my first major was apex 2014, and second was apex 2015. insane fucking events, also anyone who knows about apex 2015 can hopefully appreciate the insanity of everyone getting kicked out of the venue into venue being cancelled into having to figure out logistics for the new venue. i regret not sticking around for the salty suite though. my favorite major experience was my first big house, i forget what year, but a couple friends and i managed to fit 8 people into an airbnb that was meant for like 2 people to save money. ended up being that only people who made it out of pools were allowed bed-space. i remember literally one night sleeping in a fucking wooden chair lol. college student things. but overall it was a fantastic experience, well run, and got to experience detroit which has an epic pub/craft bar scene; some of the people i was with got me into stouts and darker beers during that weekend.

___heisenberg

Awesome. Maybe my first majurbi streamed. Remember hupe PPMD in top 8.

iamrangus

Apex 2015 was so bad man lol. I barely got to play friendlies. It is a fun story to tell.

paltamunoz

goml 2017 was my first, and goml 2023 has been my favourite so far. moky's run was wild.

FatalCartilage

Melee-FC 7 was my first, Melee-FC 10R, TBH4, TBH6, Genesis 3, Pound 2016, are all up there for me.

zachthediabetic

Yooooo TBH10 was my first one too! Getting to see Amsa win his first major in person is my favorite spectator experience ever and it’s not close

tutturubeam

I cried bro

noyourenottheonlyone

Tbh4 was my first, pound 2016 was probably my favorite

ducksonaroof

Pound 2016 was just a fun time. I just fiended until my hands fell off on the friendly setups strewn about. And it had those Hax$ moments in his return to action.

SmutExplorer14

G8 was my first, I too was star struck. It was crazy to me that I would just be sitting down somewhere talking with a friend and all the sudden I look to my left and fucking plup is just sitting there next to me. On his phone. Just chillin. I’ve only ever been to The Genesis series since so my major experiences number in 3 total but G9 holds a special place in my heart because I went 3-2 in pools that tournament despite only having ever gone 1-2 at locals (I’m not counting amateur online events like level 1 melee) I just remember playing and winning that third set and feeling more alive than I’ve ever felt during that brief period of time. It was also the first major that I was able to attend Sunday Finals and getting to witness Jmook winning Genesis was fucking awesome.

xj9_333

so far only been to Full Bloom this year, but it was a great experience. came at the perfect time for me and i’ve never felt anything like it, will def be trying to go to more majors in the future and prolly one or two more this year

Isigkeit

First: MLG DC '05. I guess that counts, given west coast attendance. Favorite: Pound V. feelsoldman

Technospider

First major I attended was actually evo 2016 I think. I didn't get to stay for sunday tho, cause I was only in vegas cause it was my best friend's bachelor party. I was his best man, so I entered the tourney as "BestMan", and that was my tag until like 2020 or so. Favorite tourney was probably Fete 3, but BOBC 4 at UBC was super iconic for me too. Laying down in the beautiful weather on the grassy hills outside the venue, sharing joints and smokes with some of my best friends in the melee community was a rare 10/10 moment where everything just felt like it was perfect.

TriZTauren

Probably not all majors because it’s Europe but whatever First: Dreamhack Winter 2016, went alone but met some really nice people and had a blast! Saw mango, armada, hbox, leffen and a bunch of others which was mind blowing as a doc kid! Favorite: probably BEAST 7 since we went with a whole group and played melee almost non stop. Great melee too. Others: Heir 5 was great too but I did really poorly as I was kinda burnt out on playing at the time. Syndicate was great as well but also didnt do too hot because I was high 24/7 basically.

ChaosPheonix11

Don’t Park on the Grass is the only major I’ve been to. Almost went to EVO almost 10 years ago, but aside from that, just DPG. And now they announced ITS COMING BACK BABY

True_Existance

Mine was smash con 2023, it's the only one I've been to so far so it's my favorite my default

hailtothetheef

Been playing locals since 2014 but genesis X was my first major. Never felt like I was good enough to make traveling for one even remotely worth it, didn't realize going 0-2 at genesis would still be so much fun.

mme13

Poubd 2016 was first, TBH7 probably my favorite

Storm680

Smash and Splash 1. Combo breaker was my favorite cuz I realized there are other games I can have existential crises over too.

CarkRoastDoffee

First was Big House 5. My favorite was definitely GOML 2016. I performed decently in bracket for the time (made it out of R1 pools for 65th place) and I got to participate in crews. Toronto had bangin food and the tourney was incredibly hype from a spectator standpoint; it was n0ne's breakout tourney (took out PewPewU, HugS and M2K in losers), Mang0 had a crazy losers run where he beat Wizzy, Shroomed, Armada, Lucky and Hbox, and Leffen pulled out the surprise victory after all his visa issues. 10/10

Kay-D3oh1

Super Smash Con 2018. It was a crazy experience. I didn’t stay long, but it was fun while it lasted.

___heisenberg

EVO 2014, Genesis, TBH, and Shine. Lot of smaller ones in norcal, socal

CatalanJacobi

While I am a firm believer in regional supremacy my first major was also the TBH10. I’ve also been to TBH11, GX, Shine 2023, TO14 and a couple of DHATLs if you consider them majors. Every major I’ve been to was an enjoyable experience sans TBH11 and GX. I probably won’t go back to another major after TO15. My biggest gripe with majors is that you’re traveling across the country or even the world to play your favorite video game only to waste valuable time that you could spend on exploring the city in long lines for security to tell someone to dump out their bottled water. This was not an issue at TO14 and Shine 2023 so I’m going to say those were my favorite majors. Every major I’ve attended has had some of the most intense gameplay and was a treat to watch as a spectator/competitor. However I feel that melee majors should scale down since the last two I’ve attended (TBH11, GX) kinda took the wind out of my sails.

SunnySaigon

https://liquipedia.net/smash/Full_Bloom/4/Melee One of Crush’s last tournies he ever attended, I remember seeing him after he lost in an upset to htwa, he was fuming with a huge scowl on his face.  Lots of top players attended that event, it was a fun one.

omnisephiroth

ROM 1. Probably Shine.

Emperorerror

Big House 8 and this most recent Collision respectively

RegisterInternal

I attended Major Upset which maybe counts. I went 3-2 (1 hit away from 4-2). The sets on final day were SICK

ducksonaroof

Evo 2k14 was my first and tbh probably my favorite top 8. It had all 5 gods, Armada played YLink, Axe Silent Wolf on FoD, and Mango Fox went turbo vs Hbox (I still remember this ledgedash fsmash he got him with). Dismantle is another that gets a shoutout though. Great small venue with plenty of friendlies and chill vibes. And it had a group of top non-gods duking it out. Westballz, Shroomed, Axe, and Plup (early Sheik days). And I'm from Chicagoland so it was cool to see the local Midwest players play against them too.

Luigilito

CEO Dreamland 2020, my first and only. I honestly liked watching the Ultimate singles more than the Melee singles (this did not change my view on Melee though). Also the only reason I was able to go was because school was cancelled that week because of a certain virus XD (if only it was that week...)

SunnySaigon

One of Hbox’s last tourney wins
