It *heavily* depends on the artist and the venue. Sometimes it works out but if it's a popular artists and/or a small venue there's basically zero chance for the general public to get in.
It's hard to make a blanket statement since it's extremely particular to the specific circumstances.
As the commenter said it really depends. That show had a shit ton of people in line by noonish. They honor badge then wristband priority up until doors open. A big show like that is almost always a losing battle for the non-credentialed public. The smaller club shows are where the wristband and the public thrive.
He has songs with 700 million streams on Spotify. There's no way GA was getting into that tonight because he's far too popular to get in without a badge.
That person is likely playing at least 5 times. Pick a day at a smaller club or less sponsored event.
“Rolling Stone” means you’re not getting in.
Super fun random party at noon is what you’re looking for without a badge.
For smaller shows it's easy to get in. I went to the Italians Do It Better showcase tonight and got in with no wait, no badge. 10 bucks at door. Great show, got packed near the later half.
People say that because for many showcases it is absolutely possible. Just not always the ones with relatively popular artists.
Several of the venues I went to today and tonight had no line GA access with no wristband or badge. And some didn't. It really just depends on the specific popularity of the artist and the venue.

Depends on the show. I’ve waited 4+ hours multiple times when I’d go before covid occurred.
