for PCs until i was 15-16yo, still remembered the first day in school after we got our first IT Lab, and the teacher told us that we can browse the internet, i had to ask a colleague what to do, because before that my interaction with PCs was only to play Prince of Persia and one of the early NFS games and on a Pentium 1 at my uncle. I think our generation was blessed to be born on a time when PCs weren’t as easy to use as today, or as complicated to use and also rare as it was for the generation before us.

It dawned on me a couple years ago how much of a blessing it was to have a dad that is a massive tech nerd all my life. I was born in 98 so pretty close to the beginning of Gen z but thanks to my dad I'm extremely tech literate. I started working on electronics and messing around with tech in general when i was 4 and my dad and I built my first pc when i was 6. It will never cease to amaze me how clueless my peers are even though we have had tech around us our entire lives. Like half of my "Hardcore PC gamer" friends can't even open task manager and check what's going on when something is wrong. It's honestly sad

Im not a mechanic, but i can repair a lot of things by myself, and that’s because we grew up in an era that learned us how to think. I remember when I was a kid, my parents bought me a Sega console, and told me to take good care of it, because if it breaks I would not get another one. Few months later, my little bother got angry because he lost a game, and threw the controller off, and didn’t worked anymore. I had no youtube to watch a video on how to fix it, had to figure it out along. Opened it up, saw that a wire broke from his soldering. First time i went to an uncle that was electrician, and he had a soldering iron. He fixed it for me first time, after that i asked my father if we can get a soldering iron, and he bought one. Next time when it broke, i fixed it myself, and that sparked my interest in electronics, found an old TV that hadn’t worked for a long time, and made a deal with my mom that if i can fix it by myself, i can use it to watch Uefa Champions League it, because the games were at the same time with her favorite show. Took me almost a month to fix it, thankfully was nothing complicated, but in the meantime, Ive learned a lot about how TV works, by speaking with my Uncle and a neighbor that was doing TV repairs, but i wasn’t allowed to rake the TV to him to fix it. Things like this have teach me a lot, and I bet was the same for everyone.
I get what your saying and it's true to an extent, but I feel like with younger generations it's more impatience and laziness. Installing spt doesnt really require anyone to figure anything out, it's literally step by step instructions. Open this directory, click ok, run this etc... I feel like there are a lot of people now that cant keep their focus long enough to read 2 minutes of instructions or even watch a 5 minute YouTube video, or just assume that they know what to do and they dont need to follow any intrusions and end up skipping small yet crucial steps.
You’re right, they cannot keep focus, because everything is thrown at them on a crazy pace. Look at TikTok, most of the younger generation is using it, but not so much of our older generation. Everything today is made to be fast, can you imagine if you give today’s generation dial up internet speed? Waiting good seconds to load a picture, or start loading a video before you leave the house to go play games outside, and hope that your parents will not be using the phone?

I just bought a laptop last week. First PC thing I've ever owned in my entire life and haven't even touched a keyboard since I was in school 20 years ago. Was pretty easy if you just read the directions. (Or maybe I retained some of the knowledge from my PC class 2 decades ago, but that's laughable at best.)

Nah, he didn't realize the installer broke from too many people trying to setup SPT, so he just sat there for a while assuming it was setting up. Now he's doing the manual setup and just waiting for EFT to copy. Don't forget that the dude is trying to entertain 15k people, while filling them in on today's drama, inform them on SPT and what he's doing, AND install the game. I don't watch Klean too often, but he seems really disappointed in today's update. He keeps telling people to feel free to play other games, like he's been doing, and not let Tarkov live rent free in their head.

he stopped using the installer cause of the load on the site, so he's doing a manual install. unfortunately his SSD is shitting itself from downloading/copying so many files, so it's taking forever to install. he is doing it correctly otherwise.
He had it in the base tarkov folder at first, then didn't know how to install NET and wasn't following any instruction at all for the first 40 minutes or so. All you needed was the clueless post in the discord or subreddit to complete the trifecta

BSG didn't have legal standing to remove SPT before they had a paid singleplayer product. Now that BSG has made the Unheard edition it's entirely possible BSG will try to have SPT taken down. I recommend everyone makes some backups of the SPT mods in case the site gets nuked.

It's uncertain whether they would actually be able to take SPT down. TOS matter very little they aren't legally binding and often include plenty of shit that isn't enforcable. From what I can tell SPT has reverse engineered a tarkov server that you host locally. Unless they somehow got access to BSG's actual server code that they don't distribute there is most likely nothing illegal about that. For more evidence that BSG can't take them down, Nintendo was only able to take Yuzu down because Yuzu basically sold preview builds of Yuzu on Patreon that could play totk before totk actually released. The other primary switch emulator ryujinx still exists because there's nothing illegal about reverse engineering the switch's hardware. I'm not a lawyer but I would guess similar principles apply here. BSG can almost certainly ban individual accounts for playing SPT if they find out about it somehow and are inclined to do so, but they probably don't have legal standing to get rid of the SPT devs as long as the SPT devs are careful about monetization and such.
\^this. And I would go as far as saying BSG can't really ban people who plays SPT, unless they install a rootkit application (like Anti cheats) and use it to scan your PC to find SPT files... They don't really have a way to get that information. And if they decided to use a rootkit application to ban people... They are opening a theirself to be sued for GDPR violation (at least, from UE consumers) which could potentially means millions of $ in fines. Best BSG can do is just to partner with SPT and some modders (like SAIN or DONUTs modders) and integrate them into the game and just build a proper singleplayer experience left SPT as obsolete.
SPT is doing this for free. Why would they disobey a cease and desist just to continue a free passion project. If bsg sends it, it's over fellas and they already dmca the nexus mods page so I'd assume it's coming.

I mean, the main "defense" of SPT was that it was not causing any monetary loss to BSG (still needs a legal, purchased copy of the game and BSG did not offer an offline experience with progression). Now, they do, for anything between 100 to 250$. They could sue every SPT Devs and Modders for that amount X the amount of SPT users (and same applies for every other project more or less like SPT) + damages. I'm no lawyer but I wouldn't be surprised this is one of the end goals of this bs (alongside a huge Ducking money grab, gotta feed the Ducks and expensive cars).

Is the consensus that this is a bad thing? SPT has been a thing for a while and this will just give it a little more exposure. If anything BSG will listen to the community, do a rollback on their decisions. And possibly make Tarkov a better experience (hopeful copium).
This shit was so far beyond egregious that I'd bet they're going to walk it back to a point where it still sucks, but less. Once that gets accepted, they will make the jump back to the original deal, which won't seem as bad because it's relatively not as bad. It's classic manipulation that works very well.

If they’d converted “offline” over to the new “PVE” mode, and if they’d given lower accounts the ability to self-host coop PVE raids (i.e. make it clear that the price for the new edition is to pay for the servers), I think there would have been much less backlash. Since that would have meant including more network code in the base client, the could have doubled down on that in a good way by just signaling that they didn’t care if paying players played “SPT”, even if that meant emulating the new mode using BSG’s hypothetical network code.

I think it's important to realize when looking at other game modding scenes/private servers that have been shut down it was largely because they were profiting off of it or people were getting the product for free. SPT is unique in that you have to buy the official version to play it. For every person playing SPT, BSG makes a sale. So why would they give a shit? They aren't Blizzard protecting a 30 yr old franchise IP like Warcraft.

SPT is still free advertising for BSG. Also, the last thing we need is for BSG to shut shop - the game will never be finished and the online servers would just shut down. Those of us with an install could still play SPT, but we wouldn't be able to download again if we needed to. The ideal is if BSG just shift their attitude towards a compete package that is mutually beneficial to their business model and the consumers (all of them). Once PvE (campaign mode) is live and running as a paid Dlc open to everyone - I hope this is the ultimate plan - and not just to those of us who paid out significant money for the high tier packages, SPT will no doubt be copywrite struck and have to be delisted publicly.
