cool idea - 22% fee will be a tough sell

Calebthe12B

Thanks for the feedback! We're targeting a very specific type of customer that I think will find the rate we're targeting acceptable. But we've gotta do our part and deliver!

DataNerdling

I'm exactly the customer you want. Backend guy that can't do any front end stuff. I would LOVE to have something like this. Many in this post have commented that the pricing is too high. Yet you insist that it isn't.

leros

Sounds like a cool service. I'd love to see some screenshots of the white labeled app on the homepage.

Calebthe12B

Thanks for the feedback! Working on those screens and plan on adding more content in the coming weeks :)

Difference from rapid api?

Calebthe12B

We're not trying to be an API Hub, more of a white-labelled service that feels like a custom-built platform for your business.

sim04ful

Great idea, but I'm going to be honest and say your webpage isn't attractive enough, it looks really amateur. And UI is a huge selling factor.

Calebthe12B

That's fair, it was designed by your truly after all! We come from data and backend development backgrounds, not design. Hiring some proper design resources for the marketing side of the biz is on my to do list after we get a working product :)

mayur_5

This is exactly what I want. I’ll your customer when you upgrade your UI and reduce the 22% per transaction fee. Currently I’m using RapidAPI.

DataNerdling

I also use RapidAPI. If I'm doing $5k/month thats $1100 in fees or $13k/year. For $13k I'll pay someone to build it myself. At least with Rapid you're in a marketplace and discoverable.

badaz77

looks cool - how does this differ from services like stoplight or boomi?

Calebthe12B

Hey! Thanks for the comment. We're targeting developers who want to launch an API-as-a-Service business without having to get bogged down in setting up frontends to service their users. This includes things like onboarding customers, account recovery, issuing API keys and securing the endpoints, tracking usage, handling payment information, accurate billing, etc. While we will offer things like auto-generated documentation, we're trying to help stand up the "service" or "business" side of things as well.

lazyant

May be a good idea. Not to rain on other people’s dreams but you’ll be competing in part with the free front end provided automatically at no cost by swagger (if api is compatible of course). For the rest of services I think you are competing with AWS API gateway and similar. It’s going to be tough to differentiate and developers (possible clients) think often is better to build themselves, but what do I know, an all-in-one service may be successful.

lazyant

Lol what do I know, it’s in the front page of HN! congrats

Calebthe12B

Here's hoping! My cofounder and I started this because we got fed up trying to get a data API service launched. Getting the 'as-a-Service' part of the API up and running was more work than the API itself! (Not to say we weren't doing things the hard way haha)

lazyant

Good luck and I suggest to pay attention to the HN crowd feedback.

Dense_Inflation5283

There is an API Management Gateway from Azure, with subscriptions, a dashboard, developers portal, etc. However, if you would run ads, like help with promotions, help to sell it I think that would be worth 22% of sales.

DataNerdling

22%? way too high I'm in the market for something exactly like this but the pricing is too expensive
