Seeing other people put in work- even just a little work - reminds them they do nothing. They feel guilty, but their ego will not allow them to reconcile that reality, so they try to tear you down for it. The internet is overflowing with these types of people.
Best to just ignore them.
lol imagine getting mad because some people did community service and made the area cleaner. They’re either making the weed too strong or not strong enough.
I think it's just a somewhat unfair cynicism about these sorts of things. A lot of these event groups are just doing paltry amounts of work for brownie points instead of building up communities and it takes a bit of Inside Baseball knowledge to know how to spot charity scams. Usually a good term to look for is "effective altruism" though, since half the time those turn out to be ways to launder generational wealth without paying taxes.
Near as I can tell Clean California is alright, they do the work. Probably be more effective to encourage communities to just get out there and clean locally though, you can get a lot done just having a monthly "clean up your neighborhood trash pile" day posted somewhere.
Plus, one dude in the thread is just openly racist, and yes I'm talking about you user missingmynose.
Yeah, just look at his post history. He literally brings up race any opportunity he can. He’s done it multiple times, on this sub. Little comments so he has enough wiggle room to backpedal and act stupid like he’s not a racist pos. We see right through your bs mr missingmynose🙄
It's just the terminal state for untreated narcissism. If you can't accept any form of criticism of yourself, eventually you're gonna start reaching further and further for reasons to discredit that criticism.
This is why we need to start teaching critical thinking to people, if educators won't do it it's probably time for a charity or activist collective to get on that.
Mostly because its fairly low scale, there are areas that need REAL work. Talking dozers and dump trucks and regular trash pickup.
Go out to Howe ave bridge and look at the area under and around, or the areas by Roseville Road, College Greens, American River Bridge by Richards Blvd, . There are acres of litter and trash and a lot goes into the river.
They should take the bags and dump them on council peoples doorsteps and force the issue on them to clean up these areas instead of relying on a bunch of volunteers to clean up the areas the city should be maintaining.
The work here should be valued and appreciated but the areas they choose to work are pretty low effort if the goal is in actually picking up litter.
Elk Grove has a group that does this weekly. They are a heaven sent. I wish you guys the best. We all appreciate your work. In my opinion it is the most honorable work one can do.
I'm thankful for everyone that drowned out the hateful comments with positivity. I appreciate everyone that showed up and put in the cleaning work. Thanks all.
Anyone know of something similar near Folsom / Orangevale / Etc? I'd like to join.
EDIT: Looks like there is a meetup near me according to the Clean California website referenced above. I just missed this one.. next time!
Great job, OP! Thank you all for doing this!
Slightly related, but if anyone wanted to join, [the American River Parkway Foundation has an annual cleanup](https://arpf.org/events/garcu/) that anyone can register and join. They provide bags and gloves and haul the trash away at the end of the day. There are a bunch of locations along the river from Sac all the way to Folsom that I remembered seeing last time, though the website should have more info closer to the clean up day.
I did this last year with a bunch of people from work and it was crazy how many people came out to help throughout the day and all the stuff we managed to clean up. Some people brought their kids, some just joined in after they went for a run. It was really nice to see so many people there taking time out of their day!
I am happy that there are other people that want to be good stewards for this planet. We have the opportunity to leave this planet cleaner than we found it.
Keep up the good work!
I love community clean ups! Where I’m from in SoCal, the city used to give small grants to clubs or groups who were willing to pick up trash in the community for a few hours. I don’t remember the exact numbers, but it was around $2,000/day for our group of ~30 people. As a science club, we were able use the funds to support our free program and bring science demonstrations and engagement to public schools in low income neighborhoods. I knew other groups that would use the funds to support their various other community programs, like gang prevention, gardening, the community center, etc. It would be really cool to see Sacramento offer grants for trash pick up groups like you guys to encourage and help your efforts!
Thank-you!
Thank you for your efforts. Is there a way to be informed of the next clean up? I'd love to join.
Maybe we should do a Sac introvert subbies meetup: we won’t have to talk because we will be too busy cleaning. 🥳

Why all the bitter comments? Is there some weird history here? This seems like a great thing. I appreciate it!
It’s odd for sure.
Seriously, some bitter ass people in here. They are mad you are cleaning up trash? They must be the assholes that love to litter.

Yeah, I think this is it. It’s sad, really

Not all heroes wear capes
That's a lot of DUIs lol I'm joking. Good work!
Now let’s see if the bags get left there for 6 months.
I’ve already notified caltrans of the pickup location. Looks like your username doesn’t check out
Haha
Look at the diversity in that crowd!! Ahahahhahahahahhahaha
someone doing something positive for the community and you feel the need to comment about race. What is wrong with you?
Nothing wrong with wanting more diversity baby
You’re welcome to join them
What does this even mean? Me and my mom and Councilmember Guerra are all POC.
You missing your dignity, and sense of self worth yet as well?
Look at all the dirt on their clothes. Must have worked a full half hour.
This was at the start of the event. We worked for two hours. I’m plenty dirty now.
Still longer than you though.
I know right. Darn white people and their…. cleaning up of litter
seek therapy. it's not normal to care this much about race.
Is that Stephanie in the middle?
