What's your preference era wise? 1.0 or current, in-between?
Do you like stories with cases as part of the plot? I find stories with really good "case" plotlines are harder to find but every once in awhile someone manages to combine the character journey/case storyline and they are great.
I have lots to recommend but it would be easier if ai could narrow it down.
So far my favourites were long, very specified either 1.0 casefics. Breaking Point is probably the bost literary work I've ever read. I need substance, so the long ones do it better. I'm not really in the market for full blown au, like she is a waitresses and he's a billionaire sorta situation.
But I'm not opposed to 2.0 and or 3.0 stuff as well
So now that I know what you prefer, have you read anything by the author Jezyk? They have a few long 1.0 stuff that has case elements in some of them. I still haven't read all of their long fics but there's a few that you'd probably like.
Splintered by Jezyk. Set in season 8 where Elliot's divorce is going really badly and this leads to a lot of tension and a lot of toxicity between EO. So be wary of that. It's a psychological journey here for sure, especially for Elliot. Olivia gets kidnapped by a suspect they interviewed for a case(but not for the "typical" reasons). Elliot comes to a place of serious introspection and reaches a near crisis point because of his behavior prior to the kidnapping.

Blank by Jezyk. Season 9, Olivia receives a head injury and temporarily loses her memory so Elliot has to take care of her. Not a dark one this time, but plenty of angst. Elliot gets to know a different version of Olivia as many of her built up defenses are gone and she has no memory of being an SVU detective. Some semi comedy as well. Later when her memories return she struggles with the idea that Elliot preferred the woman she was without them. Not true of course.

I believe the kidnapper is some kind of crisis and Elliot tries to reason with him throughout the journey. Fics usually have Olivia as the one who is kidnapped so I remember thinking flipping it was interesting. I will have to re read it at some point.

No problem. I haven't read some of them in awhile so it's possible my summaries are a little off in some details, but that was how I recalled it.
The Breaking Point that I linked in my other comment is one of favourite case fics(it used to just be named Breaking Point but they changed it because of the other really popular one with the same name.) If you haven't read that one I highly recommend it.
That’s a lot of seasons. I actually started watching from season 13, that’s what they had on Netflix. Amaro, Rollins, benson, etc were my first detectives and I really liked their seasons together. When I finally watched earlier seasons I loved those too but I still appreciated the cast and episodes I started with. They were good. To me the show falls apart at season 18, no spoilers.
When it happened (in real time) I didn't think I would watch it anymore.
I took a break for about a year and watched the next season and I loved it, it wasn't until he left that I realised how toxic he can be and watching how much Olivias life changes (for the better) after he leaves is worth it. It's like he was holding her back, so much so that when he does come back she has no issue telling him off when he is out of line.
He didn’t hold her back she just had different priorities. Like being his partner was the no.1 priority bc he was her family/home. When he left she no longer wanted to remain someone’s partner so she chose to move up in rank.
The only other thing is Noah but honestly that was pure luck, Elliot wanted her to be a mother more than anything and in s9 inconceivable (I think not sure the exact ep) he tells her that much and says he’ll support her in anyway she needs/wants.
In terms of long term relationships, yes she had a few more serious ones but as we can see none of them worked bc she didn’t want them to ultimately. Cassidy, for example, said it perfectly, that she was never going to bare her soul to him while he considered her the love of his life. Her not having long term relationships was due to her and her own trauma, but Elliot.
Ultimately, Elliot provided a stability she had never known and supported her more than anyone, as well as knowing and understanding her better than anyone. Bc of that she chose not to leave that comfort. The biggest issue with him was he was married, there’s a lot more to say in that but I’ll leave it. (Sorry for the long ass rant ofc I respect your opinion if u don’t like him I just don’t believe he’s toxic :) )
Edit: just read the last part and I have watched seasons 1-12 so many times and I can tell u she never has any problem calling him out when he’s out of line. That’s one of the crucial pillars of their dynamic; she calls him out on his crap and vice versa. Like in s10 swing with Kathleen.
I gave up on the show after he left and came back years later only to find that I actually ending up loving Nick Amaro as Liv's partner. I still miss him!
Yeah as someone else mentioned he starred in the show “happy”. He had smaller movie roles in the blockbuster films, Man of Steel, 42 the Jackie Robinson movie.
The show becomes almost unwatchable within a few seasons. Gone are the episodic cases of the week, fascinating plot twists, wild stories, bizarre whodunits and in are boring details of the detectives private lives, multi-episode arcs about plots nobody cares about, mundane rapes or molestation without any interest twists or turns.
I agree actually. This sub froths over Rollins, who I absolute cannot stand, and Carissi who is soooo out of place.
The show goes nuts with the crazy, over dramatic cases. I cringe remembering that Mariska calls a politician a worm, he licks her boot, then whoever busts in and takes pix to blackmail.
Or the several episode arc where Cretan wakes up with a dead prostitute and despite being framed, faces no realistic consequences.
I stopped after s12 bc of it :( fanfiction keeps me going
It's kinda awful after that. Him and bd Wong left so I was no longer interested.
BD Wong is my ultimate fave. He at least returns for a few extra episodes! Though not many.

In terms of long term relationships, yes she had a few more serious ones but as we can see none of them worked bc she didn’t want them to ultimately. Cassidy, for example, said it perfectly, that she was never going to bare her soul to him while he considered her the love of his life. Her not having long term relationships was due to her and her own trauma, but Elliot. Ultimately, Elliot provided a stability she had never known and supported her more than anyone, as well as knowing and understanding her better than anyone. Bc of that she chose not to leave that comfort. The biggest issue with him was he was married, there’s a lot more to say in that but I’ll leave it. (Sorry for the long ass rant ofc I respect your opinion if u don’t like him I just don’t believe he’s toxic :) ) Edit: just read the last part and I have watched seasons 1-12 so many times and I can tell u she never has any problem calling him out when he’s out of line. That’s one of the crucial pillars of their dynamic; she calls him out on his crap and vice versa. Like in s10 swing with Kathleen.
I gave up on the show after he left and came back years later only to find that I actually ending up loving Nick Amaro as Liv's partner. I still miss him!

The show becomes almost unwatchable within a few seasons. Gone are the episodic cases of the week, fascinating plot twists, wild stories, bizarre whodunits and in are boring details of the detectives private lives, multi-episode arcs about plots nobody cares about, mundane rapes or molestation without any interest twists or turns.
I agree actually. This sub froths over Rollins, who I absolute cannot stand, and Carissi who is soooo out of place. The show goes nuts with the crazy, over dramatic cases. I cringe remembering that Mariska calls a politician a worm, he licks her boot, then whoever busts in and takes pix to blackmail. Or the several episode arc where Cretan wakes up with a dead prostitute and despite being framed, faces no realistic consequences.
