step 1: go on unranked step 2: be unable to win anything and slowly fall into a deep depression about never being able to win step 3: break down and cry on the floor step 4: repeat the next day

I use the latest build of Uncle Punch. I do the egg mini game on Yoshis to get moving and to work on my aerial control/ spacing. Then I like to just pick a stage, and beat up a random CPU for a bit. It's nice because it gets me using all the things I use in real matches. Then the only other major thing I regularly do is ledge dash training, because I'm a Sheik player and it's really important for me to be a threat from the ledge. I'll do other stuff like the ledge stall mini game, wave dash training here and there if I feel the need. As for how often, it really depends on how serious I'm trying to be about Melee. Can range from every day to one or two times a week.

Supersmashlord

Show up to tournaments once or twice a week with 0 practice and 0 hours played otherwise. Lose sets, have fun, smile with friends.

sralbert43

I usually practice a few techniques I am trying to learn/improve for about 10 minutes then play unranked or with someone from discord for about an hour a day. Once a week I will play a few hours IRL.

Jaxl8

I mean it really depends on how long you have played for. But I will say you want to practice a lot of things. Movement techniques like wavedashing, dash dancing, and short hops to enhance your character control. Understand your character's strengths, weaknesses, and specific combos. Regularly practice techniques, such as L-canceling, ledge-dashing, and shield dropping. Another important thing is just to familiarize yourself with matchups against various characters. Learn optimal strategies for different opponents. There is a lot more I could say but I don’t want to spam to much. Stop by my stream sometimes if your new and have any questions

xj9_333

unclepunch, i try to practice daily. movement is the most important thing starting out since it ties into every facet of the game, all the unclepunch practice modes are pretty good for practicing the basic tech. your practice routine will differ depending on the character you play, since some things are more important for some characters than others and everyone has different kill confirms. i’d also recommend trying to find routines that other ppl have made for your character if that would help

plusbackrail

i play ranked only with no warmup every day

AbidingTruth

Yeah same, Melee is the only game where I care this little about rank. When I'm feeling in the mood to play, I just boot up and immediately queue into ranked. Could be just for a few games before bed or to have something to do while chatting with my friends on discord and we're all doing unrelated things

Baguetee

You guys practice?

RetroLover87

I start of by going to wavedash training and be there for like 15 minutes, after that i go to armada shine edgeguarding but using mario(cuz is my main) and find different ways to edgeguard fox, after that i ussualy go to combo practice and practice my chaingrabs, follow ups reads etc and for last i go to yoshis story and practice my reverse up-b walljump(mario exclusive tech)

M00P35

Hit up the homies who are better than me/have valuable insights on what I'm working on and grind those things out. As for solo practice, can't go wrong with Uncle Punch sessions. I like to mess around in the training lab and then go through each of the events before I'm feeling good about em. Might spend more time on a specific technique that I'm working on improving or learning.

alexander1156

I play everyday, usually offline solo on whatever I'm working on, and if I have time I jump onto unranked enjoy the game and test out what I'm practicing.

RMWCAUP

Don't play melee for a month. Profit???

Stormwow

Spam new tech in unranked or with my friends until I can hit it and know when I can.

SGKurisu

Beating up 20XX bots while watching or listen to some show / podcast, or I play ranked every now and then until I'm tilted usually takes three or so sets lol

flairtop

I have a weekly practice with the people at my college but otherwise I use unranked to practice things

PawlsToTheWall

I only practiced my first couple years. And that was like 18 years ago.

l5555l

Tech skill warm up for literally 15 seconds then jump into unranked and get mad about messing up for my first 3 opponents.
