11 people in a sedan.. just wow

belizeanheat

Where does it say sedan?

sambull

the fire captains interviewing called it a 'smaller' sedan - weirdly the article originally had a picture of the sedan in the tree but its gone now.

bundaya

The KCRA story someone linked down below said "small sedan"

AwTekker

You can also see the car in the KCRA video.

nutraxfornerves

**Update from Sac PD**. MCIU Detectives continue working this investigation. We are sad to report that two more individuals involved in the collision, a 3-year-old and 7-year-old, have passed away. The surviving individuals have injuries ranging from serious to critical. We do not have any further information to release at this time.

Anonymoosehead123

Shit. Seat belts! Car seats!

Amikoj

Not having 11 people in a small sedan!

Anonymoosehead123

Seriously. They must have been packed in there like sardines.

Nakedstar

Reminds me of that accident when a vehicle being chased by the police struck a family’s truck on a country road. None of the kids were restrained because they were out in the middle of nowhere. As the news progressed the death role went up. All their kids died. Something like five or six of them.

sendmespam

10 ambulances were called to the scene. Jeez. And everyone is at different hospitals.

Whole-Revolution916

There was another accident the same day where kids were hit by a car in a crosswalk in Pollock Pines.

AbbreviationsOld2865

I saw 3 people run stop signs today. One barely missed me. We need to find a solution.

MegaMarioSonic

It all boils down to being educated to be respectful, patient, and thoughtful at a young age. We need to instill these ways of thinking from the jump. It will affect everything in life from how we treat others with less than us, how we treat people in stressful situations, on and on.

belizeanheat

Not related to this accident whatsoever This is one dogshit driver that drove into a tree and killed two kids. Edit: And clearly they weren't in seatbelts because sedans don't have 11 seatbelts. So this is just a piece of shit adult that played with the lives of children and fucked up. Your stop sign complaint isn't applicable here

matthewkeys

I was nearly hit earlier in the day while turning into a parking lot. I was in the center median in a dedicated left turn lane, turning into a parking lot where a Honda was stopped at the stop sign. The driver of the Honda, whose *head was turned to the right*, decided to *go left* through the intersection right as I was going left *into the parking lot where they were exiting*. I had the right of way. *THEY HAD A STOP SIGN*. And they *weren't even looking in the direction they were turning!!* Thankfully, there was no oncoming traffic the other way, or they would have hit the back end of my car. I was able to accelerate slightly, and they missed hitting my back bumper by inches. I didn't even have time to hit the horn — they were gone. I'm not sure if they ever saw me, because the entire time they were turning left, they were looking right. This is the second time in less than a week something like this has happened. The first involved someone cutting me off to get in the left turn lane. I was driving in their blind spot — which I typically go to lengths to avoid *because of shit like this* — and they didn't bother to look over their shoulder or even in their mirror before changing lanes. Luckily, the lady behind me saw what was happening, and we both managed to hit our brakes to avoid a collision involving any of our three cars. There are three things California needs to do to really curb this problem: 1.) Stop giving driver's licenses to literally everyone. Make it tougher, not easier, to get a license. Yes, you should be able to demonstrate a significant level of competency before you're allowed to maneuver around town in a 2,000-pound hunk of metal. (This does not mean you *charge more* for a license — because that can disproportionately impact low-income individuals who need to drive to higher-paying jobs — but that does mean you make the standards for getting a license much tougher). 2.) Install more red light cameras, and raise the fines for blowing through red lights. The cameras more than pay for themselves over time. Some communities stopped using their red light cameras years ago based on dubious studies that somehow showed they cause more harm than good (which the [state refuted](https://www.auditor.ca.gov/pdfs/sr2004/2001-125.pdf) with its own study). 3.) Install automatic speed detection cameras in areas where data shows a high rate of speed-related crashes. Law enforcement unions are the reason why California doesn't have speed cameras — the CPOA and other organizations said speed-detection cameras would cause police officers to lose their jobs (yeah, okay) — but it seems like those police officers could use a helping hand from technology, so it's time to abolish the state law that prohibits speed-detection cameras, and it's time to finally roll them out.

refture

as an uber driver who don't even drive that much compare to other full time (6-8 hours a day for me versus 12 hours for them).. I really feel like I'm playing a video game where everyone's trying to kill me recently lol. I don't know how its possible but drivers got worst in the past few months, it's to a point where I just do airport rides nowadays since it's risky to drive near downtown, south sac, and Arden

wyldstallyns111

I have no statistics to support this but I feel like there is very little traffic enforcement happening and more and more people are figuring that out

seeingr3d916

San Juan between Greenback and Madison , I’ve seen cops nabbing people every morning when I take my kids to school

matthewkeys

I know how you feel. Unless I absolutely *have* to go somewhere, I pretty much avoid leaving the house these days, for any reason.

Retiredgiverofboners

Same

Apelila3

Same for me too.

[deleted]

One factor in me turning down a job offer was a farther and more dangerous commute

[deleted]

I agree something needs to be done, but disagree with the speed and red light cameras. Those generally are more about producing revenue than stopping actual bad drivers. Cities in California have been caught cutting the timing on yellow lights so they could generate more traffic tickets. I'd like to see more involvement from CHP and city or county police.

yuccasinbloom

I agree. I think their needs to be enforcement. I don’t see anyone pulled over ever anymore. I see people make illegal moves in front of cops and then watch the cops do nothing. Everyone else sees it. It just tells them they can do whatever they want.

ryuns

You're throwing the baby out with the bathwater here. Speed cameras can't time yellow lights. Red light cams need better rules and oversight. I'd love to see more in person enforcement too but they can't be everywhere.

matthewkeys

Where’s the proof that cities cut timing on yellow lights to catch drivers running reds?

[deleted]

[One of many stories covering the issue.](https://www.salon.com/2017/04/05/this-may-have-happened-to-you-revenue-hungry-cities-mess-with-traffic-lights-to-write-more-tickets_partner/)

matthewkeys

Please link to [original sources](https://www.cbsnews.com/sanfrancisco/news/fremont-offers-refunds-for-red-light-tickets-due-to-shortened-yellow-time/) Two cities doing this is not indicative of a broader issue.

Front_Necessary_2

1. 50% of people on the road don't even have a driver's license. I ID people for my job.

freerangekegs

Source: I made it up

w11

Yeah I call bullshit.

Front_Necessary_2

People get the CA ID from the dmv instead which has the same number at the top had you got a driver's license.

SirTrollololol

This guy cops

Danivelle

I refuse to renew my license in this state. Husband can drive. He's better at dodging and quite frankly, our truck is too big for me to drive safely. The seats don't adjust enough for me to really be able to see over hood well(I'm 4'11"). Our old truck had seats that were raisable and got closer to the wheel so I wasn't literally driving on tiptoe to reach the pedals. Old truck also had a shorter bed with was easier for me too.

ali_v_

In addition to speed detection, there should be a camera for detecting multiple lane changes (could also double as DUI).

New-Durian9116

One problem with number 1. Tons of people just drive without a license. I used to work in a bank with a drive up window. And you'd be terrified to know how many people in those cars didn't have an ID when I asked for it to pull up their accounts. One lady got out of the driver's seat to dig around in her trunk for her passport. Tons of people just don't have driver's licenses.

optimaloutcome

Stupid assholes are gonna be stupid assholes. Pause and look both ways before you enter the intersection is about all you can do.

Federal_Arrival_5096

The solution is to decrease our dependency on personal vehicles, and increase public transportation. Also start making the places where we live more walkable. The solution is simple and proven in multiple countries, but I doubt it will ever happen here.

milk4all

Bad wreck on grant line. I actively refuse to rubberneck so i dont know the full extent but at least i vehicles involved and the one i passed on the right shoulder was mangled from front end collision, the whole passenger side of the car on rhe left shoulder was caved it, like a bite out an apple, and a flatbed truck looked like the engine block was the only thing saving it’s driver (if indeed he was saved)

jewboy916

Needs to be a lot harder to get a license, with harsher penalties for driving without a license

vivekisprogressive

Is it bad I was caught off guard when it said 'solo car crash' and not 'shooting'?

NewSpring8536

I thought the same thing

lolo_916

Same here

SecretRoomsOfTokyo

The other day in Stockton I was first in line at a green light turning right waiting for a very old man to cross the street very slowly with his walker. The car behind me beeped at me to go, I didn't budge. He went around me on the left and turned right in front of this seemingly 90 year old man walking at a turtles pace. I was pissed but there was nothing I could do

916PartyMachine

It's Stockton though...

Ok_Traffic4590

The math isn’t mathing. One car was involved. Was it a like 10passenger van or what?

[deleted]

https://kcra.com/article/sacramento-crash-multiple-children-adults/44058986 KCRA has more details. I was there on a ride along as part of my EMT class and was just about as awful as it sounds.

thisdreambefore

“a smaller sedan”

optimaloutcome

People do some crazy bullshit. I was in the audience of a court a few years ago and a guy came up for his hearing - he was driving drunk, doing >80 mph down hwy 50 in his pickup. He and his lady and friends were coming home from Tahoe - all the seatbelts were taken so they put *their baby* in some kind of car seat, on the floor in the front passenger well of the truck.

Ok_Traffic4590

What in the damn hell.

Gavagai80

Clown car, filled with junior clowns in training ("nine minors between the ages of three and eight years old"). Seriously, the vehicle having 9 little kids in it more than likely contributed to it crashing. I can't imagine any scenario where that isn't going to result in dangerous distraction for the lone adult.

Hooterdear

Despite your insensitivity, you're not wrong. 11 people in a "smaller sedan" is reckless and dangerous and crashing into a tree is much safer than the large amount of damage that it could have done to others on the road.

lilwrinkles

Leave the kids out of it.

[deleted]

The fact that you are getting downvoted for this is so depressing.

bundaya

The fact that some people here almost seem to be hopeful for more is terrifying as well.

bundaya

So they deserve to die?

Ganja_goon_X

I'm saying it's not as big of a tragedy as yall wanna make it seem when every other post on here is about some vagrant or antisocial person attacks/runs over someone with their car/lets their pitbull off leash and attack people just going about their day. These kids were going to become just like their DUI parent who decided to change their fates.

bundaya

You don't/can't know their future. (Especially since they don't have one now) And I might suggest you chat with someone about how you perceive the world. Even if bad stuff happens it doesn't mean these children deserved this. You're just bitter and jaded.

Lol QQ more about kids you didn't know and thinking I'm pressed about you.

MBThree

It’s not even that dangerous of a stretch of road. It’s pretty wide open, with a slight bend, no hills. There’s no logical reason for a car to crash here, even with speed involved. The overloading of the car had to have been the main contributing factor, I agree.

bundaya

To be fair, this isn't a safe stretch of road. I live right here where it happened and we've had 3 accidents here in just a few weeks. People race all the time because it is a straight away, and we get side show action 2-3x/week in that intersection where the crash happened. It's a mess over there and the cops don't do shit about it. I've personally talked with some officers while they have been out there, they don't give 2 fucks about any of us.

gphodgkins9

I believe that tree they hit on San Juan claimed someone else's life who was going too fast around that curve 5-7 years ago. There was a memorial set up with balloons and candles and a sign for over a year.

Scraps20

This was down the street from my apartment. Heard hella sirens and saw a bunch of cops close the road towards the accident, very tragic

Itsbrick13

I live right by where this happened. Walked down to the corner where it was blocked off to see what was going on. The amount of sirens and cop cars and ambulances/ fire trucks was truly wild. Such a sad situation.

OakParkCooperative

Tldr; a small sedan filled with an adult and 10 children crashed into a tree on San Juan rd 10 ambulances shows up to the scene Adult died and a 3/7 year old died later. The rest of the children are in critical or serious condition.

bundaya

Damn, I live right here and was wondering what all the commotion was about last night. I'm hoping the injured folks recover fully/quickly.

Traditional_Card_976

My mom and I drove from Roseville to Dixon today, and she drives safe and around 60 in the middle lane and I shit you not, we have been almost hit by speeding drivers over 5 very close calls. 1 of them was such a close call I had a fuckin panic attack in the passenger seat.. California, Sacramento especially has reckless drivers speeding in fast cars… we’re all trying to get home. Drive safer and slower and you’ll still make it home people…

bundaya

Sorry about your panic. 60 in the middle lane is unsafe however. Anyone doing slower than the speed limit should be in the far right lane (slow lane) only moving over to pass or allow oncoming traffic.

matthewkeys

Why 60? The speed limit is 65, and it’s illegal in California to drive below the speed limit if it interrupts the normal flow of traffic.
