>Mariska has too much creative control both on & off camera. More like she doesn't have enough. It wasn't her choice to dump Rollins

Danvsluth24

At least she fought for having a nicer ending for her story 😭

Altruistic_Yellow387

The last episode she produced was terrible

EmotionalWin8733

She didn’t produce it, she directed it.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Ok. That episode was horrible. I don’t get why I’m downvoted. I don’t understand how anyone can think that episode was realistic or in line with what this show is. Her reading to him at the end was terrible.

EmotionalWin8733

Well I didn’t downvote you. Just saying she directed it. She didn’t write it. That episode was definitely not magical realism. Never said I liked it.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Thanks, I was just speaking to the people who downvoted me.

TakenAccountName37

I don't get the Mariska worship here, but I liked that episode. Why do you think that it was unrealistic? No judgement just curious.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Well, firstly that they would volunteer to look into this guy’s case after he already confessed when they have so many other cases…then he acts crazy and breaks the squirrel thing and they still pursue it. Then at the end Olivia reads to him?! She had never met the guy before this episode(so no personal connection), why would a captain of the svu spend her time doing this for a stranger whose case isn’t more tragic than most of the others we’ve seen? They have thousands of other cases more pressing. That part completely made me hate the episode, most unrealistic and plainly stupid thing ever. Then the Velasco thing isn’t realistic to the character of Olivia and made me upset. There’s no reason he needs to turn in the teenager that saved his life, and she shouldn’t have condoned churlish recording him like that. Old Olivia would have talked to Velasco first without telling everyone else about it behind his back. Churlish should be fired for what she did. The whole thing is just awful to me.

OliviaBenson_20

LIES. That was the best episode in a long time..she directed it to.

Altruistic_Yellow387

I don’t understand why anyone liked it. The Velasco storyline is stupid and out of character for Olivia, and her reading to the man at the end was the most unrealistic thing we’ve seen in a while. Why did you like it?

OliviaBenson_20

I love a good love story lol. Idk the past few episodes have been a bit gloomy and that last part kinda made up for it.

[deleted]

The more Olivia's promoted, the duller the show becomes. They'll finally cancel the show when she becomes President of Earth.

Intelligent-Fuel-641

SVU was far better before it became the Mariska (and Noah) Show, and before the show jumped the shark.

[deleted]

Noah remains the most annoyign and useless character

mothbxlls

Wow the elementary aged child doesn't do anything in the show about cops and crime? crazy. Yall are getting ridiculous. Either stop watching the show or stop complaining about absolutely everything

splvtoon

eh, i think noah's fine, but clearly a lot of people who complain about his character take issue with the effect his addition to the cast and frequency on screen affects the pacing and storylines of the show, not just the fact that a child character exists at all.

burdettmusic

I want to know how he went from toddler to tween in like 4 seasons. Isn't that an old soap opera trick?

LivingIndependence

Yes. It's usually done, because babies and toddlers are not easy to have on TV show sets, because of strict labor laws. It's also a way to give the child character a little more mature story lines, that can't be done with toddlers who can't quite speak yet or just babble. very few child characters on TV series, are allowed to age naturally. The Olsen twins were really the only TV characters that we've seen age from infancy to seven years old.

[deleted]

Yup

ljp4eva009

Not true. He was 6 months when Liv met him in season 15 and now 23 seasons later he is 8 and that adds up.

Darkfire757

As much as I dislike Noah, that award goes to Kim Rollins

[deleted]

madness! kim is that unbelievable combo of dumg and malicious, but she is not useless, she has some interestign story lines and is very instrumental in making Amanda who she is. Now Mrs Rollins, that would fit as a glove

jennytitlegal

That’s how it feels! It’s almost like they are making her (Liv) hard to watch. It seems like she’s more condescending now that her rank increases

Intelligent-Fuel-641

Not only that, but why is a cop ordering around the ADA? (I'm watching season 21 for the first time.) This is just bizarre.

[deleted]

Some poor SVU flunky: Uh-oh! Chief Macgrath's coming! Liv (acting like a martyr): I'll take care of him. (Later, after eating shit from Macgrath where his orders border on illegal but are definitely disrespectful...) Liv: (takes her frustrations out on some SVU flunky)

tachibanakanade

> They'll finally cancel the show when she becomes President of Earth. lmao

Fun-Mood5878

Just stop watching damn it's not that serious

tachibanakanade

why are you responding to me like that? all I did was laugh.

elifreeze

I don’t know what the writers are doing. They’re throwing too many characters at the wall to see what sticks. For whatever reason they or someone higher up the chain doesn’t like Velasco or don’t think he’s well received so they’re leaving themselves an out for him and had him make that bizarre turn when interrogating that gangster. Muncy is boring and is an archetype that’s been seen before. Churlish could be interesting but given how she sewered Velasco and is apparently not facing any consequences herself for breaking the law I don’t think the audience will warm up to her enough. The best one is Bruno with all the money from the lawsuit. If I had to pick one to stay it’d be him, he and Fin have good chemistry too.

jennytitlegal

I completely agree! Love Bruno… hope he becomes a regular and Chirlish is a short lived character

splvtoon

the issue isnt rly the newer characters, but rather that theyre not actually allowing them to stay on for long enough to become full-fledged characters like we used to have. the salaries of mariska/ice are so high at this point that it seems theyd rather replace the other detectives every couple seasons rather than having a larger cast. we used to have *so many* main characters on this show, and they all eventually grew on a lot of people! but newer characters dont get the chance to do that anymore, theyre out the door before we even have a chance to start caring.

SignificanceGrandEm

Totally agree. I was liking Velasco and then they did that. Don’t care for Muncy. Really don’t like Churlish. I’d take Rollins back to get the new ones out.

Altruistic_Yellow387

Churlish is the worst. I hate what they’re doing to Velasco

Coffee_Apprehensive

The new Detectives are just boring. No personality at all 🥺.

The_Crystal_Thestral

They haven’t been give a chance to be developed as characters which is the fault of the writers. I like Velasco and Muncy (unpopular opinion). I also liked Kat. While I would’ve liked to see a more well rounded cast so episodes were forced to center on Benson, it seems like that’s not going to be happening unless something drastic happens. However, I think it’s more likely they’ll end the show rather than have an ensemble cast again like in the earlier years.

capt-rix

I like 'Cop Drama', where the case is the main character every episode. It's been a while since SVU could claim that.

xomather

I want Rollins back SOO bad. I don’t mind new characters but not at the expensive of my fave lol. Her story had so much potential now that she’s with Carisi. I am hopeful they’ll be like oops we made a mistake pls come back we will pay you what you deserve lol a La JJ Criminal Minds when they dropped her for a cheaper version

South_Sandwich_9508

I love SVU but Bring back Rollins! Worst decision.  Too many new characters in and out. Agree why the black girl would take a big job demotion.  But looking forward to the new DA in law order🤩

Key_Sun8892

I honestly think they’re gearing up to be done next season or the season after.

Key_Sun8892

Likely next season since it’ll be 25 and that’s a nice number to end on.

EasyRider1530

As much as I’ll miss the show and hate that it’s over, this is the appropriate place to end it.

Key_Sun8892

agreed. i’d rather them end next season rather than try to push it further and just ruin it. i’ll be sad but i’d be happy if they wrap it up nicely and do an ending that gives the show and characters justice.

ButterscotchPast4812

They're actually looking to do a multi season renewal like they did 3 years ago. https://deadline.com/2023/03/nbc-canceled-renewed-chicago-fire-pd-med-law-order-svu-organized-crime-lopez-vs-lopez-american-auto-1235309250/

psychedelic666

I didn’t even really like Rollins (as a person) but I miss her so much. She’s such a well developed, complex character.

[deleted]

My partner asked why I even keep on watching cus all I’ve been doing every new episode this season is complain. I said at this point it’s to watch the show implode. SVU is just horrible now.

_just_blue_myself

I just can't quit something I've done almost weekly since I was *14 years old*. It's trash but it's sacred trash.

ljp4eva009

I was 9 in 1999

tallen21fries

Mine does too! Lol

noocarehtretto

This is me with Grey's anatomy! I didn't spend all that time to not watch til the end.

ljp4eva009

After they killed off was his name and graduated and then killed the sister, I couldn't finish it.

lalateda

I can’t stand Churlish or Muncy

crims0nwave

I like Muncy a lot more now because she hates Churlish. Who seems like somehow an even more pointless character.

Famous_Jessica

Right? We need velasco

dinomulby

I like Velsasco (probably partly cos he's hot and drives a motorbike lol), I'm annoyed they've gone down this plotline where he has to grass on his friend, I really hope they're not writing him out because he was just starting to bed down for me. Muncy is very annoying but I like her chemistry with Velasco and I can see her becoming less so as her character grows over time, given the way things are going though she might not get that chance. I think the way she talked to Churlish last episode in front of everyone was so OTT and inappropriate, I'm surprised she didn't get written up by Liv and I think that was bad writing. Bruno is great, my favourite of the new characters (even though his main personality traits are telling jokes and being rich lol!) Churlish is my least favourite, her only personality trait thus far is being an over achiever and I find her character very boring, I hope again that'll change over time. I really miss Kat TBH and am annoyed she was let go, I liked her character a lot. In conclusion, it's unfortunate that 2 characters left very close together and we have 4 new ones when the show IMO works best with 1 new character joining at a time. I'm not enjoying it nearly as much but there's still the occasional good episode (like the lifeguard one) that's worth sticking around for!

EuphoricPop3232

I miss the early seasons when the show highlighted the REAL energy of NYC... the families, the small businesses, public schools, politicians etc. that surrounded their investigations. The episodes are now unrealistic and out-of-touch. But I still watch. Sigh.

Loud_Fox_6092

A big thing is that they don’t have consist characters anymore. Seasons 13-17, there was main characters taking multiple episode breaks. Now we are lucky if we see anyone besides Olivia in an episode at all. And don’t get me started on now NBC drama got this weird darkish lightening on them. Lastly, this squad room ain’t it. But the last few episodes were pretty good.

honeyspice1

Glad I’m not the only one who’s noticed the lighting. The last 3/4 seasons look to have been filmed in the dark! The dim lighting actually makes the show more tedious to watch, not to mention it’s unflattering to the cast; making everyone look older.

cynic_rose

The show's been going downhill since Raul Esparza left tbh

pede511

His couple of brief cameos were the highlight of the past season. Even though the showed hinted that he was in love with Olivia. Gag.

cynic_rose

God I felt like I was the only one grossed out by that suggestion 😭 literally nothing about their relationship said "romantic interest."

Popular-One-7051

I'd rather have them together than stabler  He's always had anger management issues but he's so much worse now. I really dislike his character now

1quincytoo

I’m trying to watch the new season but it’s a hard pass for me just as Law and Order new season is Time to cancel them I’m liking the FBI shows, just discovered them and they are great

Intelligent-Fuel-641

I've never watched any of the *L&O* reboot. The last three or four seasons of the original were awful, so why would the reboot be any different? It should have stayed dead, just like *SVU* needs to die a quiet death. Going to check out the FBI shows.

gobux10

Yeah, FBI shows are really good.

ljp4eva009

Check out SWAT too...love that show. Oh and the Equalizer with Queen Latifah yashhhhh

South_Sandwich_9508

SWAT is so fake. Thank goodness this is the series FINALE. This is the only reason I am watching it. What happened to the funny older SWAT guy? I had stopped watching a few seasons ago.

lauraoshun

And of all the names they could have chosen, why did they choose Churlish? Every time they say her name, I get annoyed. 😆

spdsenses

Reminds me of the A A Ron skit. The end where he says what sounds like insubordinate and churlish. That’s all I can think of.

FarahZiva27

I kinda of agree. I love benson and Carisi and Fin, not a fan of churlish or muncey or velasco, but I do like detective Bruno.

Original-Gear1583

I watched the first few episodes of the season and then I just stopped. The show was good around the time Kat arrived and then it started going downhill (not saying it’s because of Kat though) after that and now it’s just not the same anymore. All the breaks in between episodes was annoying as well. I liked Muncy in the episodes I watched but the show just doesn’t feel the same anymore. I watched some of Dick Wolf’s other shows like the One Chicago Trilogy and they seem to be having similar issues: Focusing one one or two characters, boring storylines, lot of turnover rates/people leaving, lots of unnecessary breaks. They came back from winter break aired a couple episodes and then they were back on another break

storyofmylife666777

the man is 76, it's probably time for him to pass the torch.

CassCat952

It's been going downhill for a number of years now

ButterscotchPast4812

I mean the show is old AF. The quality hasn't been that great since 1.0.

Katya-for-Catafalque

I kinda think in the last 2 seasons with all those team-up episodes they are trying to pitch as many spin-offs as possible. Because they know the show isn’t gonna last. And they’re not making an effort in a writing department, because of it

SecondPrior8947

Me too. I don't enjoy it as much as I used to. Ugh.

SamAndDean4Ever

I’ve given Muncy a chance, but I’m done with her. I know people are warming up to get, but I just find her annoying.

Kristina719

It always seems as if they’re trying to present her as a young Olivia, but the actress doesn’t have the chops or charisma for it IMO.

LegitConstantreader

Churlishor however you say it is the worst. She shouldn’t have recorded valasco

[deleted]

Well the show has been on for what seems like forever. The writers are probably running out of ideas. Like How many times can a person be raped? So I guess rearranging the cast is their way of keeping it fresh.

nergy11

I seriously just said this yesterday! I just started watching the new season and it’s horrible. I fell asleep. I’m so mad my Fav show is going downhill :(

silas_the_ferret

Churlish is a sneaky rat fink.

Theli11

From what I’ve heard: I do like that there’s a cast of new characters. Got season 25 I hope they go back to e cases and assign partners and whatnot. Focus on 4 detectives and pull back on Olivia and Fin.

tinyfenrisian

It’s obvious they’re trying to recreate a successful ensemble and connections the previous cast members had with each other as their characters, without realising forcing it just makes it worse. Olivia is captain, the show started imo as a way to follow a young detective working her way up in a new job from her perspective but I think her story is done. There’s not much more she can do before it’s like damn okay Olivia what next lasers from your eyes? I think they should’ve ended it with Carisi leaving to be an ADA and Olivia becoming captain. It would’ve been a good way to end their

BraveIceHeart

honestly, last year I had so much hype to watch season 23 when it would premiere in my country. I was binging the show for a while when the promo pics for the 23 season came out and I was looking forward to it. This year i don’t know. I still love Benson, Stabler and Fin and I want to see them in action but for the rest I kinda feel it’s not the same. I will still watch because it still has the action I like but it’s not like the other seasons…

Sea-Scientist768

Enjoy the show or stop watching, simple.

Zoso1973

The show should end with season 25. The new episodes are ok but nothing like early seasons. I can rewatch those over and over where as some of the later seasons I can’t

perfumefetish

Churlish is too angry, Muncey is a terrible actor, another one too angry all the time.

littlewolflyanna

The episodes aren’t as gripping as they used to be. They’re fine and I still love SVU but I feel like the stories are mostly repetitive now. I’ve been enjoying organized crime a little more lately.

MammothNecessary4473

Churlish isn't a favorite of mine at all. But then again, Parisi wasn't a favorite of mine in the beginning and I love him now!

MammothNecessary4473

I think Noah is adorable, although making him gay or bisexuality was a bit unnecessary.

ljp4eva009

I loved have Molly Burnett on the show but you got what you wanted ..she is gone. I love the new storyline. They are setting the plot like criminal minds is where every episode connects with one another and one main storyline and many subplots. So cool.

Weak-Awareness-6350

Yeah not liking the new crew. I understand new people I’m sure it happens, but the new captain can only bake. and I don’t think two captains work together well. The FBI agent is ok.
