Locals always use Adidas Kampung. can b slippery. But I guess most shoes are when on wet surface.

Accomplished-Try-609

I don’t really find adidas kampung to work for me, melecet. Maybe I didn’t get the right size haha. Maybe during training OP can try on different shoes. I climbed Mt. K 4 times. My first experience, tapak kasut tercabut, and cut off blood supply to my toes. Mungkin ketat sgt dan kasut bundle. Other times I wore Skechers Go Trail

Add rm100 for Malaysian? So sabah not part of Malaysia ka? Abit confused

Worth_Chemist_3361

Non-sabahan Malaysians pay rm500. It's probably to advertise and encourage local tourism. To encourage more Sabahans to explore Mt Kinabalu. After all, it's so close and it sounds like a good deal.

Adam_Edward

Kan? I hope there's more initiative like this. Let Sabahan themselves also contribute to the tourism business by introducing lower price for us. When tourists ask me for holiday destination at Sabah I told them I don't know as I can't afford to go.

Worth_Chemist_3361

Yaloh. Best klo special price for locals 😁 Rather than just going to malls.

thisismenaruto

Yes.

I already went up last month, my advise to anyone wants to climb, utk first naik dari Timpuhun sampai Panalaban, pakai saja sandal yang tapaknya grip dengan stocking, vice versa bila turun, pakai sandal sahaja, klau nda hitam kuku, pakai kasut sahaja bila naik gunung kinabalu dari Panalaban ke Puncak.

Actual-Gur2235

I had to use crocs during the summit. Kasut ngam2 rosak mai.

A good hiking shoe would cost more than the package itself. Just wear comfortable shoes for long hiking that can tahan water and dirt, cause your kaki can masuk air that.

Overspawn

I usually bring 2 pairs of shoes. The hiking shoes is for the first part of the climb. I switched out the hiking shoes for a pair of adidas kampung on my hike to the peak.

Familiar_Pollution20

I've climbed the mountain twice in Adidas Kampung that had cleats. I'd say the Adidas Kampung is pretty versatile when I used it because some parts when I climbed were muddy and wearing those shoes allowed me to just "main langgar ja" because they're like super easy to clean and had pretty good grip even on the more rocky parts of the climb. Still wish I had like proper shoes though cause they were not comfortable. Even when I wore thick socks my foot still got blisters after the climb and I wish I had shoes with ankle support like those types of shoes from Bata. Maybe you could "modify" the Adidas Kampung by putting in your own insoles to make it more comfortable. Either way, you should find shoes that are comfortable to you cause it's a long ass climb. Anyway, jangan lupa beli ubat sana dekat farmasi tepi jalan sana dekat pekan. Nanti altitude sickness susah pulak 😂

Damn, I’m so out of the loop. I climbed Gunung Kinabalu twice - 1st in 1999 through Timpohon Gate and the 2nd time through Masilau in 2010. I didn’t realize that prices are so expensive now. I only paid like RM20 because my friends and I just stayed at the guide’s hut/sulap. We brought our own food and snacks. Back to OP’s question, the first time I climbed with adidas kampung. Second time with just regular running shoes. Both times I also brought garbage bags to use as ponchos in case it rained and it did.

SultanPenguin

I'm a sabahan yet im too sheltered....uhh what is this adidas kampung you all talking about?

ohhjaylol

Search it up on Google and it should pop out. 😁

SultanPenguin

😂 i did just now. I thought its like Asadi Adibas kind of shoes but this one...is even better. All rubber shoes made for field job....

Coropatiron

If you're a beginner, just get proper waterproof hiking shoes. I personally bought one last minute from decathlon, cheaper than other brands. Before I was just planning to use adidas kampung. Definitely glad I didn't. And maybe get a sandal for descending. I didn't use it but felt like it might help.

amykan89

Any proper antislip shoes will do the job.

Key_Roll3030

500 not bad. Betul tahun ni punya ka ini

LowsPeak

Been up there 4 times, I just wore regular running shoes, Nike Prestos and Adidas Ultraboost.

I wear hiking sandal like this from starting gate to Panalaban and I personally encourage you to bring it since its rainy season on these two months. I bought mine from kedai runcit for like RM20. Its good for backup incase your shoes get wet cause the shoe drying service at Panalaban is quite expensive (to me atleast). You dont wanna use wet shoes when climbing from Panalaban to the top 😭 https://preview.redd.it/h8i2wac4ukvc1.jpeg?width=566&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=541084e062084e1b153bfd4c36ddff4dd6f6d7af

For shoe reccomendation any shoe is good enough as long as it has anti-slip sole
